  1. A fluke tester? Can you get them for bluegill? This was a crime of opportunity. You have to make sure they don't get the opportunity.
  2. We actually got a little rain yesterday. Boy, we needed it. Now if we could get another 15 inches or so maybe the grass would grow again. There is a dirty joke here, but I'll let it go.... Some years ago I took up snow skiing so I wouldn't hibernate in the Winter. But skiing is pretty iffy around here and when I cracked a couple of vertebrae in a truck accident, I decided that the ability to move was more important than the ability to ski. So I gave up the activity. Besides, snow is cold. Frozen water belongs in and around drinks. I'd much rather take clothing off than add another layer. Some of the most fun I've had in life involved taking off clothing.
  3. My mama tough me to that is is polite to remove my hat whenever I enter any building. I don't always do that these days. I'm not always as polite as I used to be.
  4. OK it's me. You know I can't agree with you guys. I hate cold weather. I've been threatening for years to go to Acapulco for the winter. You guys can enjoy freezing your gonads off if you like. I hope it's 80 degrees in February.
  5. Unfortunately, many of the disturbed veterans at the local VA center do wear boonies. Of course, I love them too. Wore one in to see General Abrams once in Saigon. I'll let it go at that.
  6. Hey Urse, I'm a professional gun toter. I've not only been shot at a lot, but shot. I used to carry a Glock for urban use until I realized that it is a questionable design. We've gone over that. It isn't hard to understand. That's why I carry one of my H&Ks or a Beretta 92 on my side - professionally. Glocks are adequate duty weapons for LE, but there are better duty weapons. That silly challenge to Tungsten does sound like bloviation that Yeager would do. That's not a complement.
  7. Len, I have a suggestion for you. Why don't you get an appropriate cap to wear when you have to get out of your car before retrieving your carry gun? You could eve wear it into your office and irritate the stupid. It would be better if you could wear a H&K cap, but a Glock cap, though obviously inherently inferior, would probably do. Actually, I'm not kidding about the cap thing. Wear the cap and look them in the eyes and I doubt you will ever have a problem. And a Glock cap would be better than a H&K cap. Thugs probably don't know what a H&K is.
  8. Len, we are going to have to get you deprogrammed. Profiling is like stereotyping. It may not be "nice" but it generally has an element of truth. It's just one of the sensible techniques we use to stay alive. You need to send your story to all of your Democrat political friends and suggest some sensible changes in the gun laws.
  9. I'm not a member of any organized religion. I'm a Methodist.
  10. Hey, the shop I was in yesterday has some Lorcins and Ravens for $100. He'd probably take less. Something for the price conscious.
  11. I dropped into a local gun store yesterday just to keep from working. You know how that goes.... Anyway, the owner knows I love the little P3AT. He had sold the last one he had this weekend for a whole bunch more than it should have cost, but that's another story. A guy came in and bought a P-11 and we started talking about holsters. This was a casual day, although I was in a military T, so there was no need for the USP 40 on my side. I had the Kel-Tec IWB. Showed him my Don Hume IWB holster and he liked it. Then the subject of spare magazines came up. The shop had a P-11 magazine and I casually mentioned that I had a spare P3AT magazine with the finger extension that I didn't care for. I explained that when I carried the gun in my back pocket holster, the extension made it harder to draw the weapon. The flat baseplate worked better, but I couldn't find one when I needed it, so I had to get the finger extension one. The one-round extension for the magazine has the same drawing problem for inside pocket draw, BTW. Just something to keep in mind. Then we spotted that he had a loose flat base magazine labeled for the P3AT in his case. Asked if he wanted to trade it for mine since it had never been used, just loaded. He agreed and I proceeded to try the magazine he had in my handgun. Fit perfectly, of course. So, I unloaded my old magazine and started to load the new one with my rounds. The first round went in and then jammed tight in the case as I tried to load the second round. Had to disassemble the magazine to get the round out. Not good! We finally figured out that the magazine was for the P-32. They aren't labeled for caliber. There is a tiny bit of width difference in the magazine. I'll bet the P-3AT magazine will work in a pinch with .32 caliber ammunition in a P-32, but we didn't try it. He had some factory bagged P3AT magazines and we still did the trade, but If I hadn't already had those rounds in a magazine, I would have walked out of the shop with a magazine I couldn't use. So, this is just a warning to check the magazine before you leave the shop if it's not in a factory sealed bag. Even old farts - I mean experienced users - like me can make a mistake if they aren't careful.
