Marlin model 60 magazine follower issue

I've got an old Marlin/ Glenfield model 60 that's giving me an issue. I've had this rifle for a long, long time and it's done this since I got it used. The issue is, when you turn the magazine tube to unlock it and pull it out, the little red magazine follower gets pushed up and catches in the feed mechanism. It doesn't take much to fix, just use a knife blade to push the follower toward the butt of the rifle and then down. Any ideas how to fix it?

Does it do it every time?

I am trying to remember what mine looks like. I know I have never had this problem.

Can you twist it in the tube? Turn it 180 degrees? Or does it not matter?

Does not do it every time, I'd say 3 out of 5. Turning the follower in the tube doesn't make a difference.

Not sure how many your tube holds, mine holds 18.

Is it feasible to leave a round or two in the tube when you go to reload?

At least that way it might only get stuck once.

Still not sure how it is getting stuck. Is it possible the follow is deformed or nicked up? Have you look into a new follower if this is the case?

The follower is in reasonably good shape, no big nicks. I haven't looked at the gun lately, I didn't realize that I could replace just that part.

I'll try to get a picture of the problem in the next few days, will need to shoot it.

Your spring might be too long, but that doesn't sound like it might be the actual issue.
