Looking good. Pay particular attention to the chamber, all kinds of gunk gets in there and if not removed when you shoot it can heat up and bind the bolt making it hard to manipulate.
will do, I will be breaking the whole thing down tomorrow and getting the Cosmo out or tryin to anyway lol

ok im using mean green and boiling water to clean the cosmoline off my mosin so far i have only done the oil bottle (though theres still alot in inside of the bottle that i cant seem to get out) and i have done the mag spring, after i did the mag spring i took my cleaner/oil spray and sprayed both sides and wiped off the excess, is that the correct way to do it or am i doing it wrong and should ask someone with more knowledge than me to help?
Meh, I wouldn't sweat it. Run a few patches down the bore if you're so inclined. I take care of my stuff, but I'm not OCD about cleaning every little spec of dirt. It's a milsurp, it likely saw a lot worse long before you got it and survived. What is it anyway?
it's a 1943 mosin nagant 91/30 -
Oh. Removing the cosmoline won't remove copper/lead fouling in the barrel. I'd scrub it with brushes only if there's considerable fouling. Otherwise the usual patches of solvent & oil are fine. Shoot it and see what you get. Some guns shoot better clean, most shoot better a little dirty.
I didn't see any dirt or fouling in the barrel but when I used a qtip in the bore the cosmoline was a little black so sometime in its past it was fired -
Generally yes, but it depends on what you're shooting. If it's something like a mosin or mauser with corrosive ammo, the trick is to use windex immediately after shooting. The ammonia in the windex neutralizes the corrosive salts in the ammo. Once you've done that, then "normal" cleaning is all that's necessary.
but is just the lube/cleaner and patches enough after the cosmoline is fully remove or do I need a bore brush and more ? -

After I get all the cosmoline out can I just use some cleaner/lube and some patches to clean and lube it or do I need more than that? -
I'm leary of introducing that much water to the wood, seems Ike it could warp but then again I'm sure most of these things have seen their fare share of water, mud, blood and who knows what, so who knows.
Just did. A little bit of all purpose degreaser and warm water took care of the oil can no problem. For the ammo pouch since it was leather I sprayed a little balistol which a CLP like product on and wiped it off. The sling and ammo pouch were pretty clean already though so all it really did was shine them up. I have no doubt at al that the degreaser would have worked well on the pouch had it needed it. The stuff I used FYI is called LAs Totally Awesome and can be found at dollar stores, a little goes a long way when mixes with water at a 2 part water 1 part cleaner ratio.
Haven't tried the simple green yet but I did buy four bottles of my favorite degreasing all purpose cleaner to see if works for next time. I left all the mosin paraphernalia in the bag it came in. I don't see myself using it anytime soon and my shelf space is already crammed with stuff so I've got three bags of the stuff stuffed away in a closet to keep like new in case I sell it. Maybe I'll go try to clean some of it up for ships and giggles.
let us know how it turns out if you do! -
Could be the bleach they used to clean everything up when they installed the new system. But I'd think that would go away in days, rather than months. Does the smell coincide with switching the system over to heat?
that i do not know, i just know after the heat has run a while and then turns off there is a strong bleach smell

My girlfriends parents got new hvac system a couple of months ago and just recently we started smelling a bleach type smell in my gf's bedroom and bathroom both of which are above the hvac system itself in the garage, I asked her mom about it and she said that this new system has a air scrubber and that's what's causing the smell, but I don't think it should smell like bleach or am I wrong? Any advice from some hvac people would be great
