  1. I'd rather use a SmartCarry from smartcarry.com than that shirt.

Thank God we live in Tennessee where nobody cares if you buy more than one handgun per month. (=
  3. Got my Command Arms quad-rail forearm and vertical fore-grip today and got them installed. Doing so without an armorer's wrench was not easy, I need to get one of those if I ever decide to take the rails off. It took me and a friend almost 20 minutes to finally get them on correctly. Now I just need to get a backup rear iron sight, EOTech, and a tactical light for it and I'm set for whenever zombies attack... (= Before: After:
  4. Polymer stocked AK's look so much better than most of the wood ones. Now we just have to see if it makes it any difference as far as shooting it goes. (=
  5. A lot of people I know still won't hunt deer with a .223 out of habit. Until 2006, you were required to use at least a .24 caliber. I prefer .270's for deer, but that's just my personal preference. .223 is perfect for varmints. I'm planning on getting a second upper for my AR to hunt varmints with. A flat-top with a 4-12x scope will do the job nicely once I have the time to get it properly zeroed in. I'll probably pick up a skeleton stock to go with it so I can switch out my collapsible stock though.
  6. I want my stuff too man, but it's only been five business days. Which isn't so bad. And as cheap as they were, they probably make the savings in lower employee numbers. If it hasn't shipped by this Tuesday though, there's a problem, everything we ordered was in stock at the time of order according to their website.
  7. Unfortunately, the TWRA ranges do not have rangemasters or anyone like that to sign off on targets. You can often find yourself being the only person there. I honestly don't know of anywhere to go with a public range that would have an NRA certified range master, except for maybe the indoor range in Sevierville.
  8. For carrying in church, if it's good enough for the preacher, it's good enough for me. My girl hates it when I carry a gun at home, but since I had a home invasion in my old apartment, I'm a little paranoid as a result. Occasionally I'll take it off and put whichever pistol was on my hip in my computer desk drawer, which keeps it close, yet gives me some peace of mind. I've always operated on a simple principle with carrying a handgun at home, my handgun will let me fight my way to my rifle. Even if I only have to go to the next room.
  9. I have one very similar to that, and my 4-Rail & vertical fore-grip are somewhere between here and the shipping point right now. Optics and a good three point sling are next for me, probably an EOTech of some flavor for the optics, I'm still shopping for a nice 3 point sling.

    AR, AK?

+1 for the M1 Carbine since the CMP is about to get a horde of them for the army to sell to deserving civilians at what we hope will be reasonable price points.

    AR, AK?

To correct something way up towards the top, Mosin-Nagant's, SVDs, and Dragunovs shoot 7.62x54R, not 7.62x59R. AK reliability is without question. But unlike a lot of people, I would not get the 7.62x39 chambered AK-47, but the 5.45x39mm chambered AK-74. The 5.45 round is more to my personal liking. However, I have an M4. I'll stick with what I've got right now. If an AK shows up in the closet... well, I can always think about it some more until I have to decide. (=
  12. I use Meprolight's on my XD Service, that said, if I could do it all over again, I'd have gotten Straight 8's or Big Dots. When the Meprolight's fade out on me and have to be replaced, it will be Straight 8's or Big Dots replacing the faithful Mep's.
  13. Well, you're on the other side of the state from me, but Wideners here in Johnson City (www.wideners.com) has a ton of different ones.
  14. Am I the only guy who uses Meprolights on their XD? I had my installed a month or two after I got mine because I wanted tritium sights.
  15. Situational awareness is everything. Congrats though, a little late considering we were fixing to go to the range when you got it in the mail. (=

    walter p99

I've got 6-7k rounds through my abused as hell XD-9 Service. Dirt, grit, not being cleaned, my limp wrist prone father, and wearing it in a thigh holster while crawling around on sand and dirt at a scoped rifle competition one weekend and the XD has never malfunctioned on me. My magazines have all been dropped several times onto dirt while doing speed reloads, hell, the gun itself got dropped a few times when I was teaching a friend how to shoot it. It keeps on going. Glock makes a fine set of weapons, but they feel wrong in my hand, so I don't carry one. Now, if I were to change my carry gun, I might consider an H&K USP Compact .45ACP since the Johnson City PD carries fullsize USP45s. (=
  17. I use Colt magazines in my Bushmaster M4. I prefer them, but the relatively inexpensive aluminum USGI's that Wideners sells for about $12 each work fine. I have some of those too.
  18. Alternative payment options would be nice. I'm still conducting a one-man boycott as much as possible towards Paypal due to their obscene anti-gun policies.

    TN HB 2225

Just to clarify, HB 2225 is not the correct number. HB 1143/SB 1885 are the correct bill numbers. There are several other similar bills that have been introduced, I've found about 6 so far on the Assembly's website. But the abstract of HB1143 is below. HB1143/SB1885: Authorizes person with handgun carry permit to possess handgun within the confines of a restaurant licensed to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises provided such person is not consuming alcohol while in the restaurant. *********** There's some other legislation some people might feel is worth pestering their state congresscritters about: HB2184/SB2143: Allows any resident, who has a valid handgun carry permit, to possess his or her handgun while within the boundaries of any state park. HB0132/SB0053: Authorizes persons with handgun carry permits to possess firearms in all public hunting areas, refuges, wildlife management areas, and national forests managed by the state. HB0067/SB0153: Prohibits employers and nongovernmental entities from prohibiting persons possessing a handgun carry permit from transporting and storing a firearm out of sight in a locked vehicle on any property set aside for vehicles.
  20. Byrd's in Jonesborough is where I do most of my shopping.
  21. You can, as long as you're comfortable putting all the small parts together yourself. A stock A2 upper kit runs around $450, and you spend another $100 or so for a stripped lower receiver from your local FFL. Supposedly, these guys have pretty decent kits, but I've never tried them. http://www.model1sales.com/ They do have pretty good prices though... Happy surfing.
  22. They were starting to get more inventory there at the end, but the fire just finished the place off. Gun stores & ranges have to be a single focus business from what I've seen. The communications business took too much time away from the range itself, which is why it fell into such disrepair and the smoke blowers quit working properly.
  23. Point Blank had an electrical fire a while back and will not be reopening. All their inventory was sold off the other dealers in town. The guys who ran Point Blank were supposedly considering buying some property further out and building a new range there, but I haven't heard anything concrete about that.
  24. Johnson City actually doesn't have any public ranges anymore. I go up to Scioto in Unicoi County these days. It's the only place I can afford to shoot at now that Point Blank is gone and my father isn't picking up the tab on a membership somewhere reasonably close to my apartment.
  25. I buy most of my ammo from a local place here in Johnson City. Wideners. They always have plenty of ammo in stock, and are usually fairly cheap. It helps being able to go to the store to pick it up and not having to pay shipping and handling, but they do ship to most places in the US. http://www.wideners.com/index.cfm
