  1. Sounds cool, what is Friedmans, a pawn shop? Is this a thread about regrets? I had a 380 Makarov that I sold, wish I still had it. Kind of rough but it was unique and I think I only paid 125 for it.
  2. As of about 11:30 Sat am Turkey Creek WalMart had 17 40-round white box 223 varmint for about $24 each. Did not see much else, but didn't look too close either.
  3. GT, I moved here from the west (guess where) 2 years ago. I have found it to be pretty gun friendly, but it has taken some getting used to. It is definitely a different mindset than the west, but I think that as stated above there are some good people here who understand that guns are not evil. The main difference for me was how I transported guns, in ID if they weren't concealed you were gtg, so I just piled all of the guns and ammo on the seat when I went to the range. Also the permit here is for handguns, where I was used to a permit for weapons. In ID I worked in a bar and I know people with permits who carried in there. They were not drinking so there was no violation of the law (and there was no blood running in the streets.) I think you will find the gun laws here ok. You have already found the best place in the state to learn and meet people. If you are a newcomer to the area, TGO rocks!
  4. Thanks for the replies, actually I was talking looking at 223. On the rvow website they say: "They are inspected, and all run through a set of draw dies to insure roundness and proper diameter." Would this be sufficient? Are they using different terms for the same sizing process you mentioned Jason? Thanks
  5. I have been thinking about buying some pulled bullets from rvow.com and I saw the comment in the thread about reloading 9mm. So, does anyone else buy pulled bullets in bulk for reloading? Do you ever have problems with shape/size as mentioned by Glockster? Glockster - have you had success using pulled bullets from other places, or do you always buy new now? btw, I will be loading blasting/plinking ammo, not expecting match performance. Idaho

I thought they have had these for a while. Heavy Weight Clear Plastic Knife
  7. Sounds like Jimmy is #1 in a #2 business.
  8. If you are using a die that puts on a roll crimp, your results will be more dependent on the length of the case as mentioned above. I understand some of the Lee dies apply a taper crimp at first and then a roll crimp if you tighten it down further. You don't need the roll crimp so I would try backing of the crimp die. I think I got tired of messing with it before and bought a taper-only die and it solved my problems. It is more tolerant of variable length cases. (btw my first suggestion was to be sure that the size die is all the way down and that you are not belling the cases any more than necessary to get the bullet in, but it looks like you already addressed those.) 9. Is that a handgun carry permit badge in her right hand? Idaho
  10. Are you using carbide resizing dies? They should not need case lube, but if you are using older non-carbide dies you will need to lube the cases. I always used carbide dies and never had a problem. I have read that some people use a little lube even if they are using carbide dies. One thing you might check is the size of the flash hole. I did have one brand of brass that had a flash holes so small that the depriming pin would get stuck in it. You might try resizing a few without the depriming pin and see if that it the problem. 11. I was at a USPSA match once and I saw a man with a scowl on his face and a blue hand, carrying a glock by a pencil through the trigger guard. You guessed it, his wife lost it in the port-o-potty and he had to fish it out. Good thing it was a cold range. Idaho
  12. I buy from Walmart. You can do whatever you want with the song, as long as it is just for your personal use. They did have a download utility that you install on your computer, but it does not have anything to do with the licensing or playing of the file after you get it. I think they have an alternate download method that does not require the utility. From their website: ******************* What You Can Do With MP3s From Walmart MP3 Music Downloads There are no restrictions on the number of devices or computers you can copy MP3 files to, or the number of times you can burn MP3 files to CD. Please note that all Walmart MP3 Music Downloads are for personal, non-commercial use. For more information, please see our Terms of Use.
  13. That is the way mine works (might be the same one). You just insert your checks, it scans them and displays the check and the dollar amount. It then asks you to confirm the amount or provide the correct amount. When it prints out your receipt there is a picture of each check right on it.
  14. What I don't get is that the drug problem in Mexico is due to the demand problems here in the U.S., but the gun problem in Mexico is due to gun supply issue here in the U.S. Why are we responsible for all of these problems? If O is going to take the blame for the guns, then he needs to put the responsibility for the drugs on them.
  15. I don't know what you guys are talking about. He is clearly commenting on his desire to convert his new gun to a single shot, as it will be safer for his neighbors and more politically correct as a home-defense option. - Idaho
  16. DaG, I did see a guiy there that had powder and primers, didn't look at the powder prices but he had large pistol primers for $29.00/k. I just bought some last week at Gander Mtn. for $39. I thought the stripped lowers I saw were priced high, but the fact that there seems to be more available at the shows is a good sign. Idaho

