  1. Hornady Lock-N-Load AP Progressive Press - MidwayUSA Anybody have thoughts on this? Any experience with it? I'm looking into starting reloading and this seems to have great reviews. Before anyone says it, I'm getting ready to order ABC's of reloading and read before I get started. Also, while I understand the idea of getting a single stage first, I really don't think it is an option for me. I plan to reload a lot of ammo and know that I will want a progressive shortly. I just don't have the funds to get both right now.
  2. I have a question for you guys thinking about SHTF scenarios. How do you balance the odds of something like this happening with the odds of it not happening. i.e. where do you put your money. Do you invest in stocks and have your money in the bank. Do you just put your money into land, food, guns and ammo? Having a bug out plan and making everyday financial decisions based on SHTF seem to be 2 different things to me. I would really love to be fully prepared, as I think it is at least a remote possibility, but I frankly have lots of financial obligations that come before buying a years worth of food and ammo. I currently live in a townhouse in the burbs. I would much prefer 50 acres in the country, but that just isn't possible for quite awhile.
  3. I actually completely agree. You have to remember though that everybody is still human. People make mistakes, and lots of people are hypocrites. I know atheists that are fine people, and I know people who claim to Christians that are just terrible. The reverse is true as well. One thing to keep in mind. A Christian who is "pushing" their faith on you is doing so only because they care about about you. If the Christians are right, then they believe you could be spending eternity in hell and they don't want that for you. If the atheists are right, well it doesn't really matter how other people act. Hence you don't get atheists pushing their beliefs on you.
  4. page 9-10 there is discussion to that point. as for changing our minds Jesus being the son of God, that wouldn't really be an adjusting of beliefs so much as removing the whole religion. I find that unlikely.
  5. Actually somebody in this thread was really angry about Christians changing their beliefs based on new information. You can't be pissed both ways.
  6. Apparently not. Upon further review, it seems that is speculation at best, much like the rest of this thread. Though from my reading it doesn't seem entirely impossible. I would guess that if anything it would have only been a change in thought on part of it, and not all. I apologize, carry on.
  7. first, off topic. Why are so many people saying this is a terrible thread how could you ever start it this is a gun forum blah blah. The news in the OP is actually pretty interesting, more than worthy of a post in the off-topic forum. sheesh. if you want to read about guns, don't go to the off-topic forum. now for the actual debate, which i found to be at least slightly interesting if not lacking anything to back up arguments from both sides. I personally see no reason religion and science can't peacefully co-exist. I don't think you can or should take the creation story literally, and to translate day to mean 24 hours in our current understanding is silly. There is no reason that any scientific theory can't fit within the bounds of the creation belief. You think it was the big bang, fine. Any reason God couldn't have started the big bang? someone suggested that people believing the bible keep changing their story as they gain new understanding. Isn't that exactly how science works? It was completely excepted that the earth was flat until it wasn't. It was accepted that the earth was the center and the sun orbited it until it wasn't. Believing in parts of evolution is fact. Things evolve, mutate, etc all the time. On the other hand it takes a lot of faith to believe we all came from a single celled organism. Science simply can't explain it. Even Darwin changed his mind about evolution before he died. There is no way to win this argument because both sides require faith. I'm equally confused by both sides that completely refuse to believe anything the other says is true. It seems much more likely to me that both are valid.
  8. Well I went to the gun show this weekend and came home with a Remington 700 SPS Varmint with a 26" heavy barrel in .308. I added a Swift scope on a recommendation of a friend and went to sight it in today. The scope was crystal clear even at the top magnification and the gun shot nicely. Just about the time I got it sighted in I ran out of ammo, so no pretty pictures of nice tight groups. Hopefully soon though. Still need a bipod, once I get that I'll post some pics of the whole setup. Now I'm gonna have to learn how to reload, so I can afford to shoot this beautiful gun.
