Here are a few duct/duck tape uses - some are no brainers - but it does not hurt to refresh the brain one in awhile. Catch flies and mosquitos Flies and other insects can be annoying and, at times, can spread dangerous by spreading diseases. Sometimes it’s easier to get rid of flies instead of continually swatting at them. Place down strips of duct tape sticky side facing up. The flies will land on them and be trapped. Short-term auto hose fix Until you can get to your mechanic, duct tape is a dependable and strong repair for broken water hoses in your car. By no means is this a permanent fix. Duct tape will usually only stand up to 200 degree temperatures. Duct tape can also not be used to repair gas line leaks. The gas will dissolve the duct tape adhesive. Temporarily hem your pants Need to make your jeans a little shorter but don’t have a thick enough needle to pierce through the material? Fake it with duct tape! Fold up the jeans to where you need them and apply the duct tape to the inside of the pant. It should last through a few washes too! Keep a secret key One of the great things about duct tape is that it can stick to nearly anything. You can use it to keep an extra key under your car, in your yard or some other secret place. Roofing shingle If you have shingles missing and you know a storm is coming, you’ll need to act quickly. Place duct tape around a piece of ¼-inch plywood. Wedge the plank into place and it should repel storm water until you can get it repaired properly. Make clothes waterproof We’ve all seen people make purses and prom dresses out of duct tape. But one of the great things about duct tape is that it’s water resistant. You could repair waterproof clothing and even create your own line of waterproof clothing. Extra insulation Make your shoes or boots a little warmer by taping the inside of the boots with duct tape. Place the shiny side of the duct tape towards your feet and it will reflect the heat back towards you! Repair tent poles Have a busted tent pole or fishing pole? Quickly and easily repair it with duct tape. Make rope Stick one edge of the duct tape to something, pull out long pieces and then start twirling. You’ll create a sturdy piece of duct tape rope in no time! Make/repair a boat I remember in high school physics class we were assigned to make a boat purely out of cardboard and duct tape. (I’m proud to say that we passed with flying colors!) Like we’ve mentioned above, duct tape is a great waterproofing material. You can repair small holes and leaks in a boat. Protect yourself from ticks If you’re out hiking, working in the yard or just have a lot of ticks around the house, strap some duct tape around your pant cuffs to keep those blood suckers out! Cracked toilet seat Now, this might not be a life-or-death situation, but it can seem dire. If your toilet bowl seat is cracked, you can repair it with duct tape to give yourself a temporary relief and solution to your toilet troubles. Homemade band-aid Have a smaller cut but no band-aids? Simply use a piece of duct tape to strap across your sore! Create a splint or sling Use duct tape and a solid object to prevent your broken arm or leg from moving too much. Don’t tape too tightly though, you don’t want to cut off circulation. You can also make some duct tape rope with duct tape padding to create an emergency sling. Make a spear Tape an arrowhead or shard piece to a stick and you have a spear ready for hunting and helping you find that perfect emergency dinner.

Survival Foods and store recommendations

This is one of the helpful posts from the ready store Plastic bags can become a great multi-use item because they are so cheap and plentiful - Instead of just throwing them away, use them again and again for gardening, to make rope, make clothing and more - Clean off Car Mirrors If it snows, you’re going to have to clean off your windows. However, sometimes it’s hard to get your scraper on the small mirrors of your car. If you know it’s going to snow, tie a bag around the mirror and remove them in the morning. No ice to scrape off! Fuse Plastic Together If you fuse plastic bags together they become more sturdy and durable. You can then use the plastic sheets as you would a cloth and make bags, clothes, etc Keep Steel Wool from Rusting Next time you have to use steel wool in water, throw it in a plastic bag after you’re done. This should keep it from rusting too much. Keep feet dry You can use the plastic bags as shoe covers in the event of rain Treat Chapped Hands Rub a thick layer of petroleum jelly on your hands and wrap them in a plastic bag. Your body will heat up the petroleum jelly just enough to soak in and relieve any cracks and dry spots. You’ll have supple hands in about 15 minutes. Not that we want soft supple hands, but the ladies do Line Cracked Vases Thinking of throwing out that prized vase because it has a crack from top to bottom? Don’t do it! Simply line the vase with the plastic bag before you fill it with water. Then you’re free to add flowers in the top and not worry about cleaning up a mess. I dont have any vases, but someone does. -
Has anyone hit the Knoxville Gun shows lately (there is one at the Expo center tomorrow) I have been avoiding them as I have heard it is a MADHOUSE !! I just want to go back to browsing the tables and enjoying the atmosphere.

