Local Appraiser Needed

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a Curio and Relic appraiser in the Mt. Juliet, Nashville area. I have a couple of antique guns that came to me after my father passed. Can anyone recommend a gun shop, collector, or for that matter someone here that can assist me? What is the going rate for a appraisal? I have looked these up on the regular auction sites and the prices are either extremely high or very low and none of the auctions pictures I have seen compare to the condition of these so I am looking for a realistic value.

And just for the sake of information they are:

1. Remington Double Derringer Type 1 Second model

2. Colt U.S. Army Model 1901

I know that Game Fair Limited does appraisals. They charge for the service but to get a proper estimate of a guns value.....

They specialize in shotguns so they may not do rifles or handguns. If not, I'm sure they would know who does.

Game Fair will do any gun and an Ins. Co. will be ok with it. He will put it in writing

and a small charge. Be ready for a letdown as most Remington Derringers have a

common flaw or three same with that revolver. Hope this is not case with yours.

Thanks for the reply. Game Fair is that in the Franklin area? And by the common flaw are you referring to the hinges being cracked? It appears to be in near perfect condition. To the eye this one has a couple of dents in the barrel but the finish is 98% no flaking or rub marks what so ever. The original hard rubber handles are smooth but you can see the checkering still. The breech and firing pin are both in excellent condition as well. I have seen some crazy prices that they sold for on some of the antique auction sites on this exact same model and they looked like crap compared to mine. As far as being letdown, I've got nothing to loose other that the time and appraisal fee. I figured if it was worth something maybe it could fund a project I've been thinking about.

Yes that is common on the hinges and some of the cracks only show with black light. My buddy collects antiques and there is a lot of thing to look for that I have no idea, like Lugers a dozen things to look for. I have seen him hand a lot of guns back

to people. Hope yours are flawless. Game Fair is in West Nashville- Bellevue Area.

You might call John and meet him at a Franklin Or Nashville Gun Show before it

opens and save the admission and drive through Nashville.
