My freind picked up a Rock Island 1911 today.Man the guy that sold it said it had

some oil on it but when we took it out of the warping it was driping with oil. Wow

I have not seen this before I guess that all of mine had already been clean before

I got to handle them.

Pretty normal. When first unwrapped they're pretty much soaking in oil to prevent rust in-transit and while in storage. If you buy a gun out of the display case it has almost always been wiped clean by the dealer prior to being placed in the case. Some dealers may also do that with all guns they receive in order to inspect it before offering them for sale.

Probably also varies a bit my manufacturer. My son's Ruger 10/22 was soaked in oil in the plastic bag. My Springfield 1911 was oiled, but not excessively. At least it cleans up easier than the ancient cosmoline that C&R guns come packed in..evil stuff right there.
