S&W Wheel Gun Cleaning

Recommended Posts

Cleaning a handgun has never been an issue for me. The one that never seems to get 100% clean is my 686(Stainless). Around the cylinder takes most of the time, but it ends up being free of powder (burn) marks. The frame itself is where I am having issues. Seems like I could clean all day and still be turning the cloth to find a clean spot on the rag. I'm not looking to change the finish or polish it to mirror like quality, just want the residue off. Any suggestions?

What solvent are you currently using?

For real tuff jobs that CLP or Hoppes #9 won't get clean I will use spray can of Brakleen brake cleaner, you have to get the non-sodium solution though & you also cannot get any of it on plastic/rubber because it will desolve it.

Flitz on the end of the cylinder works if, like your revolver, is stainless. Flitz will work on the frame too.

Cylinder cleans up nice with the Kleenbore cloth. Might have to try Flitz on the frame. Thanks graycrait.
