  1. Tehran is simply biding its time until there is an American administration in place who will not give them any resistance. In the mean-time they are quite content to supply the insurgents with weapons, to sustain the destruction and killing. Iran and N. Korea will inevitably be a threat which must be directly dealt with, one way or another... Why give them the advantage of waiting to fight them on their terms? It is a choice between worse, and MUCH worse, given the fact that they refuse to back-down from world-wide confrontation and arms build-up. Iraq is a test of American resolve, it can only escalate from here. I say, set them back on their heels. That is the only way to prevent them from bringing their 'jihad' to us.
  2. That was my initial thought... But since the person who suggested this (I thought) ought to know, I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. Thanks! The purpose in going with a 14.5" + perm FH is, since the minimum barrel length is 16.0", I want the barrel to be the absolute minimum length. More of a 'because I can' thing, than anything else... I already have 16" + FH M4gery (with a traditional gas & buffer setup), and it has no problems. I wouldn't expect 1.5" barrel difference to matter that much, especially when 'real' M4s run just fine (albeit at a high cyclic rate). I believe that the purpose of the advice given to me about this, was to try to reduce the speed of the bolt and the felt recoil. Ehhh. From the way it sounds, I'd be better off leaving 'good enough' alone...
  3. The decision to send more troops: I think that it is necessary, though perhaps a bit late. More importantly, the ROE should not be so tightly reigned... If the guys on the ground (and in the air) had been allowed from the beginning to do their jobs at full-speed, this would likely have not dragged on like it has, with seemingly little to show. The cause is just, and the need is real... But due to liberals dragging their heels, pointing fingers, and their exacerbating media propaganda; the follow-through of this campaign is becoming more and more futile. It is very frustrating to see, for anyone who is able to form their own opinion in their mind, without the media putting it there first. The likelihood of stabilizing Iraq (or the mid-east, in general): This all goes back to a blood feud which started several millenia ago. The religion of 'peace' has festered in the souls of too many generations, for a resolution to be found within merely a few years, or even decades. The people in general want peace, but their culture will not allow it... because it is at the mercy of obsessive fanatics with world-domination and mass genocide as their goal, at any cost. That ultimate cost must delivered by us first, to all of those radicals, before healing can begin. Presently, much of the world is either blind or un-willing to take on the responsibility and sacrifice needed to prevent the further perpetuation of islamo-fascism. The stare-down with Iran: Much like N. Korea, and mutually assured... It will come down to more of the same, only worse. In light of the changing political framework in this country, and a few others, the world is in for a pretty nasty next 10 years, at least.
  4. Ah, I see that now after looking at a few other articles... perhaps the description I heard meant that the 21SF magazines could be used in the standard G21, but not vice-versa. That would make more sense.
  5. I have a couple, as well... Planning to trade/sell one off and buy 2 more this year. I want an XD-45 Compact and a Tactical in .45acp. Question. Does the grip extension sleeve on the 13rd mags for the XD-45 Compact slide off, to allow its use in a full-size gripped XD-45?
  6. The 21SF won't be realistically any slimmer than the regular 21 (uses the same exact size magazines). The (big?) difference is going to be in the depth of the grip, front-to-back, because they have removed significant portions of the front and back-strap volume from the polymer... They are trying to catch up with all of the other double-stack .45s on the market which already have ergonomic grips. I've heard the G21SF grip described as only slightly larger than a G17/22/31/37 grip. I won't be getting one, simply because I don't care for the grip format of any Glock (other than the G36)... but I would be far more inclined to get a 10mm version, if they decide to develop a G20SF... That would be nice. The G21SF would have been far more eagerly anticipated if it was a single-stack big brother to the G36, with 8 or 9+1 capacity... even I would buy that! But, as it stands... Glock has nothing new under the sun.
  7. I know what they are, and understand the concept... My questions are: 1. What are the draw-backs? Are they even worth it? 2. Do they really make a CAR d-i gas system function/feel like it has a rifle-length tube? 3. Would I be better off with a mid-length straight-tube setup? Here's where I'm going with this. The next project is going to use a 14.5" barrel (with perm-FH), and I don't want it to short-stroke using an extra-power Wolff buffer spring (which I would be afraid of if using a mid-length gas system close to the muzzle), but I also don't want to wear out my bolt quickly, or it misfeed due to high carrier-speeds... I'm going for reliability with minimal need for tweaking. I'm only concerned with semi-auto operation. I just wonder if i'd be opening up a can of worms (or wasting money) by going that route.
  8. I have similar TV taste as you describe... Along with the Discovery Channel and some occassional C-Span. Unfortunatly, I rarely get a chance to get involved in any TV series, so I have only ever seen but a few episodes of '24' here & there... I'll just have to wait for somebody to get the hint that I want the DVDs sets of several seasons... 'The Unit' was another decent series which I would have liked to have had more time to watch.
