help identifying Colt Revolver

my boss just obtained a Colt revolver that had belonged to his grandfather.

He said all he knew for sure was that it belonged to grandad but he believed he carried it in WW1.

Only markings on it were on the left side of the barrel and while very worn the engraved marking said "Colt Army .38" no serial number.

It is a six shooter. It also only worked as double action. Pull the hammer back and it would not stay back, but it dry fired perfectly double action.

Caliber. model and age?

Rabbi? Anyone?

The boss took the revolver to Guns and More last night. He said they went ape over it!

One of the people there found a serial number. it is on the bottom strap(?) under the cylinder. They took that number and looked it up in a book and determined it was made in the 1920's. He was also advised to not shoot it unless a gunsmith checked it out first. And also advised to just put it up and not let anyone open it up.

I know it is an antique and all but what good is a gun that you can't shoot?

I told him to get it looked at and come with me to our next shoot and lets have a go with it.

Anyone know about .38 Colt long ammo?
