How much trigger should a holster cover?
tt0511 replied to tt0511's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I talked to Alan Miller, the owner of Aholster. I sent him pictures and he's going to make me another holster to cover more of the trigger guard, or at least more of it. The one I got for my XDsc covers all of the trigger guard area. He sounded like a very nice fellow. I'll let you know how it goes. -
How much trigger should a holster cover?

The one I have for my XDsc covers all of the trigger guard too. It looks like they tried to keep the holster depth the same between the two different barrel lengths. I really like the one for the XD but this one doesn't seem to be fully baked IMO. Does anyone have suggestions for an easy on easy off OWB Kydex holster like the Aholster Belt Holster, or am I gonna have to go back to leather? -

I've decided to return it for a refund. I agree with you Will. It would seem like an unlikely event that it could happen. But, it only takes one weird chain of events for something bad to happen and I for one am not comfortable being the guy taking the chance. I have a Safariland paddle holster I used for an IDPA match Saturday (because the Aholster didn't get here until I was at the match, lol) so I think I'll stick with that Safariland for fun stuff and possibly go back to leather for carry. Ohhhh how I wish Milt Sparks would make their Axiom holster for more than just 1911s. -
IDPA Classifier At Gallatin Gun Club

I thought you did a really great job your first time out Kirk! The biggest thing is, you were very safe!! -
I like the kydex Aholster Belt Holster and have one for my XDsc. I recently ordered one for my new Glock 19 and got it in Saturday. I noticed that the kydex doesn't fully cover the trigger guard. I know I've seen a few holsters like this in pictures online, but it makes me a little uneasy. Is this something I should be concerned about and return the holster or is it safe?

IDPA Classifier At Gallatin Gun Club

I enjoyed coming out and meeting everyone yesterday. It was fun shooting and I hope to be back up for the November match. I'm not equipped for a 3 gun match so I'll have to sit the next match out. Can't wait to see how my score came out yesterday. -Tony -
Just wanted to give a long term review update. I didn't realize I've had the Aholster Belt Holster for a year already! Phew, time flies. A year later and there are still no signs of the rubber straps dry rotting, splitting, cracking or breaking in any way. I do believe they have stretched a tiny, tiny amount (maybe 1/16" or less) but nothing to be concerned about. I'm still happy with the Aholster and just ordered a new one for my new Glock 19. I can comfortably recommend this holster to anyone wanting a very comfortable belt holster for concealment, gaming or just range use.

I sold my 1911 this week and picked up my Gen4 Glock 19. Today I put the first 100 factory rounds through it. It ran flawlessly. I also had loaded up 20 test reloads to see how that worked out. Zero issues! My first 9mm reloads and I'm surprised I didn't have a hiccup. My recipe was as follows: 124Gr FMJ RN from Precision Delta Winchester WSP small primers 4.1Gr Titegroup OAL - 1.145 Accuracy was on par with the factory loads I shot. Since I shot at an indoor range, I didn't set up the chronograph but will do that in the near future to test the velocity on that recipe compared to factory loads.

I've been curious to know if their Level 2, 3 & 4 are taught at the indoor range or at another location with an outdoor range. I can't see doing that stuff inside with lane divisions and such but maybe that's my small thinking getting in the way.

Just curious, but why do you shoot M&P in competition and EDC the XDm? Part of the philosophy I'm narrowing down to for myself is that I want to shoot more competitions and take more training classes. Both are very fun and keep skills sharp. However, I feel like what I shoot in those capacities, with lots of rounds down range, ought to also be what I carry daily. That way, everything is uniform across the board and there are no surprises if a bad day ever presented itself and defense was necessary.

My sister-in-law was at the house today and she brought her M&P9. She uses the medium back strap (wow, I must really have small hands, lol). It didn't feel as bad as the one in the store to me so I'm wondering if the large was actually installed on the one in the store. I should probably really find out and then rent both guns and shoot them side by side to get the one I most favor. The M&P does point awfully nice. Of course, I'm coming from 1911 and XD world so that makes sense.
-
Ha ha. There's just something about the way the M&P looks when I'm looking down the slide through the sights. I like that a lot. I do like that the Glock is simpler, has less parts and has a much longer proven track record. I've pretty well decided I'm going with the Glock 19 unless I were to find out the backstrap was mixed up. That would make it more difficult choice.

