  1. I just bought a Crossbow from black bear sporting goods, saved almost 200 bucks compared to Cabelas.  I just came in from shooting my crossbow, that thing is so much fun!  Anyways, I was completely thrilled with the service from black bear (I just ran across them from on the internet), but you might want to check there for the vests, I found this one, http://www.blackbearsportinggoods.com/Tree_Spider_Vest_Ap_2x_3x_p/ellrobtssv30ap.htm, might save you a few bucks! I guess it's time for me to step up to a lowering safety harness.
  2. Let's not even think about the possibility of hearing banjo music!
  3. Thanks for the advice guys.  I will see if he would be willing to do that.
  4. Not sure which category this falls under, but I have a pistol that I was thinking about selling. I found a crossbow on Craigslist that I want. The guy will consider trades for guns. problem is, he is in Kentucky, I'm in Tenn. Any way I could make this work, legally?
  5. The 243 he had was a youth rifle that he had outgrown pretty much. I wasn't opposed to another one, but when your 16 and youre "stepping up" from a gun you've been using since you were twelve, well I think you see where I'm going with this. We found a great buy on a Browning A-bolt 7mm08 that we've both shot, great gun! Hey, was that a remington woodmaster that you used? That's what I hunt with, I love it! Awesome rifle!
  6. It's almost time for deer plots.  I planted a small one this spring and it didn't do so hot.  The area doesn't get much sunlight is probably the issue.  I sowed some clover from the co op.  Does anyone have a good food plot for fall that doesn't need much sunlight?
  7. Looks like I'm going to go with the .308. Thanks everyone for your opinions. This should be an exciting deer hunt coming up this fall, lots of deer running around our neck of the woods.
  8. That rifle looks like a good one. I thought it came in more calibers than that??? It does, it comes in a 30-06, 270, 308, and I think one of the 7mm flavors. It's got great reviews and was one of guns @ ammo top ten deer rifles for under 500 bucks. They go for about 335 at cheaper than dirt.
  9. I am wanting to buy my 16 year old son a new deer rifle for the upcoming season.  He has outgrown his youth 243 single shot and I have a younger son who is getting into hunting that he can hand down his 243 to.  I am looking at the Ruger American rifle.  It has great reviews and comes in both the 270 and 308.  Does anyone have any knowledge of the Ruger?  My son is 5'10" and probably 175 pounds, so he's not to little for either of these rifles in my opinion.  Any thoughts?
  10. Can you explain a little more about the roasted garlic?
  11. Springfield XD40 subcompact is my carry gun. I wouldn't have anything else.
  12. I like to tell my personal story as much as I can in hopes that others will learn from my issue.  I've developed an allergy to red meat, including, beef, pork, lamb, deer, and who knows what else.  It all comes from a tick bite i got a few years ago.  It's called alpha gal allergy.  So, if you like to eat meat, avoid tick bites the best you can.   http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/20/health/meat-tick-bite-allergy
  13. Thanks for the info, I used the murphy oil, it worked really well. I need to put a picture up, I'm so tickled how this thing turned out!
  14. Hey, I could use a little advice.  I just picked up a Mosin-Nagant rifle.  I'm pretty excited about it, a neat part of history.  Anyways, I'm getting the cosmoline cleaned off, which is everywhere!  This is my first rifle with a wood stock on it.  What kind of oil is good for this?  Thanks.
  15. Hey 101, I went to wally world today to buy some of this, they don't carry HTH brand, and the brand they did carry wasn't calcium hypochlorite, it was Ditriethyl something other.  Is there any stores that may carry this brand?
  16. Well, I guess what they are saying is it will still go bang and still make holes, but it isn't designed for self defense, well, except from zombies. :stunned:
  17. Target ammo that costs a dollar more than the self defense rounds? Okay.......
  18. It looks like Gamo makes a few different kinds. What made you decide on the silent cat?
  19. I'm waiting for the homestove to come out before I make my purchase, but here's another option for charging. http://www.biolitestove.com/campstove/camp-overview/features/
  20. I recently bought a LC9 by Ruger, might be a good option.  It was the 2011 Gun of the year at guns & ammo, I think.  It has a safety, i bought the model with the built in laser.
  21. Thanks for the replies. Me and my boys went out and covered 3 different spots, I saw 2 squirrels come out of a tree, run around the tree a couple times and right back in the hole. That was it and we were near our treestand where we saw squirrels all the time deer hunting. It was pretty windy today, I wonder if that had them spooked. Anyways, we will try again. Thanks for the advice.
  22. Hey, I know this is kind of a dumb question, but hey, I'm a country boy now, but was raised a city slicker! Me and my boys went out squirrel hunting today, with no luck. Of course, back when we were deer hunting we saw six thousand squirrels. That leads me to my question. What strategy works best? Walking around just doesn't seem to do it. Should you camp out where we've seen them before? Squirrels when spooked will run down the trees, not up, correct? Thanks for any help! We were using shotguns BTW.
  23. Hey guys,   I am wanting to do a little turkey hunting this year for the first time with my son.  I wanted to get some others opinion on this gun combo.  I like Mossberg shotguns, and with this being a combo turkey/defense gun, it's almost a no brainer, but was wanting to run it by some others.  Mostly, what about the 24 inch barrel, is that adequate for turkey hunting?  Thanks for any info.   http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Mossberg-Flex-500-Turkey/Defense-Shotgun-Combo&i=710503
  24. How do you make bleach out of HTH? Thats probably a great idea, btw.
