I'm into historic guns, so... Mosin Mauser Enfield Garand M1 carbine 1903 K31 p38 also on my list 1911 AR-15 AK-47 a revolver of some sort if we really want to spare no expense, a nice .50

What kind of ammo do you use in your carry gun?

Ok, so I don't like someone like him contributing to a shortage, kinda like the gas run we had in the fall. But I can't really fault him for trying to make money. This is really what free market capitalism is all about. Being an entrepreneur. Find something that people want and find a way to make money off of it. The demand for ammo is currently higher than the supply, so he can make a premium selling it. I really don't see TOO much wrong here. Sure the business license or whatever, but the idea of him purchasing it and then selling it at a premium I have no problem with. All that being said there is no way I would buy it from him...

Didn't grow up around guns / wasn't even allowed to shoot one. Now that I am on my own I have gotten a few guns, but I didn't own a handgun until this week. Reason for no HCP, well I didn't own a handgun, and now currently it is the money. I am saving up right now and when I can I will get it. Hopefully I'll have plenty of practice in by then and be confident enough to carry it. (of course, if I didn't spend so much on ammo I could probably save for it faster.)

well, mostly failed tonight, as Gun's and Leather was too far away for a weeknight. I was told Franklin has it, but they are closed on Mondays so I'll check there tomorrow.

I will be looking for 9X18 Makarov in Nashville later today. Anybody know where I can find some to make it easier on me? If not, I'll let you know the results of my search later. thanks

It's not the Gun's Fault, It's the CRAZY Guy Ok, so I am sick of politicians and liberal media trying to find someone or something to blame for all of the shootings recently. It's the guns. It's the NRA. The second amendment is responsible. His company shouldn't have fired him. My favorite, talk radio hosts made him do it. Stop looking for someone to blame. It's the FREAKING CRAZY GUY's fault. And oh by the way, the crazy guy is the reason I want to have a gun with me for protection. Stop trying to take it away. Ok, that's my rant for the day. I would just like to note a few things to all those that say we can't have a topic twice. 1. New things may have changed people's minds over time. 2. New people may have joined since the last thread that would have information to share. 3. This isn't google, the search is really pretty terrible. 4. who do you guys generally deal with around Nashville to do transfers for your online purchases? This will be the first gun I get online, so I'm not entirely sure what the process is or who is good to use.

I am thinking of getting a CZ82 from either http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Czech_CZ-82_9x18_Pistol.html or http://www.centerfiresystems.com/cz82pistolpartcz82-gun-sf.aspx The one from Aim includes a magazine holster, Centerfire is a little cheaper. 1. Thoughts on the CZ82 2. Has anyone bought from either Aim or Centerfire? how did it go, how long did it take to get the gun, etc.

Well, that is sort of what I thought at first. I couldn't find any stats on the subject when i searched, but i did find that approx 25 in 1000 (2.5%) are victims of a violent crime in a year. given the average life expectancy of ~75, that stat actually doesn't sound that far fetched. obviously based on where you live / the places you go is going to have an effect on those percentages, but 25% in a lifetime does seem reasonable. That being said, that is a bit scary. I need to get my permit....

I've looked at the CZ-82 and I think that might be a good fit as well. What does everyone think about the 9X18 Makarov round?

while i agree to a certain extent, that is more how i would look at my second purchase. right now i am thinking about being able to defend myself if the need arises. if that happens sometime before i can afford my dream gun, well then that isn't a very good solution.

Maybe I worded things a bit wrong. I want to get a handgun for self defense in the home and to carry after I become proficient and confident with it. To become proficient and confident with it, I plan on shooting it a lot. Just having fun at the range / practice wasn't really criteria as such, just something that I plan on doing. It wasn't about the fun, though I do enjoy it, I was just pointing out that the price to shoot a 9mm is much cheaper than say a .45. At this point I am leaning towards something like the S&W 5906. That looks like it accomplishes most of my goals around the price I can afford at this point. Probably in a year or so I will be looking for something nicer, a good Colt 1911 for 800 or something, but right now that just isn't an option. Thanks for all the input, more suggestions / ideas on where I can find good deals are definitely welcome. Keep them coming. That link to summitguns says he is currently out of the 5906 :-(
