The First Annual Spring Cruise and (clay) Pigeon Shoot!

Sponsored by the Middle Tennessee Z Club

with much appreciated help from the Montgomery Shooting Complex!

CARS, FOOD, FRIENDS & SHOTGUNS; Enough Said!

I think all of us are ready for spring and whether you’ve got a special “baby“ sitting in your garage or a daily driver you love and appreciate, I’m sure you are eager for some warm weather and a chance to enjoy your ride - this is a perfect excuse to do just that (yes, this is being put together by the Middle Tennessee Z Club; representing all generations of the Datsun/Nissan Z sports car, but if you love cars and driving and enjoy the camaraderie of some friendly competitive shooting this is an event you’ll enjoy.

Whether you are an experienced clay target shooter or have never shot a shotgun and whether you are a guy or a gal, you can have a lot of fun at this event – no one needs to feel “left out†and there will be some basic instruction for those who are totally new to the world of clay pigeon shooting.

Of course, you can bring your own shotgun but for those who need it, appropriate shotguns will be available for loan; ammunition and other items available for sale.

WHEN: Saturday, April 10, 2010

WHERE: Montgomery County Shooting Complex (Montgomery County Shooting Complex )

PLEASE RSVP!

We must have a headcount so the complex can properly prepare for us (and there is a maximum number of shooters that the complex can handle) so please RSVP with your name and telephone number to Bob Armentrout either by email at RBArmentrout1954@hotmail.com or by PM here.

SCHEDULE:

  • We’ll meet at Bob Evan’s Restaurant at Opryland/Music City Drive (200 Rudy Circle). If you want to have breakfast I’d plan to arrive no later than 9AM. Otherwise, plan to get there about 9:50AM as we’ll leave Bob Evan’s at 10AM sharp.

  • Cruising for about an hour and a half on back roads to arrive in the Clarksville area at about 11:30.

  • We’ll be at the Clarksville stop (specific spot TBD) from about 11:30 until about 12:15 – this will give you a chance to grab something to eat and/or some gasoline for those who need it as well as a chance for folks to join up with us there.

  • We’ll leave Clarksville about 12:15 and spend about another half-hour traveling to the Montgomery County Shooting Complex )4201 Southside Road; Southside, TN 37171).

  • Our afternoon of shooting will be from about 1PM until about 4PM

  • Trophies will be awarded for “Best Shooter†of the day and for “Least Threatening to Clay Pigeons†(both based on hit/miss count).

  • After our shoot; we’ll head back to Nashville and we’ll stop at a watering hole (location TBD) for food, beverages and likely a few tall stories about how the wind shifted their pigeon and made them miss!).

COSTS:

  • Range fee: $5.50
  • Fee per Round of American Skeet: $5.00 (we’ll likely get in three rounds)
  • Ammunition: You’ll need one box of 25 rounds per round of skeet; they sell on site for $7.00/box or, of course, you can bring your own.
  • Gun Rental: NO CHARGE! The complex is COMPING our gun rental (usually $20/gun) for those who need one.

Assuming three rounds of skeet total cost will be approximately $42.00

WEATHER:

Hopefully, we'll have a perfect spring day but should the weather not cooperate we will cancel (another reason why to RSVP so the we can update you with any late changes!).

Check back here for more updates as they become available and please feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks!

-------------------- ROUTE DETAILS --------------------

Our cruise from Nashville to the shooting complex will be on good, two-lane roads which should provide a pleasant drive. After leaving the metro Nashville area we’ll basically stay on Route 41 to Clarksville then Route 48 as we leave Clarksville until we arrive at the shooting complex.

The return cruise back to the Cool Springs area will be a LOT more challenging and interesting with some very enjoyable and exceptional back roads and scenery…some of these roads, especially early in the return trip are a bit rough but nothing to worry about and actually in better shape than some of the roads around The Dragon that we all love so much!