  12. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I ran through Glocks and SIGs before settling on the H&Ks. Your mileage may vary. I ran through three other guns before settling on the Kel-Tec P3AT as a bug. You just have to try them till you find the right one for you. But price should be a less considered factor if you are really trusting your life to a handgun. Better to save for another month or two and get what you want.
  13. Yep, hard to imagine. I was primarily in the Highlands near the Cambodian border, west of Ban Me Thuot. But I got into Saigon on occasion. I worked with some really good people there. Learned a lot.
  14. H&Ks are a professional tool and cost accordingly. I'm not big on paying for a name and I won't do it. But two of my four duty/carry pistols have turned out to be H&Ks. That is because of performance that convinced me to spend the extra money for truly exceptional weapons. If they hadn't worked out functionally, they would have been gone from my collection in a hurry.
  15. Hi John, welcome to the party. I spent more time trying to dodge NVA than VC when I was in Southeast Asia.
  16. As I've mentioned, I'll be in Bristol at the Rhythm & Roots Reunion helping my wife sell jewelry on Saturday. If anyone gets up there, we are on State Street in front of the antique store, right at the mid-street crosswalk.
  17. Time to start a new topic. Back in Oak Ridge again for this one?
  18. I think Murtha is senile and out of touch with reality. I'm not joking.
  19. Unfortunately, the Republicans and Democrats both like to put their nose in other's business.
  20. I'm sorry, but I just thought this was funny. Of course it applies a lot more to the Republicans than it used to as well.
  21. I think so too. As far as supporting industry based in the USA, I agree. But that requires that people get paid what their labor is worth.
  22. I don't quite understand. Am I supposed to blame Wal-Mart for this?
  23. We keep getting into trouble about this public talk about "assault rifles". English is a growing language. When we talk in public about assault rifles, not one person in fifty thinks only of the FA rifles. I get to play with M16s and other true assault rifles, but I use the term all the time to refer to SA AR-15s and AK like rifles. And I don't apologize for doing so. The definition now includes such rifles. Gun folks need to understand that when they talk about assault rifles to the general public, they are talking about the "mean looking" SA stuff that is on the general market. If you talk about banning assault rifles, you are talking about banning the rifles that look like true assault rifles. I somethines get into trouble with my friends for defending the NRA because I think it is a group with some political savvy and common sense that is missing in some of the other pro-gun groups. But Jackson's statement is wrong on several fronts. If an NRA director can't keep his mouth shut on issues that will hurt gun owners, he shouldn't be an NRA director. And while on that subject, how in hell did the NRA board get bloated to 76 members? Actually, I understand how. It's a way to include more people of influence. I've been on such boards. I've always resigned when they didn't do anything but rubber stamp some paid person's ideas and policies. The NRA board should be 6 people who actually work rather than 76. But that's another topic. It would be helpful if one of you guys would post the letter that may or may not have come from Harris. At least post a synopsis of what was said. Otherwise those of us not on the mailing list are just having to guess whether it was a reasoned response or not. I don't like fumbling around in the dark. Even I use a light when clearing a house. A little more light here would be appreciated.
  24. Actually, the Founding Fathers intended that the Senators and Representatives represent the states. If the individual states wanted their Congress Critters to represent the vote of the people, then so be it.
  25. BTW, I caught the "librarian" reference. Just didn't mention it in the heat of battle. Actually, I retired from the library board. I'm about to resign from the cemetery board and then I won't belong to any civic groups or public boards. Incidentally, I'm sorry Titan Scout left. I was looking over at the GetOffTheX board and Titan started a thread about how much he hated Michael Vick. We certainly agree about that.