FNandGolck, I should also add that I was not trying to make fun of you or your experience/qualifications/craftsmanship as a gunsmith. Just saying that I would take your word on the experience you listed over the paper any day. My statements were not meant to be an attack on you. Good Luck

    New Gunsmith

Sorry, I thought I was on topic. My intention was to provide commentary on the fact someone can "Order Your Course Below! Get your Certificate this month, and start earning significant extra income next month!" from here: > PSU? http://www.becomeagunsmith.com/orderhere.html for $99. From the website: "The Gunsmith Certificate covers basics such as trigger jobs, barrel balancing/shortening/enhancing, scope mounting and sighting, and numerous basics. If you have even the most basic knowledge of guns, you can have your certificate in a matter of weeks! This certificate opens countless doors, from your State business license, Home FFL, wholesale firearm purchasing, to police and military contracts. One of our grads is making over $200,000 extra a year just customizing pistol-style AK's. Another is making even more specializing in accurizing pistols and rifles for friends, family, clubs and neighbors. Only minor tools are needed for this business." As a consumer I would not be happy if I selected a gunsmith to perform work based on the fact that they were certified and later found out that this is what they were talking about.

I am not a gunsmith, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
  20. To the OP. One possiblity is a primer that was not seated completely. If the primer is not all the way in the pocket it will move forward when the firing pin hits it. This results in the energy from the firing pin being used to move the primer instead of denting it. For the second strike the primer will be held more firmly and the firing pin energy will compress the primer like it is supposed to. I realize that this situation is probably more likely the issue if it was a reloaded case or an inexperienced reloader, but just something to consider. I have seen it before (I was the inexperienced reloader.)
  21. I own one and would do it again in a heartbeat. I think I paid 180 used with 2 mags. I use it on a Kimber Gold Match and it is the perfect tool for practice with a primary gun. It seems to me that I have heard some people have problems with certain ammo, but I have never experienced it. I buy the cheapest 550 packs at Wal Mart and they shoot just fine. Idaho
  22. I'm old school, but I would take 8 60 watt bulbs over 16 40 watt bulbs any day. People who can't properly illuminate their surroundings with 8 bulbs should not be carrying around 16 bulbs. That just promotes indiscriminate lighting situations that can be dangerous for bystanders. Idaho

I am by no means an expert (didn't even stay at Holiday Inn Express last night), but I thought it looked like one of the newer models made for the commercial market. It is hard to tell from the picture, but I was thinking pinned barrel. How about sharing the full text of the markings and the first 6 or so digits of the serial numbers? Like I say - no expert here, just comparing the pictures to one I own and what I see on http://www.yooperj.com/SKS.htm. The page has a lot of info about the different models. Idaho
  24. I don't know why I fell for that coupon trick again. Everytime I go there I just stand there and think "is this a joke?". The only 223 they had when I got there was $22+ for 20 rounds. They had 0 12 ga. slugs or buckshot. I think I finally learned and won't fall for it again.

RISC, I am in the exact same position as you. I picked up a similar gun for a good price a couple of weeks ago. I can't decide to keep, sell, or trade. I did some checking online and I think that mine was made for the commercial market and imported without the bayonet or lug. Keep in mind that your bayonet may not be 'lost', but may have been removed as a condition of importation and it may be illegal to put one on it. Let us know what you end up doing. Idaho
