  1. Training for a bike ride the first part of May that's called 3 State 3 Mountain. It's a 100 mile ride that starts and ends in Chattanooga, and as you probably guessed you ride through 3 states (TN, AL, GA) and climb 3 mountains (Suck Creek, Sand Mountain, Lookout Mountain) along the way.

Are you planning on doing the century? I haven't ridden it, but I hear it is pretty tough.

  2. What did you guys do for Christmas? Anything special?

Did you give or receive any cool gifts?

To answer my own question, I didn't really do all that much. Since we had a pretty decent snow, we decided not to go to my sister's house and celebrate with them this year. I have sat around the house doing some reading, watched a few 24 season 8 episodes, watched people slip and slide while trying to make it up the hill in my subdivision, made a few calls to family wishing them a Merry Christmas, and fooled around on TGO. ( I am still waiting for a response to what a Camden drop is.) :koolaid:

As far as gifts go, my mother bought me a nice jacket to go running in and a few pairs of jeans. I was gracious towards her, but it made me a little irritated because she doesn't really have the money to spend on me.

  3. I think you guys have got the wrong impression from my original post. I am not complaining at all. I thought it was pretty good to not have one single issue with the performance of my Glock for almost 2k rounds. Anyway, it wasn't a big deal and probably ammo related. I fired another 100 or so rounds after the stove pipe and didn't have a problem.

  4. Well, I found the answer to my dilemma. I made an assumption that I was shooting left with all my handguns. This was not the case. I went to the range the other day, and I was working with my 1911s. Dead center.

I then took the two guns I was having an issue with and checked them. Both were slightly left even with my hands resting on a table to ensure I wasn't moving the gun. I adjusted the sights slightly on both of them (had adjustable sights on both). Voila, dead center.

I ended up buying a laser from JeffsSig anyway to see what it would show. Answer: Not much. I didn't see any movement when I was squeezing the trigger.

  5. :shake:

Not always, true. But you can't be scared of damaging your pistol if the alternative is getting shot. I know you know that getting shot sucks.

    Mike

I understand what you are saying. Now, this may be naivety on my part, but I don't think LEOs have such itchy trigger fingers that they are going to shoot me as I am laying my gun on the ground and saying, "I am putting down my weapon."

I am not afraid of get my handguns messed up. They can always be fixed, refinished, or replaced. However, in this situation, I believe I may be able to do what I stated. No point in messing up your gun unless it is absolutely necessary. In the end, I don't really have to worry about it because I wouldn't be in the situation the OP presented.

  6. It a situation like that. I would probably gently place my firearm on the ground while saying, "I am putting my weapon down." I would then probably back away and follow the LEO commands. For different reasons than those previously mentioned, I am not going to throw or drop my gun to the ground. If I am carrying one of 1911s, which I usually am, I ain't dropping it. They are just too expensive for that.

After everything was said and done, I would probably give my neighbor three things: a copy of the constitution, a printout of TN firearms laws, and the middle finger.

  7. I didn't have anything going on earlier today, so I decided to go the range before all the Christmas festivities begin. I was working with my Glock 34, and somewhere around the 1800 - 1900th (cumulative, not in one day) round I encountered my first problem. I had a stove pipe.

I think that shooting almost 2k rounds through a handgun before encountering your first problem is pretty impressive. I doubt I will buy another Glock because I hate the ergonomics, but they are certainly reliable.

  8. I don't think I have been on the forum long enough to offer suggestions on how you guys can make it better. I do like the "SME." I am one of those that you are speaking of when you said,

that a person who is new to the community has precious little chance of identifying the true experts from the "mall ninjas" who have zero practical experience and just parrot what they read last month on some other forum.

I take it that it is derogatory, but I still don't know what a mall ninja is.

One thing I do like about this forum is there aren't too many forum elitists (there are some) who will slap you down for asking or saying something stupid. I am sure I have made several faux pas and will continue to do so. I hope it isn't changed too much to cater just to the elitists, SMEs, or sycophants.

  9. Im looking at probably 2-3k. Wouldn't want too go much higher, just wouldn't feel comfortable carrying it if i put more than that in it. Right now Im carrying a Kimber raptor 2 which I love. Just ready for the upgrade. I think I might run around town looking at a few tomorrow. Anywhere other than reloaders and outpost to find what i'm looking for? Thanks guys

I bought my Wilson from Bud's Gun Shop (they are out of stock on Wilsons the last time I looked) and I got my Nighthawk from Hero Gear.

  10. Just wondering if everyone has finished with their shopping. Anyone like me who waits till Christmas Eve to begin?

It has become my yearly tradition to wait until Christmas Eve and fight all the traffic at the mall to buy a bunch of gift cards for everyone on my list.
