7.62x54r headspace gauge - Jackson Area?

Recommended Posts

Like the subject says, I'm looking for someone with a field headspace gauge I can use to check the Mosin M44 I just got from AIM Surplus. Spent all afternoon tearing it down and cleaning up the cosmoline. Want to check headspace before I fire it.

I wouldn't worry to much I have had a few Nagants never gave them a second thought never heard of one blowing up the are built like a tank and the short ones sound like one too. I have tied a few guns I built from parts to an old tire an pulled the string on them if no bulged cases or hard to lift bolt handle I figure they are good to go.

Does the bolt and chamber/barrel number match? Typically no worries if matched.

Did you use the gauge for the firing pin?

shoot it...if the powder stains down the case neck 1/16 of an inch you're good to go...if it powder stains down the case neck 1/8 inch... not so good to go.

As always...anyone who believes my drivel about guns is just asking for trouble.
