Ruger Gunsite Scout Extended Eye Relief Scope

Recommended Posts

After owning my Ruger Gunsite Scout .308 for several years I've finally decided to purchase an extended eye relief scope for it. I had originally planned to purchase the Vortex 1x6x24 Strike Eagle, however after a few reviews stating that the sight picture is a bit of a challenge to acquire 'quickly', at short distances, I'm a little hesitant to purchase. Does anyone have any brand experience or suggestions?

Well, hold on now, I have a Ruger Gunsite Scout with a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6, but I think I have the newer version, the 1-8 Strike Eagle on my Scout. But I do own both, and they are not extended eye relief scopes. If you're mounting forward, you'll want an extended eye relief scope. Unless Vortex makes a newer version, they are "normal" eye relief scopes.

I think I have a pistol scope or two around that I've tried on extended eye relief mounts on this one and a Springfield SOCOM, but I've always returned to a regular scope set up.
