  1. I went here yesterday and am very unsatisfied with the level of service I got... They hardly have any items in stock and were rude to me.

I went in looking for a leather shoulder holster, the older gentleman behind the counter said we have some over on the wall, I went over there and there wasnt a single shoulder holster, leather or otherwise. So he said I can order you one. I said well I dont know what I want, I was hoping to try on a few and see how they feel. His response was "Well, were not gonna bring out 3 or 4 just for you try on" and then he went on about how he cant keep too many in stock because thats just money hanging on the wall and not in his pocket... My thoughts were, is this not a store? I left and will never go back again. I normally go to Carters Shooting Supply in Harrison but was hoping to save some gas by going here. Its half the distance... For now on, if I want quality service, I know where to go. Carters Shooting Supply!

I am sorry you had a bad experience with Shooter's. I know all three of our local gun dealers (Shooter's, Carter's, and Sportsman's Supply), and I am a member at all of their ranges. I deal with Chris and the rest of the guys at Shooters regularly. They are always very helpful and will be more than willing to order whatever it is you need. Ray Carter and Carl are the same way.

Does Shooter's have very much in stock? No, but neither does Ray or Carl. Speaking in regards towards Shooter's, I wish a lot of people would realize that this is a new business. Unless you are backed by a ton of money initially, there is no way you can afford to take on a huge inventory of merchandise to satisfy every customer. If they did bring in the merchandise, there is no guarantee that they will sell it. They are competeing with the big box stores, Academy, Sportman's Warehouse, and the thousands of online retailers. I talk frequently to Ray Carter about this very thing, and it is tough for them.

I was talking to John (Shooter's) the other day and he was telling me about becoming a new dealer for Beretta. During that conversation, he mentioned about wanting to carry CZ, but could not afford to initally purchase $30k worth of CZ merchandise to become a dealer. He said he doesn't believe he can move that much merchandise in the area. The same thing was said about Kimber. I happened to have agreed with him on both points.

If Shooter's is successfull, which I hope they will be, I believe that they will expand their product line. Time will tell.

In regards to Carters, I like Ray and Billy. They are good guys and will do you right.

  2. Well, I went to the range today to shoot my new rifle. I bought 5 boxes of some PMC ammo from the dealer and mosyed on out to the range. I didn't put the target out very far (about 12 yards) so I could get a feel of how it shoots and what the recoil is like. I had no idea what to expect since I have never shot a rifle outside of an old Marlin .22 about 20 plus years ago.

The trigger pulls is heavier than what I am used to, but it didn't have any creep to it. I was surprised at the recoil. It was pretty much nonexsistent. As far as accuracy goes, the rifle is more accurate than I am at this point. I was shooting about 2 - 2.5 inch groups, which is pretty crappy for an ar at 12 yards. As of right now, I am more accurate with my handguns than my rifle. I know that will change the more I shoot it.

One thing I did notice was my support shoulder was getting very tired rather quickly. Sort of made me feel like a pansy considering I am in fairly good shape. I workout with heavy weights 5 days a week. It could be the way I am holding it, how much pressure I am applying, or from just doing something new.

I look foward to shooting it more. It looks like this is going to be a fun gun to shoot.

  3. Thank you mav and you too USMCJG for adding to your donations.

At this point it looks like a good sum will go to a charity again this year. What time of charity do you guys prefer? I personally prefer charities that help children but that's just my opinion.

    Sounds good to me.

  4. I feel I have a stake in this conversation because of my participation in the “Three Year Old with the Teddybear” thread; and I am, in fact, in favor of profiling. Those who believe in “no profiling” for the most part would have you believe that no people groups are exempt from the “terrorist” label. The current system in use in by the TSA is built on the proposition that “all are equally suspect.” I simply don’t believe that and neither should you. This proposition flies in the face of the American proposition of “innocent until proven guilty” and willfully ignores the facts of the current situation. The facts are, as others have pointed out, that middle eastern men of known nationalities between the ages of about 18 and 40 carried out the attacks on the Twin Towers. They were muslim extremists. I will grant that you cannot tell if folks are “extremists” by looking at them; but you can (….and the Israelis do…) get some idea of what they are up to by interviewing them before they board their flights. I firmly believe that we should quit playing this grotesque game in which we purport to have the high moral ground because we “don’t profile” and adopt some variation of the Israeli system.

