  1. Toll-Free Numbers And How They Work | FCC.gov
  2. But there are no bars in TN....
  3. I think that is the question.... When do you become a "guard" and when are you someone that does other things but also if the SHTF also try to keep the peace and protect others?
  4. That's not how I take it....Securing rights has nothing to do with achieving them. It is up to me to try and achieve them...the government has recognized (not given them to me) that I have them are supposed to help me protect me from those that may wish to try and take them from me. Also life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness weren't the only ones, just the ones listed..."that among these...." so it would seem they thought there were more, just that those three needed to be mentioned. Maybe they thought others are or should be so obvious as not to need to be listed...I don't know, they were much smarter than I.
  5. Well there are two situations.....If you work there or if you are just there as my friend/guest etc.... As far as if you work there...which is what was being discussed...is it "your" place of business and therefore meaning you don't need a HCP? IMO Yes...in some others, No. If you are on my private property with my permission (business or not)....IMO you don't need a HCP, just like you don't need one when you are at the gun range etc... But I've not seen being on someone else's private property directly addressed in the TCA
  6. Go here LexisNexis® Custom Solution: Tennessee Code Research Tool There are sub-parts of 39-17-1351 all the way to the letter (w) with divisions and sub-divisions within those.
  7. TICS is for firearms purchases...not HCPs See 39-17-1351(h)(3) Upon receipt of the fingerprints from the department, the Tennessee bureau of investigation shall: Send one (1) set of the fingerprints received from the department to the federal bureau of investigation, request a federal criminal history record check based upon the fingerprints, as long as the service is available, and send the results of the check to the department .
  8. LOL..sort of what I thought. But if you have to go...you can apply for a non-resident permit...
  9. Yep...AR has reciprocity with Maine that we don't. Our DOS contacted Maine, but Maine declined. I can't think of any other state that would have a permit honored by more because with the exception of Maine all the states above in Red do not honor any other states' permits.
  10. I agree. ...unfortunatelly...it will be a bigger step to accomplish than it will be in actually moving forward...but every step counts.
  11. What Reservoir Dog and OhShoot said.....
  12. "We don't own the roads, the state does." (borrowed for use, post not directed specifically toward anyone) Well who is the state but us? Although it has become this way...the government isn't supposed to be some omnipotent entity that controls and rules over the citizens. It is supposed to be made up by citizens and for the citizens. I don't think most are saying they have a right to drive as much as they have a right to be free from Law Enforcement interaction without there being some reason to suspect them of criminal activity. I also don't think anyone is condoning drunk driving or any other dangerous or illegal activity.
  13. Well the title pretty much says it all.... Now TN permits are honored in all states that honor other state's permits...except Maine. http://www.doj.state.wi.us/dles/cib/ConcealedCarry/ccw-faq-20111020.pdf http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/wisconsin.pdf
  14. If all things are equal I would choose a pro-gun business or an anti-gun business (assuming I would some how know). Depending on the situation...I may even inconvenience myself to patronize a pro-gun business. But many times there just aren't reasonable alternatives....
  15. LOL...ok it's just that I don't know of anything that lets you legally cross a double yellow line (at least in TN) to go around someone on a bicycle or other equipment. That being said, as long as you did it safely, I wouldn't think most LEOs would have a problem with you barely going over to get around a cyclist....
  16. Local briefs: THP plans roadblock; DAR to hold free genealogy session; Chili supper planned; Facing Future Choices conference set | The Jackson Sun | jacksonsun.com
  17. Not doubting you necessarly...but do you know what code that is. I do know that if a vehicle (assuming it means bicycles too) is going 10 or more MPH below the posted speed limit and has 5 or more vehicles behind them, they are supposed to pull over at the next safest place and allow the vehicles to pass. 55-8-123(4)(A)
  18. I'm pretty sure had you just shown your DL you would have been waived through just the same. The courts have ruled that notice of roadblocks must be given to the public...newspaper, radio etc... that gives you the opportunity to avoid them if you like.
  19. IMO No But others have argued that the "Place of Business" exemption was just for those that owned/ran the business. However...and you may know this...in the OP it was the fact that they didn't have Security Guard Licenses not that they didn't have HCPs that was being pointed out.
  20. Yeah....I'm afraid trying to get Constitutional Carry in TN anytime soon would be like going from the Wright Brothers first flight to flying the Concord in a couple of days. It's just going to take a while, if ever, to get there, unless something major was to happen. I could be wrong, but I think the rancher getting killed in AZ possibly by an illegal is what pushed over there...of course OC without a permit was already legal, so not as a big a step. Perhaps allowing OC without a permit would be a first step...but I don't see that being easy to pass either. I mean the inside of you occupied car is just like your house in the presumption of fear if someone is breaking in...but in general you still can't have a firearm in your car without a permit.
  21. Ok Ok...I didn't really know for sure...just made an assumption by the name. But after you mentioned it I guess I do remember hearing about them from somewhere..... There are several exemptions to 62-35-123 in 62-35-103, so many in fact not sure I understand all of them. I've always wondered about those people in Yellow Shirts with the word "Security" on them that you may see at any event (not talking about large venues like LP field, Bridgestone Arena etc...) with a gathering of people. They may fall into one of the exemptions in 62-35-103 if I looked a bit further. But one thing I did notice...on almost all (if not all) of them that they may fall into...it said, "unarmed". So I get the feeling if you are armed and are providing security you may need be licensed...again unless your church, although that is not mentioned in 62-35-103.
  22. Yeah...I never have for sure understood where the line is between someone who may just be "keeping the peace" at a place and someone who is "security" that should be licensed. Remember before 39-17-1305 was repealed there was an exception for someone responsible for protecting the place...it didn't say anything about licensed security guards. There is a posting on the TFAs Facebook page about a Legislative Legal team saying in their opinion that self organized "security teams" at a church didn't need any kind of license. So it's ok if your protecting church patrons but not those a strip club? Well...it is the buckle of the bible belt, isn't it?...lol
  23. Well I just meant for a LEO being able to find out easily about lawful carry as it is now if they didn't know someone was a felon...but you are right nothing prevents felons from getting a firearm now if they really want it. I also agree that if it was truly a right...then some may have them that shouldn't...but that is just the way it would be. I guess as it is now in VT, AK, AZ and WY.
  24. I'm pretty sure that the police checking you in to a mental facility doesn't qualify as "judicially" committed. As that requires going to court and a judge determining you are not qualified to make decisions for yourself. Doesn't sound like that is what happened here. Also in all honest, I don't think there is any way the DOS would even be able to find this out. Until the law change here, there was no real reporting system her in TN for them to know if someone in this state had been in and/or committed to a mental facility.
