These are the emails I sent & received back from Senator D Jackson about Gun-Free-Zones Laws in Arizona & Georgia. Bottom line if someone said “you cannot carry your conceal weapon†here they are $$ libel, make them pay in a law suit.

Subject: Re: FW: SB -23 & A Gun-Free-Zone liability law for TN.

Hi Rusty,

Very interesting idea. I will give it further research and consideration. I will be in touch. Thanks for your interest and time.

Sen. Doug Jackson

In a message dated 1/10/20082:24:20 P.M. Central Standard Time, kim.andrews@legislature.state.tn.us writes:

Dear Sir; Thank you for authoring SB 23. Will you please conceder authoring another Senate Bill in TN.Gun-Free-Zone Liability Overview and Bill Text below

This may be the most pro-rights gun bill to come down in many years. A

version of the bill was first introduced by Rep. Randy Graf in Arizona

(HB2456 in 2002) with considerable support (12 sponsors!). Other states

are actively considering it (both Arizona and Georgia HB 31 { See

below } introduced it in the 2003 session). It has excellent publicity

value even if it isn't enacted in its first few years. A lot of very bad

gun bills are planned, so it's critical to balance that with bills as

positive as this one. Ask your legislators to at least look at the bill

and support it. Basically, "If you create a gun-free zone, you're liable

for any harm it causes."

HB 31

Gun-free zones; certain injuries; liability

(1) Franklin,Bobby 17th

(2) Amerson,Amos 9th

HC: SJudy

SC: 01/16/03 - House Second Readers

A BILL to amend Chapter 1 of Title 16 of the Official Code of Georgia

Annotated, relating to general provisions relative to crimes, so as to

define certain terms; to provide that any person who creates a gun-free

zone shall be liable for injuries to any person injured within such zone

as a result of certain crimes; to provide for treble damages; and for

other purposes

Sincerely,

Rusty Cox

Not a bad idea. Another thing I would like to see, and maybe easier to get passed, would be posted signs not having the weight of law.

In many states a "No-Gun" sign simply means if you are spoted you will be asked to leave and if you do there are no charges. In TN if the property owner has a properly posted sign under T.C.A. 39-17-1359 and you enter the property armed you can be charged by simply being on the premises without being asked to leave.