Now to the question of “Christian” terrorists. Daniel would have you believe that there are, in fact, “Christian terrorists”; and, because of this, all are suspect. I will grant that over the years there have been groups who purported to be Christian that engaged in “terrorist acts” (…if you extend the definition of “terrorist acts” passed the definition needed for the TSA; specifically airborne terrorist acts….). The acronym “TSA” stands for “Transportation Security Administration”. That means that the TSA is tasked with “airborne” safety. I will also grant that not all muslims are potential terrorists. I don’t remember anyone saying they were.

The problem with this whole TSA “screening” issue is that it gets worse and worse, and it takes on all the political facets that are present in our society. The “anti-racists” would have you believe that you are a “racist” if you look to race as a “profiling element”. The “nationalists’ would have you believe that if you look to “nationality” that that is “non inclusive” and “elitists”. The fact is that these very two “profiling elements” would have stopped the Twin Towers tragedy. The problem, at least in my mind, seems to be that we seem to be completely willing to ignore these two factors because we are afraid of being called “racists” and “non-inclusivists”. We somehow believe that we have the “moral high ground” because we “don’t profile”. The fact is that we lost the “moral high ground” a long time ago.

The fact is that we are at war with muslim extremism. Muslim extremism is being carried out by a specific demographic of the people of the earth; and to believe otherwise is foolish.

I believe that it is obscene and grotesque to allow the things that we are seeing in this country with regard to “purported airline safety” and not be agitated to the point of wanting something done about it. I do not believe that we ought to spend our time patting down white three year olds with teddybears, eighty year old white women, cancer survivors, and nuns. The fact is that it is much easier to pat this demographic down to demonstrate that “we don’t profile and we are therefore doing our job” than it is to do the right thing and deal with the inevitable howl that will come from those who feel they have been singled out because of their specific demographic. This has already happened with several “Muslim Clerics”; we just seem to have forgotten it in this discussion.

The firestorm that is brewing now in regard to the TSA is exactly what needs to happen. It is high time that people got tired of a bunch of politically correct bureaucrats and chumps subjecting a sector of the population of this country to the idiotic procedures that are in use now. The fact is that things need to change and I believe they will. Another fact to ponder is that as long as we live in a relatively free society, there is the danger that a bunch of thugs may kill themselves and you to prove a point. Folks that fly are keenly aware of this and have chosen to take the risk in order to get where they want to go in a relatively short time.

I’ll close with this and stir up a separate hornet’s nest. It is my firm belief that a “moderator” should be just that; a “moderator”. That says to me that when you actively take up the conversation in a thread, you move from being a “moderator” to being a “member” and, as such, other “moderators” should become the custodians of propriety and objectivism; and therefore, become the “new moderator” of that specific thread. I believe that when you use both the latitude to post and lock threads you are in effect becoming a “super opiner” with absolute power to say what you want to say without danger of any rebuttal (…responsible or irresponsible…). I think you and others ought to think about that a bit.

I fully understand that there is “no guarantee of freedom of speech here”. All posters are to abide by the rules and are subject to discipline and censure. Ideas (…both good and bad…) generally don’t need censure. Personal attacks do. Remember this, the original posters didn’t make the “Teddy Bear” thread a hornet’s nest; cl did by calling out everyone who didn’t agree with him.

    That’s how I see things.

    Leroy

    Well said.

  5. Well, I see this thread is being pushed down the thread list due to all the drama postings. I would like to push it back up to the top of the list with this posting and increasing my initial donation.

I have made several posts on this forum showing some of the firearms I have bought this year. While I worked hard to earn the money that was used to pay for those firearms, they were totally unnecessary. I have been thinking about some of those who perhaps have looked at some of my threads and they may be someone who has lost their job or were given an expensive medical bill etc... If I can spend a bunch of money on firearms then I should be able to help those who are less fortunate or have endured a hardship.

I am thankful for what I have and for my good health. I pray that those blessings continue.

By the way JPS, your wife has nice legs  (nice gun too).

  6. I have read through both threads. I have no idea what your intentions were. While I disagree with your position on profiling, I will give you the benefit of doubt that it wasn't your intention to smear fellow posters as potential terrorists. However, I think you wrote your words poorly.