Thanks, I am doing a search now to see if I can find out any information on its value from its serial numbers and such. I am hoping to help this guy out as he is not a gun guy at all.
-
Thank you for the input - I am actually going to help the guy sell it. He ended up being a friend of a friend and I want to help him get as much as possible. I went and saw it last night, and it was fantastic. No rust, or stock marrings at all, very light useage marks. I need to help him find a magazine now. It has a wood stamp under the buttplate and I grabbed serial numbers as well. I need to see what its worth....and the quest begins...........

The asking price was 250.00 and that seems fair. I like to be sure that the rifle can fire, and has been fired. Since I am not familiar with this model and do not know what else to look for, I may just let her go. I appreciate all your advice gents. Semper Fi Joe

Thank you, that was my first response as well. Too many unknowns with that
-
I just found out that it does not have a clip - the seller had stated that one can be found for 50.00? Are they hard to find, and or install? I am pretty capable but I am no gunsmith

Oops sorry to the Swiss for that one - thanks for the correction and the helpful information

I was hoping to pick your brains on this rifle (Schmidt Rubin model K31 or K11). I have found one for sale, but do not know anything about them. It looks to be in good condition from the pics. I was hoping to get an estimated value as my books dont go that far back. What I have found so far is that it is an accurate rifle made by the Swedes. I appreciate any useful help that can be given. I do not seem to be able to attach any pics to this message for your review.

I hope that you all find this helpful. I have found that there are various prices and quality of foods out there in the world. I have purchased from many websites and stores, and I would like to share the trust worthy ones that I have used. I hope that you all will share your trustworthy sites too. This company is having a bucket sale - normally I do not buy anything unless I see that it is discounted 20% or more. Unless of course if I need it now. I have seen this website have sales up to 50% off on certain things. I signed up and get their daily or weekly emails announcing their sales. They also send helpful "how to" tips. http://www.thereadystore.com/on-sale/weekly-promotion/

Very true there Vontar - there are some natural herbs that can be used as well. I keep Sea Kelp pills in my kits too.

Thanks - I change my supplies when I find new applicable items. Such as unscented feminine pads and tampons to the first aid kit - they work extremely well for wounds. Oak Ridge, yes....fun times indeed. I used to work out there - the green glow is disconcerting at night, but helpful :ugh:

That is the long term bag - it weighs in at around 60lbs. I have three other bags of varying size and weight. They are all very similar, but of course not exact. I have extra ammo in the bags for whatever gun is attached to it. I also have a two piece Cold Steel blowgun with hunting darts. This is good for small game and it very light, accurate and powerful for what it is. One thing I like to keep in mind when planning a route to where ever I am headed. You may have to stay off the main roads, you may have to walk thru difficult areas. If you are buggin out, there is a reason, and the main road can be blocked or a place where you dont want to walk.

I have the SAS survival manual, IFirsrAid, Easy Home remedies and Wikihow on my Iphone - I also kept a mylar bag that a hard drive was shipped in to store my Iphone in. I am unsure if it will be enough protection from an EMP. I do not have the ability to test this scenario.

I have purchased Mountain House as well as Provident Pantry - I regularly use - http://www.thereadystore.com if you sign up you get some coupons and they send helpful tips on survival, http://beprepared.com, and http://www.sportsmansguide.com - TSG has been providing me with all sorts of items for over 20 years. I have some Wise buckets and have tried the Pasta Alfredo - they are easy to carry and the food is edible. They taste better than MRE's but are not as good as Mountain House or Provident Pantry. I would recommend you get some packets to try. They sell them in various sizes so you can try em out.