I was in a gun shop this week comparing some firearms. I compared the XD9, Xdm 9, Glock 19 and M&P9. I was pre-set on the XDm since I have the XD9sc and love it. I was really disappointed to find that I really didn't like the XDm like I thought I would. I like XD better than XDm related to the grip. I was super surprised to find that I much preferred the Glock 19 and Glock 30. I've not been a Glock guy, I've been a 1911 guy. We muddied the water further by throwing the M&P in. It points so naturally to me and almost feels like it's "stealthy" the way the slide looks and feels low profile in the hand. I REALLY like the way the M&P sight alignment looks and the way it points. However, after doing lots of research on the interwebz, I feel like an odd ball alien. Am I the only person who feels like the hump on the backstrap of the M&P is all in the wrong place and is SUPER uncomfortable? The guy in the shop checked the backstrap and said it was already the small one. I'm wondering if he misread it or something. The hump actually almost caused pain in my hand. I really want to love the M&P and not the G19 but I can't live with the hump in the back. Since I haven't come across anyone mentioning that anywhere, I feel like maybe the backstrap on there was in fact not the small one but I can't be sure. Input / Feedback here?

Cool. That's good to know. I won't be shooting lead bullets any time soon, all FMJ for me right now.

Wow. That's an impressive support story there. I'm very glad you weren't injured!!

I just got it to work using my iPhone. Not sure why mobile site is working but not the normal.

Same problem for me. Using Safari or Firefox gets the same result.

Okay, so with either 9mm or 45 ACP there should be no issues then. I'm not a fan of .40 caliber myself. Either 9 or 45. I was told about the Lone Wolf barrels but wondered it that messed with the reliability of the gun any. I suppose that question is for a different section of the forum though.

I'm thinking of getting a Glock. I'm semi-new to reloading but have very successfully turned out 5-6 batches of 45 ACP that run very well. My friend at the gun shop informed me about the Glock barrel not fully supporting the cartridge case at the bottom and said I might want to consider that if I'm going to be shooting a lot of reloads, but that he thought it was really only a concern with high pressure rounds as they can stress the casing at the unsupported area and if you are *unlucky* enough to have the same case in the same spot repeatedly through a couple or more reloading cycles, you could get a boom down the magazine. I just want to know what I'm getting into before I make a decision. I will likely be looking at a 9mm G19 but the 45 ACP G30 is on the table too. I can't decide on the caliber yet. I like both and have reloading components for both. If this is an ignorant question or in the wrong forum, please forgive me. I just wanna learn right. I don't know anything about issues related to the Glock barrel and reloading cases repeatedly. I want to make sure I'm not just out of the loop on this. Should I press forward with the Glock and have no worries about reloading my own ammo or is there a legitimate concern to be aware of?

I bought my wife a Sig Stainless Carry. Aside from the rear sight coming loose (set screw wasn't loctited or tight enough from factory I suppose) it is one fine piece of work. I almost sold my Smith 1911 to get one like hers if that tells you anything. They have one of the best safeties I've felt on a 1911. Real snappy/positive. I personally like the blocky look and lines on the Sig 1911. It's a little more modern looking imo. If you buy one you will have a good experience. I'm very particular so I did send our Sig 1911 back to the factory because the rear slide didn't mate up perfectly to the frame when the slide was forward in battery. It created some sharp corners. Sig refitted the gun with a new barrel and slide and sent it back in 2 days.

Is CC permitted at Predators Games
tt0511 replied to UncleJak's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Last time I was there I looked for signage. There is a statement that's pretty long in the breezeway (between the entrance and the next set of doors) that's in reference to weapons being prohibited on the property, maximum fine blah blah. It's kinda like the signs I've seen on school campuses years ago. I'm not sure if that's in line with the legal sign requirement to prevent permit holders from carrying on premises though. I'm not sure I'm willing to be the guinea pig to find out either. -
I know I'll be in the minority here but I just haven't seen many pics of 1911's with these smooth wood grips that I like. The wood is beautiful, the guns are beautiful, but for some reason to me they just look terrible together.

This is something I haven't considered. I haven't seen these "handalls" around much and am not that familiar with them. This may be the perfect solution actually because I could slip the Handall on when in the tactical course and during extended range sessions, but slip it off for normal carry or short range sessions. And, it's a cheap solution which I like very much right now. Especially since I love the look of the stock grips.

Thanks for the offer Dolomite. This is a CCO sized gun with commander length slide and officer's sized grip. I might consider the grips you have but I'd need to see a photo to see if I like them.

I just came across VZ 320 grips on their website. They look like they could be the answer to my problems. Anyone have experience with them?
