Mounting flashlight on the barrel...

So I bought a heat shield for my Mossberg 12g. After mounting it I realized the screws between the barrel and mag tube that tighten the shield have taken up some of the room I had for my rail, which was mounted on the mag tube. Now I cannot mount the rail on the mag tube or the forearm will not have full range of motion. My solution is just to mount my rail on the barrel. I did some research online and found out the rail I have can be used for barrel or tube mounting. I looked at many pictures on different sites of shotguns with flashlights mounted on the barrel with the same rail I use. I have not read anywhere about negative issues with barrel mounting. Has anyone had any actual positive or negative experience with this?