  9. Honestly I wasn't very impressed with any of the candidates. RR may be for guns but he had no shot at winning this election. Wamp has been in Washington for far too long. He has lying politician written all over him. BH may not be our best choice, but he is better than the alternative at this point. I will be voting for him in November. People choosing not to vote because their perfect candidate isn't there is silly. That's how we end up with Obama in the White House. None of the Republican options were good, but they were all better than what we got.
  10. lol. not a huge fan of fine china. i was hoping someone had some insight. it "looks" like a nice scope, but as there is pretty much 0 information or reviews about them anywhere i think i'll pass. anyone have any thoughts on the Sendero? - You must be a member to continue!
  11. thoughts on this? - http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/gear-classifieds/45123-fs-8-32x50e-sf-riflescope.html is it any good?
  12. Not bad, but I think I want something higher power than 10.
  13. I hadn't really considered ebay. Just checked and there might be a few options there. Most of the Leupolds are still pretty steep, but there are few Nikon's that might be in range. good idea.
  14. no worries. i won't be buying it today or anything, i'm gonna keep looking around for a little while. If I come across a nice used Leupold that would definitely be my preference. As you said though, I think it would work great on my 22 after an upgrade. I just broke my arm 3 weeks ago, so shooting may be a little tough for a couple more weeks anyways. i think that sale on Midway ends at the end of the month, so I may end up getting it then if I can't find anything better.
  15. hmmm, i checked out those reviews on midway and it does seem like it might be an ok start for me. based on what i've seen and my budget, it doesn't seem like spending 300 will get me any more than that simmons. I suspect i'll want to get more like a 600+ leupold, but even getting the savage i couldn't afford that right now. I may get the simmons for now, and then save up for something really nice. Unless somebody around here has a good used scope for sale. :-)
  16. What type of magnification would you guys suggest? it seems 3-9 wouldn't be enough for me at 400.
  17. Bud's has them at about $560 with a scope. I suspect the scopes aren't very good that they come with. For that much I wouldn't even consider it.
  18. First let me say thanks for all the advice so far. I think the Remington 700 SPS Tactical from Bud's Gun Shop is what I'm leaning towards at this point. It is $563, and right now Remington has a $40 rebate going on. Seems like a pretty decent deal that would fit what I want. I still need to decide on the glass. So after a transfer I'm looking at $550 on the gun, that leaves around 300 give or take for glass and mounting. Any more specific suggestions on that? The Simmons Whitetail Classic from Midway that glockster mentioned is on sale right now for $125, does anybody else have any experience with that one? I was planning on spending more than that, but if it is a decent scope maybe I could save some money there and save up for a really nice scope later on. (I can envision myself getting a nice Leupold and spending more than the gun at some point, but not right now). Thoughts?
  19. I'm considering getting a new (to me at least) rifle. I have several rifles already, but mostly older stuff without scopes. stuff like mosins and enfields. I'm hoping to get something nice that I can shoot out a bit further, my eyes just aren't good enough to shoot iron sights past 100 consistently. I can hit paper sometimes at 200, but it's mostly luck at that point. I'm hoping to get in the 200-400 yard range pretty easily with this, and maybe someday further. From my reading so far the Remington 700 seems like a good choice, but there are lots of different options and calibers as well as obviously plenty of scope choices. 308 is what I've been thinking at this point, but I'm not set in that. What I'm hoping for is any suggestions as far as the different types/options of the 700, best caliber, and some suggestions for good scopes to put on it. If you'd like to argue for a different longer range sniper I'll certainly listen, but this is what I'm leaning towards. As for budget, unfortunately at this point it isn't huge. Has to be less than $1000, and would really prefer more in the 750-800 range. I know that's not much to work with, but I've seen them in the stores at 550 on the low end, so I know something exists in this range. Question is how good can I get for that. I could always leave room for upgrades down the road as well.
  20. Facts! You can't use facts, that's cheating. We're talking about guns here. We must get rid of those evil things.
  21. These are some great stats on crime in DC since the Supreme Court overturned the gun ban. Yet again guns decrease crime. Guns Decrease Crime Yet Again
