  1. We did not have 2 other conservatives running. Maybe 1. Wamp has been in Washington for far too long. Even without Wamp, I don't think Ramsey would have had enough support to overtake Haslam. Given the options, I don't see how anybody could not vote for Haslam. You can say you are holding your nose, but he is better than the majority of the people we generally get to vote for imo. Look at Washington. Is anybody there that you really want to vote for?
  2. +1 on the sniper mosin. also, if you can pick up a M1 carbine or a garand those are good options.
  3. if he didn't want to advertise the gun business, he wouldn't have posted the thread about them. i don't think adding the website is a huge advertisement. it just makes it easier for people who reading the thread to find the site.
  4. seems silly to need to PM a website. a simple google search reveals it is MohawkArmory.com - AR-15 Lowers for Less!!. If you want to support them get the word out.
  5. i have a mosin and enfield, and I've shot the mauser. If you are buying to shoot much, I'd suggest the mosin or mauser. the enfield design has headspace issues that required changing the bolt over time. If the gun you get doesn't have a good fit, it won't be reliable and potentially unsafe. I like mine, but it isn't something I shoot much. I like my guns to go bang when i pull the trigger, not 2 seconds later. between the mosin and the mauser, I really enjoy the mosin, but the mauser is a better gun imo. that being said, the mosin is great for the price. as noted above, it is much cheaper to buy and the ammo is cheaper as well. I voted for the mauser but the mosin is a good choice as well. make sure you pull it tight though, it has some kick :-)
  6. Thanks, so far i really like it. Took it to the range at lunch today and fired 50 flawless rounds. Everything worked as expected from a sig. Now for a holster. Any suggestions? I've been looking at the supertuck and MTAC. I suspect I'd be happy with either. Are there any others I should keep an eye out for and has anybody tried both that can give a recommendation?

  8. Well, I decided on the sig 226. Haven't had a chance to get it out to the range to test it yet, but I don't foresee any problems. Got the gun, case, and 7 mags for $450. I'm pretty happy with it.
  9. I saw a refurbed sig p226 for $450. Any thoughts on buying a refurbed gun?
  10. Well, the price limit isn't just arbitrary. I just spent about 2k on my broken arm and lost 500 bucks worth of stuff from the car break in. 500 is really about the limit right now, especially when you add in the cost of the HCP. All that being said if I got a great deal on something I may go over a little bit, it just can't go too much higher. It is a great gun, but I'm really not a big fan of shooting it. I mostly keep it around because it is a cool old gun. Also, finding a good holster for it would be at least sort of difficult. I looked into it, and everything I read were people saying get a "insert different gun here" holster, it's pretty close. That's not really something I'm interested in. So far during my searches and through fondling at guns shows, the following are probably the guns I'm most interested in atm. Taking into account the suggestions so far as well: S&W M&P Beretta PX4 Storm Beretta 92 Sig P229 - this is probably too expensive, but if I find a good deal on a used one I might go a little higher on it. as for the holster, i hear a good gun belt is very important. Any suggestions? Also, looking around the MTAC looks really nice to me. I think I'd like it. Anybody have one and care to share an opinion?
  11. I just don't know. Maybe I should try shooting one again. Something about how it felt and shot I just didn't enjoy. No huge problems, just not what I was looking for.
  12. I've been planning on getting a carry gun and my HCP for a long time now, but I've been putting it off due to the expense. Well, my car got broken into this weekend, and while it is not something that carrying could have stopped, it very much reminds me that anything can happen to anybody anytime or place. So I'm going to get on the ball and get this done. All that being said I'd like some suggestions as to what I should get. I've shot plenty and I'm familiar with almost everything. As a starting point here are my thoughts: I had originally planned on going 1911, but right now i'm leaning towards 9mm over 45 and i just can't wrap my head around getting a 1911 in 9mm. My reason for 9mm is simple. It is cheaper and has a higher capacity. I'm not worried about it not being enough. I really plan on practicing A LOT. I want to become as good as I can, and that means shooting a bunch. The 9mm is just more economical for doing that. Second, I don't really like glocks. I know, blasphemy, but i've shot them and it just isn't what I want. Third, this may be silly but i'd like it to either have finger groves by default, or interchangeable grips so that I can add them. I really prefer the way they feel. Finally, I'd really like keep it around $500. The budget is stretched atm due in part to the stuff we lost in the car. I also broke my arm last month and it turns out surgery is really expensive. So, now that i've taken away glocks and 1911's and limited you to $500, what do you have for me
  13. I'll be honest, I'm more apt to go to an old timer for advice most of the time. That being said, I suspect the young guys deliver their messages the way they do because they are sick of being called idiots seemingly no matter what they say. People go to war and fight and die for our country at 18. By 25 it is possible to have plenty of experience relating to the use of firearms. There are some things that you learn with age. There are some things you learn with practice. You may have more life experience, but if a 25 year old has spent everyday of the last 7 years doing something you haven't done in decades he may be a better source on that subject. Not every subject, but that subject. Note this isn't directed at you 6.8 AR, just general statements from what I've seen in other threads.
  14. well, had a fun time this morning shooting, didn't do that great though. too many variables at this point, but i think the ammo and the shooter are mostly to blame. Gotta get started reloading, the crappy ammo is just not good enough, and the match ammo is far too expensive for me. I didn't actually measure the groups, but i suspect they were around 1.5 - 2" at 100 yards. nevertheless i had a good time, and i'm really happy with the bipod.
  15. Only shot it once so far, and that was just getting it sighted in. I'm hoping to get some more shooting in saturday. I'll report back with pretty pics hopefully :-)
  16. I meant getting land for a new house instead of the current place, not in addition to. Currently I live in a townhouse in the suburbs right next to a major interstate. Not exactly ideal.
  17. pic isn't the greatest because it was just from my phone, but you get the idea. Remington 700 Varmint in .308 26" heavy barrel Swift 8-32 harris s-brm bipod
  18. That's awesome. I've been wanting one of those myself. Unfortunately bills from my broken arm keep coming in...
  19. I would really like something long range. Can I get something past 200 yards.
  20. Well, I plan to reload several types of ammo, not just the 308. That's just what I have the most interest in currently. I'll also be doing 9mm and 45 in the pistol ammo department. I realize it might not be top match ammo on the progressive, but it is still going to be better and cheaper than what i'm using currently. Right now I'm spending about a dollar a round on crappy ammo. i think the progressive can more than compete with that.
  21. yeah paying the bills isn't a problem atm, just trying to decide what to do with the excess. I think my biggest goal right now is going to be getting some land in the country. That fits very well with what I want in normal times as well as SHTF scenario. On top of that I may start stocking up some food and water as well. Or maybe a filter of some sort, as packing enough water to last a reasonable amount of time doesn't seem that feasible.
  22. anybody have any suggestions on dies for 308 as well?
