  1. OK!!! Had a minor shower earlier that allowed a cigar and beer on the porch, but no thunderstorm. But...right now the storms are forming on top of us and thunder is all around. Looks like a good evening.
  2. Boy, you guys do love yourselves.... I'm not a HCP instructor, nor do I play one on TV. OTOH I do occasionally train military and LE personnel. So what's on my wall. Just a small shadow box that no one ever sees but me.
  3. Maybe she should have eaten a hamburger.
  4. Actually, McCain is coming up in the polls, especially in key states like Florida and Ohio. Not so much that he is saying the right things as that people are learning more about Obama.
  5. Good grief. I didn't know there was a required posting. Can I still smoke on my front porch during a thunderstorm?
  6. You mean there was something in Cary besides the Cary Tavern? I did enjoy pig pickins'. Whole split pig smoked at least overnight on a 55 gallon smoker. We had one at some apartment complex. Lots of beer, of course. One guy fell into the swimming pool. Unfortunately, the pool was empty at the time. I wonder if he is out yet?
  7. That's basically what they have at those two shops I mentioned in Johnson City. That's why I won't go there anymore. And I've bought a lot of things at those places before they posted. I think having patrons with loaded guns is just part of the gun business. Seems to me this is another "blood in the streets, if" issue. It doesn't seem to be a problem, except for people who chase away business by posting anti-carry gun stuff for their store. I won't go to a place where I feel insulted.
  8. Yeah, but some of those shots look like they have more testosterone than the guys.
  9. More and more states only honor your carry permit if it is a resident permit from your home state that they recognize.
  10. Mike, sounds like your mom's dish is a lot like something I do, except I add a can of pork and beans and serve it open-faced on toasted hamburger buns. Gutterboy, I never developed a taste for eastern NC barbecue, even when I lived in Raleigh. Of course Raleigh, as far as I know, has no barbecue places worth mentioning. I used to try the eastern NC stuff when headed up to visit my aunt above Newport News. I like a tomatoey sauce, but not too sweet and definitely not hot. Stamey's BBQ at the Colosseum in Greensboro is good. So are their hushpuppies. But their slaw sucks (vinegary & hot) and their Brunswick Stew is awful. Of course I may have a bias. I had a couple of cousins in the barbecue business south of Atlanta. I still use their sauce "recipe". You know the kind..."Take a double handful of onions..."
  11. Sliced (only) pork from hams (not shoulders) that doesn't allow much smoke flavor to penetrate the meat and served in a sickeningly sweet sauce to hide the lack of real barbecued meat flavor. The barely cooked fat streaks in the sliced meat gags me. I had to take apart my meal and trim out all of the fat the last time I ate there. The fat in good barbecue is properly rendered and not noticeable. Apparently, they have beef too. Beef is a substitute for real barbecue. I like beef ribs and chicken, but they are "barbecued" - not "barbecue." As one guy said in an online review: I disagree about the Firehouse. It sucks too. One local online restaurant review site has diners only voting Ridgewood 2 out of 5 stars. I'd say that's about right.
  12. A life worth living requires courage -- Grasshopper.
  13. Hey...I like that idea.
  14. I think the first thing my wife's divorce attorney asked her was if I had ever hit or threatened her. Fortunately, she is a person of integrity. We just had had enough of each other.... Still had to straighten out some language in our agreement. Divorce lawyers are the scum of the earth. They try to sneak in stuff even when their client doesn't want it there. If you don't really understand how to research the law, you need to hire better scum of the earth than your spouse.
  15. I think "Loaded guns must remain holstered" would take care of it.
  16. You just have to make sure you have the right friends with you.
  17. I'd certainly hate to see them naked....
  18. My menu last night changed from Chicken Cordon Bleu to beef taco, beef enchilada, and beef tostada. Friend called an bought me dinner at El Ranchito in Blountville. Chicken Cordon Bleu rescheduled for tonight. And don't worry Mike. The people eating at Ridgewood aren't eating barbecue either.
  19. Yeah, but are you man enough to shoot the neighbor's wife when she goes to the mailbox>
  20. Just as long as it has a hammer....
  21. Could you drop the gun and insert a naked lady? Just kidding.... BTW, Open Office is a free application. I'm using their version of Word these days, although I'm registered on Word.
  22. Sounds like a not so great outdoor store....
  23. Don't recall the name. It's on the old main drag near Snapp's Ferry Road.
  24. Most interesting person I saw in a gun shop was one fellow who had a brain tumor and sucked on those narcotic lollipops for pain relief. He brought in a 12 gauge pump and when he racked it, a round flew out and on the floor. I cocked my USP.... Funny thing, he was picked up after he left the shop for DUI just a few blocks away..........

    MRE

I always like the pork patties in C-rats. I hear that some cat food is pretty good too. I recently sold an old LRRP ration. I'd rather sell it than eat it - especially after about 40 years. Went through freeze dried stuff when backpacking. That's still a good way to go when you need to keep the weight down. MREs are not good at keeping pack weight low. But they are convenient and have improved over the years. Plus you can make some dandy bottle bombs out of the heaters.
