  1. To be fair, do we know if anyone contacted them prior to the cases being filed etc? It's not like they can check every court filing in the US to see if any involve gun rights. Even if they did, they would then have to pay someone to head down there to find out if it was worth getting involved in etc etc. Not saying they are perfect, just that they aren't omniscient. Seconded, I would like to know as well.
  2. At my work place it's no badge, no gun. That includes parking lots etc etc.
  3. Right sorry. Phrased it poorly, I knew what I meant. At work we call it all "state" since we go thru the state switch etc. They can run a DL and it will check with the issuing state. What they get back depends on what that state chooses to send. In theory, they could add HCP info to a DL query, or set one up just to check it. Also, most of the background check sites have HCP info as well. Found out that our annual checks at work include checking to see if you have a HCP. Why I'm not sure but hopefully will have mine by my next eval and am curious to see what they say.
  4. Here in TN they run a query through to the state. Metro can do it from their cars, as well as call it in to dispatch. I assume smaller depts run it via radio/dispatch.
  5. I would have to say I am still in the CI stage. I can load and shoot, and that is pretty much it. Would have to use my toes to figure out how long it's been since I was at a real range
  6. Amen to that and Thanks!! to pfries.
  7. Except the average person only got two things from that story. A: bad guys with guns and B: even the victims have guns. Which, in their minds, doubles the chances of them getting shot.
  8. I'm with ya, I just felt ornery
  9. Playing Devil's Advocate, maybe while they were trying to get it out of their waistband he drew from a holster
  10. You're a luckier man than me. My wife just rolls her eyes when I mention zombies. But she is on board with stockpiling food etc so I guess that's better than nothing. I will just have to brush up on my melee skills
  11. Just to make sure, you mean only #10 was included, and the other 9 were dropped?
  12. I was under the impression that rights of the states were the rights of the people. IE it isn't a Federal matter, therefore the people decide on the city, county or state level. So no literally they don't, but in practice they do. Or am I missing something?
  13. Good point. Tack on a $500 fee, make renewal the same as getting it, ie class, fee etc. and how many people would just give up?
  14. All I've heard on the news is that this bill is supposed to allow states to recognize each other's permits. Or do they mean force states (the ones that have only issued to political cronies etc) to recognize other states? But wouldn't that be the Feds stepping on State's rights? Add in what Steel is talking about, and starting to really worry this bill might actually pass. As to Obama, think about it. He can pass gun control and claim to have supported gun owner's rights at the same time.
  15. I only got 11/12 because I said Yes to military grade weapons. When the Constitution was written, was it illegal to own cannon? Therein lies the answer....
  16. That's one thing I can say good about former MNPD Chief Serpas. When they called him about his son being stopped for a DUI he said "Why are you calling me? Do your job." and hung up on him.
  17. Not a cop, but I second the notion of practicing the 10 codes. Else you will do what I did and tell your boss to Signal 9 instead of 10-9. Fortunately he laughed it off and I got straight on the difference real quick!!
  18. A feeling perhaps? Or just being zealous? My point being is that asking might get a yes, and that could lead to actual evidence (unlike the baby spoon mentioned above). That is the way it was explained to me many moons ago. You said it gives you more information after you have a reason to search. Why not use it when you don't for the same purpose?
  19. Good to hear all those self-esteem programs have worked.
  20. Yikes!!! Now I need Mind Bleach!!
  21. Well I was hired to babysit the mainframe at a PD, but since 90% of it's work has moved, I now to get spend the majority of my time pretending to be the Hell Desk. I got my degree in Network Admin a month before 9/11 (did I mention I finished the degree while laid off?) so never got any certs and wound up in Property Management. And I know you didn't mean me specifically, I've just not made the best impression here lately so thought I would toss that out. @Fallguy I hear ya on not being tolerant of jerks. I think I am just old enough to not want to prove anything, but still young enough to not argue everything that comes along And yea, I get ya. Even IT geeks can do stupid human tricks and wind up fubar'ed
  22. That is pretty much my plan based on the layout of my house. The whole thing about handcuffs was mostly just about bolstering my defense and to a much lesser extent, being prepared just in case I did wind up with a prisoner.
  23. Based on my experiences on the Intarwebz, yes. FTR, I don't mean to come across as argumentative, it's just that I'm a socially inept geek at heart and unfortunately that comes across real well in text format.
  24. Sorry I did miss that distinction. You are of course correct on the HCP. I suppose we should clarify the situation we are talking about. If an officers stops you, then you have no choice. If he instead engages you in a voluntary conversation, then yes you have a choice. The difference is subtle and depends on the wording the ofc. uses. If he tells you to stop, stay where you are, or come here etc then you have to obey. If he just simply asks if you have ID on you or asks if he can see it, then you can choose how to answer. I still stand by my point that he is either just doing his job or being a jerk. Either way it will be over sooner if you go along. If you have nothing better to do, then by all means ask questions etc. I should say I am prejudiced on their side since until breaking a knee and ruining the other one, I was about to graduate with my Criminal Justice degree and accept one of the job offers I had on the table. Also, my current job is IT for a local PD.
  25. Only thing I can add to this discussion is shotgun pellets can penetrate apartment floors on occasion. Fortunately the 1st floor apt was empty at the time.... Never did find out what gauge, or how cleaning a "unloaded" shotgun caused a shell to magically appear in the chamber....
