  1. Rather than waiting in line here, I drove to Jackson to get my paperwork done. I think including the drive time I was done in about 2.5 hours. Probably less than that. Had I gone some where around here, I would still be in line. Where is this place on Union Extended?
  2. Loaded - do you have any good local places to shoot rifles that are actually Public, not pay a ton of money to go to MSSA and risk shooting yourself? My wife is worried about me going out there after the most recent incident.
  3. Like I said, I will be at RangeUSA on Sunday at 1 when the doors open. If you get there early (I will probably be in the parking lot about 12:50) I will be the one in the Patriot Blue Jeep Wrangler X. I look forward to seeing/meeting/shooting with anyone that wants to show up.
  4. Come on now, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are "living" documents. You can't expect them to mean the same thing today as they did back when the founders and framers of this nation wrote them. After all, words meanings change, and the people have changed too. It is time for our nation to become one with the rest of the world. The whole New World Order where everyone can live in peace if we just give up the right to defend ourselves. The world will be much happier if the average citizen doesn't have the ability to over throw the government. [/sarcasm] Seriously though, does it not seem to anyone else that the original framers/founders never really intended on the standing army being able to "oppress" the people? Today, we use the standing army/national gaurd as a police force against our own citizens though usually only when desperate times call for desperate measures - Think Post Katrina, The Memphis police strike etc.
  5. So are we shooting at RangeUSA on Sunday or are you all heading off to someones fun property? I, unfortunately, am limited to only about an hour at the range so the wife can do her work on the weekends but that might change soon enough.
  6. SSS - I would, but I am usually in there on Sunday afternoons, if I can get to the range. I have thought about applying with Scott for a few nights a week just to earn some gun money.
  7. http://www.armygear.net/ag/store/0003.html has 30 cal ammo cans for $4 + Shipping. The more you buy, the more shipping costs. You should try and find a local Army Surplus store.
  8. Didn't mean to speak out of turn their, Mars. Just trying to help some people understand where you come from. You are highly respected on the other board that we frequent (though since I have found this place through you, I tend to spend less time over there.) I will agree that Glocks have little safety factor when holstering and drawing. Then again, my 1911 has little safety factor too. I would like to see a decocker on the Glock, but since that isn't likely to happen any time soon, I will probably have to look in to your H&K USP when the funds become available again. Though I think an AR might come before that.
  9. So far I have permission from the Wife to go for a little while at least on Sunday. If something comes up I will let you know, but I plan on being there when the doors open at 1. I am usually carrying a Wilson gym bag with all of my gear in it. Just don't critique how bad my posture or aim is, I don't get to the range that often. It would be great to meet up with fellow shooters in my area. Looking for some one that likes to play cards/watch football and shoot. With two small kids, the wife and I don't get out much. (with out them at least.)
  10. Who is up for Sunday March 4th at 1 at RangeUSA?
  11. Mars is a staunch supporter of an external safety or atleast a harder/longer trigger pull. He prefers the DA pistols for carry to the SA with no safety. He is well entitled to his opinion and on most things I fully accept it and tend to agree with him. I personally think that a Glock can be a good concealed weapon, provided you train with it regularly and get good muscle memory to avoid the fateful slip of the finger.
  12. Congrats on taking the class. Now the longest part-the wait. It sounds like you got out of the class exactly what you should. The legal ramifications. Just remember. Every bullet you fire in a "fight" belongs to YOU!!! If an innocent bystander is hurt, it is YOUR fault, not the scum bag.
  13. That was a bit of the reason I like horizontal shoulder holsters. If the badguy comes up behind you and "gets the drop on you" you can shoot him through your clothes. Seriously though, as with all things PROPER training should always be had before carrying.
  14. Get a shoulder holster and be done with it. Just always carry there.
  15. Planning on going to RangeUSA next SUNDAY 3/4/07 if anyone wants to meet up.
  16. And this is Glocks fault? I don't think Glock recommends carrying a weapon with out a round in the chamber, I don't recall seeing that in my owners manual. I am sorry dude got shot, but he lived, and had he had one in the chamber, probably would have been better off.
  17. Personal opinion again, there is no other way to carry a firearm than condition 1. A gun that is not ready to be fired might as well be a paper weight or a rock. If you need it, you need it now, not in 2 seconds. All of my hand guns keep a round in the chamber, the rifles aren't even loaded because I have 2 small children and the safe isn't big enough to put them in.
  18. Gotta get me one of those Kel-Tec's but usually it is around 3:30 or so regardless of the gun or the holster. My personal thoughts are always keep your weapon in roughly the same place. Don't dink around with a bunch of different holsters. In a fight, you don't want to have to "remember" which holster you are carrying and where your gun is. You want muscle memory to continue to go to the exact same place it goes when you are training. This way there is no mistaking where your gun is.
  19. I put my money on Mr. Yeager. Personally, I choose to concentrate on the front sight all of the time I am shooting. I keep both eyes open and by concentrating on the front sight, I can still see the world around me, it might be a bit blurry, but I can see it and that is important in a fight. Keeping aware of what is around you. I am also trying out a technique of using my middle finger on the trigger while keeping my index finger "riding the slide." I have heard of people making quick target acquisition this way and being able to basically "point" at their target and hit dang close to where they are pointing. What is your take on that Mr. Yeager?
  20. I carry a G19 or a 1911 on a daily basis. The 19 is MUCH easier to conceal. I carry the 1911 for the grins of it because it is stainless and "looks pretty." The 19 is truly the conceal gun and the 1911 is when the cold weather permits the wearing of an over coat.
  21. Tungsten, I am with you. If I eat at an establishment that serves alcohol, I carry my browning knife with me in my front pocket with my wallet. This way, a punk wants my wallet, I give it to them while I am arming myself. Personally, I agree, the law should be changed. It is ridiculous that law abiding citizens cannot be trusted to not drink alcohol while carrying yet we can be trusted to NOT carry our gun into the establishment in the first place??????

Personally, except for the 1911, most of my guns are or will be in 9mm. It was the first thing I ever really shot, and the thing I like the most. Reason for sticking primarily to one caliber? I don't want to have to worry about which round I am picking up if I am having to reload a magazine in a hurry when (if) the zombie hoards come a calling. The Glock and Beretta that I own both have solid reputations. Do they have 1 shot drop? With the right type of rounds and shot placement, ALL guns can have a 1 shot drop. If you are shooting a doped up crack head in the leg with a .45 you will probably slow them down a good bit, but if you hit them in the heart with a .380, he won't be walking long.
  23. Welcome to the forum, enjoy your stay.
  24. All I can say Arch, is get to the range more. I like the feel of the 1911, and I don't think an extra mag takes up too much space to avoid carrying one. I don't like the way the Colt mags feed in my Springfield Mil-Spec so I am trying to get some more factory mags. I love the way the Glock carries, so I tend to carry it out more when I am going for high concealment. The Beretta has basically become a house gun since the wife likes to shoot it.
  25. Welcome from Western (the ugly part of) Tennessee. Been here relatively short time, but so far so good!
