  1. Mike, was this directed at me or JLaugh ? If it was inbound to me, I think you missed the gist of my posts and my + 1 's. ETA.....I clarified my other post in case I wasn't clear.
  2. what they said................ + 1 JLaugh, you see a pattern here ? All of the above is quality information. I'm not beating up on you.....you said you were new to guns, and (IMO) you have been exposed to some misinformation and/or some of the "gun myths" that get perpetuated. I don't know where Afton, TN is, but I'd strongly recommend you find a quality instructor in your area and get some good training before any bad advice or bad habits become ingrained.
  3. May I ask why ? Shoulder rigs look cool on Miami Vice, etc. but in real life they are less than practical.
  4. This one's about 7 weeks out.......................
  5. Welcome aboard from a fellow 'Boroan !!
  6. Rudy seems like a likeable kinda guy to sit down and have a beer with and talk about the Mets, but IIRC he's not very 2A friendly.
  7. I'm currently in a "traditional" First Responder course (60 hours) and they are getting harder to find in Tennessee, because (as I understand it) the state is preparing to phase out First Responders, and merge them with EMT-Basics. As to the survival aspect of the thread, there are bountiful "Wilderness First Responder" courses out there provided by private training companies, but they tend to run on the pricey side. The American Red Cross runs a "Wilderness First Aid" 2 day course structured differently than their regular first aid offerings. I know that the Murfreesboro Red Cross is offering this course later this month for $ 100. http://www.midtnredcross.org/HealthSafetyClasses.html
  8. A few months back, I ordered a few 20 round sticks from them for my Ruger Carbine. I had no problems.
  9. TDOC has crazy high turnover and major retention problems. To help relieve this, their physical and academic requirements have been relaxed substantially in recent years. If you're hired (and you'll probably be hired), it's my understanding that you'll train at a prison for a few weeks or until a new class starts at the Tennessee Correction Academy in Tullahoma. While there, I am told there are few, if any, standardized physical training tasks - it's more of a "do as much as you can do" guideline on the running and stuff. There will also be a few days of firearms training and a fair amount of unarmed defensive tactics work. Good luck to you !!
  10. .....get (literally) 114 new private messages when they joined GLOCK Talk ? All of them said the same thing "Welcome to GLOCK Talk, etc. etc." ........I'm guessing a computer glitch or something, but still kindofa PITA
  11. (1989) A sweet maroon 1984 Mazda B-2000 pickup truck.....manual transmission and a pair of cloth bucket seats.
  12. Donkey, welcome aboard from a fellow 'Boroan:koolaid:
  13. We don't sell gear..........could I interest you in an autographed snapshot of me and Chuck eating baloney samwiches at a rifle class we went to ? I'll then donate $ 2 of that purchase price to St. Jude
  14. Love me some Laurie Dhue and Elisabeth Shue
  15. I rise to make a motion that we thank Weird Al Yankovic for his time, and then dismiss him from our august organization.
  16. It might....I don't know. Danny's daughter is married to Phil Donahue, and I ain't crazy about him either. But while I may disagree with their stance on firearms, the clear fact is that they are the world leader in treating kids with cancer, and that takes money. I am solidly pro 2A, but my world view is not so one-dimensional "I won't support anybody or anything that disagrees with me about guns" that I'm willing to sit on my hands about things like this. I've sent money to St. Jude for years, and I'm going to keep on. You don't have to.
  17. SafetySouth Training Systems, LLC is pleased to announce that we have become a Partner in Hope with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. Effective March 1, 2010, SafetySouth will make a monthly donation to St. Jude equivalent to $ 2.00 for each student we train during that month. For example, if we serve 22 students in March, our donation to St. Jude would be $ 44.00. For more information about St. Jude, and how you can help, see the information below or visit www.stjude.org. The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder, Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Ranked the No. 1 pediatric cancer hospital by Parents magazine, St. Jude is the first and only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children, and has treated children from all 50 states and from around the world. St. Jude has developed research protocols that helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancer from less than 20 percent when the hospital opened to almost 80 percent today. In addition to pediatric cancer research, St. Jude is also a leader in sickle cell disease research and is a globally prominent research center for influenza. Founded in 1962 by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world, publishing more research articles than any other pediatric cancer research center in the United States. St. Jude treats more than 5,400 patients each year and is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. St. Jude is financially supported by thousands of individual donors, organizations and corporations without which the hospital’s work would not be possible. For more information, go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
  18. Thank God this has finally been addressed. Now the General Assembly can move on to more trivial matters......such as the $ 925 Million budget shortage. Or at least a new HCP training video
