  1. Welcome to TGO! There's lots to read. Pull up a chair and get started!
  2. Well, funny enough.. I traded the P944 today. Picked up an XD Compact 45. Still large enough to shoot comfortably but a bit smaller/lighter than the Ruger. I'll miss the Ruger. It was my first handgun..but the XD isn't so bad.
  3. Welcome, welcome! I'm just north of you up here in La Follette. I'm new here myself, but reading/posting here is almost as addictive as gun shopping.
  4. Congratulations! This gives me some hope. Applied on 3/2, printed on 3/4. Maybe there's hope for early April.
  5. Love the AMD! It is so much fun to shoot! The finish isn't the greatest so it is a bit rough looking up close, but it is an AK. I don't think it is supposed to look too nice. I took it to the range today and let someone else shoot it. That thing is loud. Never noticed when I'm shooting because I always keep the hearing protection in place. Today I thought I was standing far enough away and removed my earplugs so I could chat for a minute.. Won't make that mistake again. Yikes.
  6. I was fine until I bought the P94. Now I "window shop" everywhere and find myself budgeting so I can buy *something* else, even though I don't know what yet.
  7. Hopefully there's something closer for you, but if not.. The folks that run the La Follette Sports Shop have an HCP class at the range "up the valley" from us a bit. I think the range they use is in Powell Valley, which is about 20 miles from Harrogate if I remember correctly. Give them a call on Monday. I'm sure they could tell you exactly where the range is and when they're having a class. (423) 562-0035 I used to go bowling at Hillcrest Lanes in Harrogate. Just under an hour one way and an absolutely beautiful drive. I think the range is probably about halfway in between, but I've never been there.
  8. AMD-65 AK built by TGI on Nodak Spud receiver Ruger P94 .40 S&W Ruger LCP .380 Waiting on my HCP so I can carry one of the Rugers. Right now my bet is I'll end up carrying the LCP if I can start reliably finding ammo. The P94 is a brick, but has been flawless at the range and just feels good to shoot. Then again, I may end up getting rid of one of them and getting something new. I have "up to 90 days" to decide! I did order a C-TAC holster for the P94. Anxious to get it and see how the P94 feels to carry. Maybe it won't be as bad as I think..
  9. Will do. Spent my two hours at the DoS on Tuesday. Went for fingerprinting today. The waiting begins!
  10. Good evening all, I just finished taking my HCP safety class over at Austin's. It was an all day event, lasting from 8am classroom start until almost 7:30pm finishing at the range. It was a fantastic class! Mike was knowledgeable and generally made the day go by fairly quickly with a good mix of real world stories and "facts" regarding handgun carry. I could have taken the class cheaper up here, but Mike's class was first-rate all the way. I was somewhat worried about qualifying because of my limited experience shooting. By the time we got to the range I felt comfortable enough. Now I just have to make the trip down to the DMV and get the government side of the process started. I just thought I would share my experience in case anyone within driving distance of Oak Ridge is looking for a place to take the course. Mike's class is a combination of the TN required bits and the NRA Basic Pistol course. He did a great job of creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. We had a wide range of people in the class with various levels of shooting experience. Based on my observation, it looked like everyone had a good time and did well. Jeff
  11. All three of my guns are "new to me". I just took the P944 to the range this past weekend. It is an absolutely *great* shooting gun! I put about 80 rounds through it and it was perfect. My shooting isn't so great, but I can hardly blame that on the gun. The only thing I have against it is I won't be able to easily carry it when I get my HCP. That's why I bought the LCP. It should be very easy to carry. The only downside to it is finding .380 ammo at reasonable prices. Before I worry about that I still have to get into a class somewhere so I can get everything sent it for my HCP. Seems they're all full these days!
  12. Good evening all! I've been perusing the forum for the past couple of weeks and figured I should probably post up a brief introduction. Well, let's see.. My name is Jeff and I hail from the great city of La Follette. I currently own a Ruger P944, Ruger LCP, and a TGI built AMD-65 (currently broken, argh!). I have a 9 year old son. Sadly, he has absolutely no interest in guns (yet!). There's still time. I'm a programmer/analyst by profession and currently working on a Masters degree in Information Systems. That about sums up my existence. Looking forward to joining in on some great discussions.
