  1. Metro Nashville has specific prohibitions on employees. I believe that even off duty you aren't allowed to possess a weapon on city property like parking lots etc. I will have to double check once I get my permit, but I remember thinking it sounded like the policy was written prior to HCP legislation being passed as it seemed to contradict each other. I think it was meant to prohibit hunting rifles etc being brought to work. Well that and the long ago secretary who dropped her .38 while showing it off and it went bang according to office legend.
  2. I agree that it's unlikely that a recession or depression will result in total collapse etc. But if riots broke out in your area, then until they are over it's a moot point that they will only last 6 weeks and not be the end of the world. So I guess my point is, if you are prepared for The Stand, and wind up in a Katrina situation you are still good to go.
  3. Sadly even if they do pass the law I'm screwed as a city employee unless I want to pay for parking....
  4. Come on, help the man out....at least let him have the brass too!! More seriously, I'm with BiohazardMatt... Don't think it would be prudent to shoot just on that basis, but definitely be prepared to do so...
  5. I'm with Razorback...stay alert and know which way to go if the situation arises. Can't just floor it and risk getting t-boned, know if you can turn or back up etc. 3 to 1 odds isn't good even if you are alone, imagine it with your spouse/SO there as well. I wouldn't think a Mac10 would help much...spraying bullets in an urban setting plus would it really help you hit all three targets faster than a pistol?
  6. Don't you need a permit for those? And not having one could also help with a zombie disguise
  7. This...if he had just kept going, he would likely still be alive. And this... One punch to the head is enough to cause serious damage. Not saying it's likely but it can happen. One more reason to walk away, keep driving etc.
  8. Youch.....glad you didn't lose a toe! I fall into the can't stand anything between my toes, so count me in (out?).
  9. I something like that would be great, especially if you had friends/family join up. Lot's of room for storing scavenged materials (assuming it's a long term scenario) so you can drag home anything you find. Would keep out all but most determined assaults and slow down others. Assuming I can stay put, I will just start collecting fencing from the surrounding area and reinforce the existing fencing and try to stay put. Hmm note to self, make we have enough saddles for everyone in case we do have to bug out...that'll make the wife happy, finally one of my "silly" ideas let's her get new toys
  10. I think Lowe's type stores would be swarmed indeed. Best bet would be a smaller hardware store or just raid an abandoned house nearby. Personally I will be pulling down the older parts of one of our barns and using that to fortify. That and gathering up barbed wire once we round up the horses...not much point in a few strands covering the whole area...consolidation is your friend
  11. Short term it's not a big deal. I just wouldn't want to pack it away for 20 years. And this isn't the type of thing that would poison you per se, it's more of a long term health hazard. I should have spelled that out, was running on brain fumes when I typed that. **edit** I also note that FEMA starts off recommending food-grade containers. I would have to say start with 2L bottles as you build your stockpile, and then once things are rolling along divert some funds into better quality storage.
  12. Have to agree with Raoul on the best/worst case scenario. Same with food etc. If it happens, you are a lot better off. Same if there is a natural disaster. If nothing happens, then it's money well spent, same as every year that goes by that you "wasted" all that money on car, house and life insurance.
  13. Let's just agree that zombies don't pray, and that having a deity on speed dial in a SHTF scenario is optional. Oh and that dog food is easier to come by than people food.
  14. I don't think that is safe. The plastic isn't designed to last for long periods of time and will release chemicals. My wife is my source on this, and since she has a Master's in Nursing I don't normally argue with her.
  15. If you are in the Joelton area, a friend highly recommends ASP Gunshop Link It's where I'm going as soon as the wife stops backing her SUV into other people's cars
