  1. Been done a long time, O not the first by a long shot.

Imagine the response if a sitting President was poisoned by a foreign government?

We're sorry that your strychnine found it's way into our president's meal. Please accept our sincere apologizes for your inconvenience. We have enclosed check for reimbursement to cover the costs of the poison.

    Your friends, the USA government.

  2. This is politics being used to punish us for not letting the federales have more money. Just more proof that the elitist

politicians don't care one damn thing about you and I, or the country. Obama is setting the course on this, using this

sequester as an excuse to punish you and I. That's the only reason I can think of because spending has not been

    reduced one thin dime.

There is no sequester, just punishment.

If it was about saving money, they would have nixed political job perks first.

I think it's about time for O to put a few of his limos and planes on Ebay.

    For Sale:

2009 Cadillac DTS Limo. Lightly used. Heavy armored. Comes with night vision and custom run-flat tires.

Needs fuel pump. President sold separately.

    Will ship world wide.

  3. It is just as dangerous if not moreso, for thousands of years they've killed & killed million(s) of infidels, but for some odd reason these days they are "the religion of Peace".

You'll have to be more specific. :)

  4. There's absolutely nothing on TV worth watching if you have internet, IMHO.  The wife likes to look at programs as they are broadcast, but as for me, I can wait a few days.  Netflix and DVD rentals also save you the extra money you'll spend at the movie house.  And you don't have to sit in someone else's spilled drink.

This. I cut off my cable a couple of years ago. I can watch most anything online (720p/1080p) within a couple hours of airing usually.

Now that Youtube is competing with Amazon and Netflix, you can watch a surprising amount of free1 tv shows, movies and live streamed content.

1Paid for by ad revenue I guess???

  5. I'm right there with yuns. I wish teevee shows would just use the actors' real accents instead of the super fake sounding accents.

True Blood and Hart Of Dixie (hey, don't laugh :leaving: ) are the absolute worst about using fake cajun accents.

  6. I'm not much of a wine or liquor drinker but I do like a good beer. I live 3 miles from the Virginia border and just 5 miles to the first grocery store across the line. And it amazes me how much better the beer selection is over there compared to what we have here. There is a tremendous amount of GREAT beer that becomes available when you get to the 6.5% to 8% ABV content, and at grocery store prices it's even better.

I'm right there with you with GA.

I wonder how much money these liquor stores are loosing due to customers going to surrounding states. Heck, wasn't that the reason TN passed the lottery?

I never said the women were not oppressed. I'm not sure if the women themselves think they're oppressed... but that goes back to the taboo'ish norms around the world thing. At any rate, it's not any of my concern what goes on over there. They choose to live there. They choose to live under an oppressive regime. Those poor oppressed women can hitch a camel to the airport at any time they so choose.Plenty of others have done it, yanno.

I am saying that a hair covering isn't a symbol for anything - no more than a Volkswagen car is a symbol for racism. Hair coverings are normal dress in many religions, and not just the nuns.

I'm sorry, but I'm not buying the "it's because of an oppressive government" spiel. I've heard Dane Cook tell better lines than that.

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is? Women are not allowed to drive over there, so don't allow them to ever ride in a vehicle too.

Oh, and the only make-up they're allowed to wear is eye liner. And they have to wear shoes in public...

With that, anyone who puts a burqa on my daughter will get punched in the face.

Stop oppressing your daughter with violence!

Sorry, couldn't resist. fist bump? :P

  8. I'm sorry. I can not possibly get any more apples to apples than skin covering to skin covering.

The only difference is the amount of covering, the societal acceptance and religion. Boobs and hair - it's all the same from where I sit.

Are all of these women being oppressed?1

    images_q_tbn_ANd9_Gc_QH8r_Ih_Nt7_bl5_Sw5

If it is all about a symbol of oppression, then what about vehicles? Women are not allowed to drive over yonders, either. Where are your complaints about drivers ed. in schools here in the US?

Will you let your daughter drive one of those evil symbols of oppression?2

It is akin to putting a gold Star of David on a Jewish kid. It is complete unacceptable regardless of the context.

It's not the garment you have a problem with, it's the idea of a Muslim garment on Christian children? Honestly?

THAT I can completely understand, as I would have a problem with a teacher putting religious garments on my children2. The children in that classroom that day were not being objectified. That's nonsense.

1 Notice there's not an Amish woman in that pictorial. Are the Amish being oppressed, too?

2Boobs and hair are arguable, maybe.... but cars and cars are surely a direct comparison, no?

3Context being kept to learning about cultural differences, or education about other religiously ruled nations. Other than that, this heathen shouldn't have to tell anyone here how I feel about religion in schools.

  9. I think you miss the point on where this practice originates from and why it was established. If anyone wants to throw a burqa on and tool on down Printer's Alley, more power to them, but I'm not going to be fooled into believing that the widespread practice of doing so is not designed as an oppressive tool by oppressive governments. Muslim women in America may still wear a scarf or such to cover their hair, as many come from countries where that is normal and many interpret the hadiths to suggest pious women of the time did so. That is a far cry from a government that mandates an outfit that covers you head to toe or else you'll be beaten and/or thrown in jail.

I know we all hate it when folks start comparing things to Nazis, but lets ponder a moment on the connotations associated with a swastika. While it is a person's right to sport one, you can't deny what that symbol represents. Mandated garments designed by governments to oppress women carry their own connotations as well. While a person is free to wear it and subject themselves to a life of subservience, they are stepping into a very dangerous realm when they put that garment on my child. Same as if they wanted my kid to wear a swastika for holocaust awareness day.

I see. You don't have a problem with hair coverings. You have a problem with some government, somewhere, forcing someone that lives there freely, to fully or partially cover their head while out in public.

I guess you would be fine with your daughter wearing one as long as she does so freely?

Far as oppression goes; oppression is defined by culture. Over yonder, bare hair is taboo and their religion has prescribed laws concerning the showing of hair. Over hither, bare breasts are taboo and religion has prescribed laws concerning the showing of breasts.

Where do you stand on the oppression of women here in America? Our government is forcing poor helpless women to wear shirts in public.

Teachers all over this country are forcing students to wear cloths. For shame! How dare they!

That said, I must ask the obvious here. How do y'all know the teacher in the OP wasn't using the garments as a demonstrational aid to show students the cultural differences throughout the world? Or maybe the teacher was discussing womens' rights around the world?

  10. There is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference between someone who voluntarily wears something due to religion or conservative nature, compared to a garment which is mandated under penalty of violence or imprisonment. That is what burqas and chadors are in the countries they are worn.

And who is forcing Muslims to wear them here?

  11. Well, I'd say it's much ado about not much, and grasping at straws.

“Capable of accepting more than seven rounds" is not the same as "capable of being modified to accept more than seven rounds".

So most pump shotguns on the market, and in people's hands, will be legit. Very few folks have more than a 7+1 pump shotgun.

Whole law sucks, but I don't think this part makes it suck more or less to speak of.
