My mother smoked for 50 years; cancer found in her right lung in 2004. Brought her to Nashville from Chattanooga for surgery; they took the lower lobe of the lung. Then she had three months of chemotherapy; Mom was sick as a dog and lost all her hair.
It is a humbling thing for a son to shave the last of his mother's hair off her head . . .
Mom has done well, but the cancer reoccurred in November of last year. A lymph node was taken out in January of this year and then 25 days of radiation treatments in February. She was sick and weak from all of that, but is now doing better.
The point of my story is for you to remember her experience.
If you stop smoking, may it NEVER be your experience.

I had a friend who checked his Browning 9mm, which was "lost" upon arrival, never to be seen again . . . ship it to yourself. Don't take the chance!

If anyone with a S&W wants a trigger job, their custom shop did an EXCELLENT job on my 686 and it was not expensive at all.

I have a 12 ga Franchi shotgun from the '70's that belonged to my deceased father. The gun is totally "locked up"; you cannot open the breech at all. Any ideas on what to do? I plan to see a gunsmith and see if it can be opened in preparation for selling it.
Very, very hard to sell your Dad's guns . . .

I am in the process of selling some of my late father's firearms; the ones I do not wish to keep.
Hard to do . . .
My dad had a Win Model 100 .308 that was supposed to be sent back to the factory for modification; I think it was a firing pin issue. Dad never sent it back. My question is: is the gun safe to sell? I will NOT put anyone at risk.

I could tell you were not going to throw a gun at her and let her go; if you are inclined towards a handgun for her, take her out and let her shoot a .22 and graduate up to a .38. If no comfort level for her in a handgun, go for a 20 ga. shotgun; single or double

If your Mom has NO facility with firearms, buy her a 20 ga. double barrel; short barrel and SHOOT it with her until she is comfortable with it.
Unless your mother - unlike mine - is willing to invest the time to practice placing a good shot, a shotgun is better self protection for her than a handgun.

Thanks. Your response supports my belief about the SP 101; is my main carry weapon and is the one I have trained my wife with.

Unless you have some experience shooting a semi-auto and changing magazines, go for a revolver. I would recommend an SP-101; I don't mind carrying a larger revolver, so I carry a SW 686 2.5.

Just wanted to say hello to all; newbie here!
Native Tennessean, home is Chattanooga but I live in Nashville. Grew up with guns all my life, love to shoot about anything, and am trying to get back into deer hunting this year.