It may be wise to read this page on Mr. McVeigh... Several of you sound eerily similiar.

That leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

  7. I may get beat up for saying this; but i see the AR business like the computer business; if the parts that go inside are good, names dont mean much unless you are a collector. If good parts go in (...no matter the name...), good reliability and accuracy will result. If it's possible, there are more great AR parts out there than there are 1911 parts. I like Spikes, Yankee Hill Machine, Bravo Company, Noveske, LMT, Double Star (...right close in ky...); the list goes on and on. Take a look at the AR builder feature on the Brownells website, plus the stuff available at AR15.com and m4carbine.net. There are also several great guys who are members here who are a great resource and help.

I don't understand. Why would you get "beat up" for such a claim? Heck, you fellas may be right. Building your own ar may be the best way to go. In my case, however, it wouldn't be. I am not very comfortable with rifles considering it is only this week that I got my first rifle. Perhaps as I get more familiar with my rifle I will do as you guys do, and build my own in the future. As of right now, I am happy with my purchase, and look foward to learning how to shoot the thing.

  8. ...

I've been married for thirty years, and even while it has had it's ups and downs, I can't

think of anything I would change. We were married in a church, not by the state.

And I really don't give a damn about what some professor or some survey has to say

about it. It is complete rubbish. Without marriage, our civilization will continue to fall

apart. What's left will be tribal in nature and values will continue to tumble.

But, that is just my opinion. "If it feels good, do it" doesn't cut it in the long run.

A relationship can be had by anyone. That's only part of a marriage.

I agree, although I don't understand what you mean by "what is left will be tribal."

  9. That first one and part of another I am sure is all I have ever seen though.

You ought to read all of them. As I stated in my earlier post, it is definitely not my normal reading material, but they are fantastic. The first two HP novels and movies are definitely geared towards kids. With each progressive novel, the theme becomes darker shifting it more to a teenager audience. The last two novels in the series are very dark and IMHO definitely not for young kids.

That is one thing I have to give JK Rowling, she has written a series in which the writing style changes as the characters grow in age. I am amazed at the talent it takes for such an undertaking.

  10. You can buy one like I bought. A LWRC M6a2 d-dea. You can see pictures under my thread, "Finally bought my first rifle." I haven't got to shoot it yet, but from everything I have read it is supposed to be a top notch ar. I don't think the DEA would be using it if it was crap. The downside is they are a little pricey.

  11. This is a picture of a late thirties balding man @ Chipotle in Green Hills. He is wearing a Harry Potter quidditch jersey while reading a Harry Potter book in a place full of young children. I took his picture because I had a creepy feeling about him.

I here ya. That much of a HP fan I am not. I had never seen a Harry Potter movie until the fourth one came out. I watched it on tv and thought it was pretty good. I found a used copy of the Chamber of Secrets and decided to read it to see what all the fuss was about. I thought it was quite enjoyable, so I went and bought all of them. It is not my normal reading material, but I found them highly entertaining.

By the way, what does "....." mean? I have seen that posted several times.

  12. The new Harry Potter movie is coming out Friday. Anyone planning on going this weekend or taking their kids?

Being a Harry Potter fan, I will probably go this weekend to see it. After reading some of the reviews on IMDB, it sounds promising. I hope it is better than the Half-Blood Prince. It was good, but I thought they savaged the novel with that one.

Out of all the movies thus far, I would rank them from best to worst:

    Prisoner of Azkaban

    Goblet of Fire

    Order of the Phoenix

    The Sorcerer's Stone

    Chamber of Secrets

    The Half Blood Prince.

  13. Nothing on my list. Just look foward to taking some time off from work and spending it with family. I tell everyone not to buy me anything and save their money or spend it on someone else. A simple "Merry Christmas" is sufficient for me.

  14. I am not going to go to much further here other then to say, this is exactly what Big Brother wants and they are using Al-Quada to keep people scared. Plus factor in that Al-Quada would be happy just to have people scared for little to no continued effort on their part.

I agree somewhat, except I think it is backfiring. People are no longer scared. Now, they are getting pissed off with all the nanny-statism.

While I know it would never fly in this country due to all the P.C. crap, it seems like Israel does a pretty good job at their airports with profiling.

I wouldn't mind the groping if it was a beautiful woman doing it. Heck, if she looked good enough, I might even pay extra.