  9. I had one just like that. Very fun to shoot, and more accurate than the Ruger 22/45 I had at the same time. Mine jammed quite a bit using un-plated bullets (could have just been cheap ammo in general), and it got really dirty. Be careful dis-assembling it, the recoil rod/spring assy likes to jump out at you or across the room... And it's easy to lose the little plastic buffer tabs. I ended up buying a few extra (and still have some I think, if you want them). This is defenitly one of those guns to wear eye-protection around when field-stripping it! Fun shooter though, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
  10. Double-Tap in all carry-guns: .357sig: 147gr Gold-Dot @ 1250fps - 510ft-lb, from 4" barrel .45gap: 185gr Gold-Dot @ 1150fps - 543ft-lb, from a 4.5" barrel .45acp: 230gr Gold-Dot @ 1010fps - 521ft-lb, from a 5" barrel http://www.doubletapammo.com They are loaded to higher velocity than most, within SAAMI pressures, using the best (IMHO) bonded-JHP bullet available (Speer Gold-Dot). Fairly in-expensive too, compared to some of the big-brand makers who price for high profit-margins. (free shipping on 1000+rd, too)
  11. A database of firearms related links would be great! Firearms products, shops & shows, news/info, 2A stories, and gun forums with good content are always sought after. I'm sure we've all got a list of our favorites that we could share and benefit from.
  12. Mine took 45-days... it'll be time to renew for the first time here in a few months, I'll be sure to get it done early.
  13. That's approx 1-in-36 people in TN who have a TN HCP... Not bad. But, I wonder what percentage of permit-holders actually carry on a regular basis? I would be surprised if that number was even in the majority... honestly.
  14. In MY opinion, the Glock and XD are roughly equivalent. Same finish, similar size and capacity, and both are arguably some of the most reliable/durable pistols on the market... especially in their price-range. There is strong aftermarket support for both, as well. Both designs have their advantages, flaws, hype and horror-stories; but realistically, both are equally mundane, superbly functional tools, which few people possess the expertise to realize the full potential of... I don't. The minor differences between the two are merely grounds for choosing one or the other purely based on personal preference (grip, sights, trigger-pull, execution of safety features, etc...) I choose the XD based on my preference to its unique attributes apart from the Glock... Simple 'nuf. Because of this, I am more confident that I could defend myself more efficiently with an XD than a Glock, while others' results may vary.
  15. Problem sounds exactly like what my Beretta CX-4 used to do when the extractor claw would bind... You may find that there is a bur/roughness under the extractor claw, or it does not move freely. If you look at some of your spend cases, this will be evidenced by abnormal deformation on the forward face of the case-rim, 90* from the firing-pin indentation. If the extractor is not pivoting the case out and clear of the port, when ejecting, it will 'stove-pipe' sideways, or jam against the ceiling of the breech, holding the next round halfway chambered. Finger-nail files work great to smooth up the extractor claw, plus a good dis-assembly of the bolt... which may uncover some small metal shavings in the slot which the extractor pivots in. Of course, it could also very likely be a bad magazine... As already noted.
  16. I'll be wearing a blue, collared shirt, jeans, and a saddle-brown RH OWB holster. The guy riding with me is 6'7"... hard to miss.
  17. Empty (mostly) Blue Rhino + .223 Tracer = Spoiled fruit & vegetables... Tennis balls... Walnuts... Dead/unwanted appliances (always clean up)... Mostly paper though, really.
  18. I have purchased several guns from the Franklin Gun Shop... back before they changed locations (I don't even know where their new place is ); A Beretta CX-4 9mm, A Benelli M1S90 Tactical, and my first XD, a 9mm SubCompact. Good people . I need to find out where to visit them again.
  19. Hey hey! You're every where... I've been trying to decide which board to message you on for an invite, I'll be at On-Target in the 'boro tomorrow (1/26, Saturday). Likely will get there around 1:30-2:00pm. My sister's boyfriend is new to handguns, and I'm meeting him up there to shoot the pistol which he recently aquired (SA XD-40); I also want to blow the dust out of my P239, which hasn't been to the range with me for the last 3 trips... Anyone else in the area is welcome to join us for a meet & greet, of course. I like to grab a sandwich at Quizno's afterwards, usually... Depends on if my wife is done shopping by then and wants me to take her somewhere. I'll try to check this thread again in the morning.
  20. The XDs and 1911 are always Condition 1, when loaded. The Sig & Berettas are always Condition 2 (DA/SA, hammer down, chambered round), when loaded (I almost never carried my 92F, but when carrying concealed the safety was off, when carrying open the safety was on). Always one in the pipe, regardless.
  21. I'm going to have to stay on your good side, if only to gain permission to use your range once-in-a-while! I had the pleasure of meeting a few of the Franklin Co. reserve deputies when visiting the Top-Cop/Hero-Gear shop to check out their inventory, before it moved from Tullahoma to Winchester... I ought to go find out if they've re-opened yet. I'd bet you know Joe L. and those guys... Have you heard what the status of their new location is? They seemed pretty straight-up, I wouldn't mind patronizing a local business for a change.
  22. I am Eddie - a.k.a molonlabetn. Great site! I spend quite a bit of time on Packing.org, and OpenCarry.org (under the same pseudonym). This looks like a neat forum, I like it already, seeing that there are several folks close by. I reside in Coffee County, and the ranges which I frequent are On-Target in the 'boro, and Viola Valley (haven't been there lately due to cold weather). I carry either one of several XDs, a Sig P239, or SA 1911. Have a CAR-15A2 and a M590A1 along with a few other mundane 'range' guns. I stick to Blackhawk SERPA and Don Hume leather holsters. Next purchase will be a Walther P99as or a Remington 700 SPS .223. I just got married to a lovely red-head this past November, and will be buying a house with her later this year... I plan to invest myself into some reloading equipment at that time (which I don't have space for now), so that I can shoot more. Enough about me... It's a pleasure to be here, and intriguing to wonder if I know anyone here already. I'll be around.