Below are the details of the route to/from

Starting Point to Montgomery County Shooting Complex:

From the parking lot of Bob Evan’s restaurant, turn LEFT out of the parking lot

Almost immediately turn RIGHT onto Music Valley Drive

Go to the end of the road and, at the traffic light, turn LEFT onto Mcgavock Pike

From Mcgavock Pike, turn LEFT and take the onramp to Briley Parkway

From Briley Parkway, we’ll take Exit No 14A onto Gallatin Pike/Route 31E

Stay on Gallatin Pike until we reach Old Hickory Blvd

Turn LEFT onto Old Hickory Blvd (5.5 into the cruise)

Shortly after we turn onto Old Hickory Blvd, is Cornerstone Church (on the Right) – if we need to do so, we’ll stop here and wait for anyone who got caught in traffic.

Stay on Old Hickory for about 1.4 miles crossing under I-24 and crossing Dickerson Pike.

Turn RIGHT onto Whites Creek Pike (6.9 miles into cruise)

Turn LEFT onto Eatons Creek Road

Turn RIGHT onto Old Clarksville Pike (18 miles into cruise)

Turn RIGHT onto Clarksville Pike/route 41 (18.9 miles into cruise)

Pass through Pleasant View (CAUTION – SPEED TRAP) (26 miles into cruise)

Near Clarksville, turn LEFT onto 41A Bypass (44.5 miles into cruise)

We’ll follow 41A Bypass all the way to McGregor Park (on the Left) 52 miles into our cruise.

Stopping Point in Clarksville:

McGregor Park is part of Clarksville’s Riverwalk area and will be our stopping point in Clarksville and the point at which anyone joining us from the Clarksville area can join up. There are a number of restaurants (some within easy walking distance) and gasoline stations nearby for anyone who wants a quick lunch/needs to fill-up. We should arrive here at about 11:30AM and we’ll plan to leave no later than 12:15PM for the final leg of the cruise to the shooting complex.

Clarksville to Shooting Complex:

Leaving McGregor Park; we’ll turn RIGHT onto 41A Bypass.

Bear slightly RIGHT onto 48/South 13 to follow the river

Where 13 and 14 split, bear RIGHT to stay on 48

Shortly after the split, turn LEFT onto Southside Road (63.5 miles into the cruise)

We’ll stay on Southside Road until we reach the Montgomery County Shooting Complex (69.4 miles into the cruise).

Approximate travel time to our stopping point in Clarksville is 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic and then another 20-30 minutes from Clarksville to the shooting complex.

Return Trip - Montgomery County Shooting Complex to Cool Springs Brewery (formerly Guido’s)

Leaving the shooting complex; turn LEFT back onto Southside Road

Go 1.7 miles and turn LEFT onto Chapel Hill Road

Pass through Southside, Tennessee continuing on Chapel Hill Road

Turn LEFT onto Bowker Road (8.6 miles into cruise)

Bear LEFT (9.6 miles into cruise)

Bear RIGHT (11.2 miles into cruise)

Turn LEFT onto Highway 49E (15.5 miles into cruise)

Turn RIGHT onto River Road/249 S (22.8 miles into cruise)

Bear Right onto River Road Pike (37.7 miles into cruise)

Where 249/251 meet/split; bear LEFT onto Old Hickory Blvd/251 S (38.7 miles into cruise)

NOTE: You will have access to I40 from Old Hickory at about 39.6 miles into the cruise

Stay on Old Hickory until we reach Highway 100

Turn LEFT onto Highway 100 (43.4 miles into cruise)

Turn RIGHT onto Old Hickory Blvd (44.0 miles into cruise)

Turn RIGHT onto Hillsboro Pike/431 South (46.7 miles into cruise)

Turn LEFT onto Mack Hatcher Parkway (54.4 miles into cruise)

Turn LEFT onto Cool Springs Blvd

Turn RIGHT onto Frazier Drive.

We’ll end at 600 Frazier Drive (58 miles into cruise)

Approximate travel time for the return cruise is 1.5 hours

Those who want to go directly home as quickly as possible after the shoot may want to backtrack to I-24. Another option is to cruise together until we have access to I-40 (about 39 miles into the cruise back) at which point, those wanting to get home can break off there. In fact, we have the option as a group to effectively end the “cruise†at I-40 and from there, seek the faster route to our stopping point (Cool Springs Brewery) – the roads beyond the 39 mile mark are nice but not as much fun as the roads up ‘till that point!
