Go with a S&W for a 45 ACP revolver. Smith has always made quality revolvers, semi-autos not so much. Depending on what you want to spend, Smith has a Jerry Miculek model that is awesome.

I wanted the same thing, a nice .45acp s&w wheelgun. Ultimately, I settled for a 629 in .44 mag. I didn't want some unobtanium light weight alloy, wanted adjustable red ramp sights, wanted a 4 - 4 1/2" barrel...couldn't find it in a .45acp. I'm pretty happy with the 629...its a 4". It's stainless, and I don't like that, but otherwise it handles pretty good for a large frame. Same weight/size as a similar handgun in .45acp, assuming they built one.

You can handload it to match 45acp +p exactly. If you don't handload, factory .44 is a beast, in both recoil and price, so that might kill it for you.

If you get one, post back. Be nice to know what features you wanted and what you got.
