  1. First day went well, our club president Michael Bresson had things set up nicely. We had a great group of shooters, hope to see another big turnout tomorrow. See you all on the range!
  2. Kevin I tried a green dykem dauber once on the headstamp and felt like it was to thick and would imped proper function and or buildup on the breechface. Plus I gave up on the idea of marking my brass as i'm usually too busy to pick brass at matches. Maybe the traditional red-blue is thinner and will work better for you.
  3. IC, LM, M are pretty common with IC being fine unless the shots are tight or waaaay out there. You can fire slugs thru a full choke without issue.
  4. Rickey You can sign up with GSSF the day of the match. I do reccomend joining online and registering for the match online @ http://gssfonline.com/ You will save $10 by doing it online in advance. There are a lot of GSSF competitors that travel all over the country hitting as many of these matches as they can. There are performance based and random pistol winners at every GSSF match. You can save even more by working the match, hint hint.
  5. Jeremy It was a pleasure shooting with you and your wife, glad you finally had a chance to come out and shoot with us. Saturday is a classifier match come out shoot that and get your IDPA membership so you can get your classification.
  6. I shoot both, usually 2 IDPA and 1 USPSA match per month.
  7. Here is the Course of Fire and Stage Setup: http://idpa.com/Documents/CoF.pdf http://idpa.com/Documents/StageSetup.pdf Go to idpa.com and get your membership, you must be an IDPA member to get a classification. Its not expensive $40 annual or $105 for 3 years. You can shoot the classifier but you will not get an official classifiaction until we have a membership number. Hope this helps let us know if you have any other questions.
  8. Yes there are two ranges with two different clubs there in Dickson. Music City Tactical Shooters (IDPA) and North Tennessee Practical Shooters (USPSA) IDPA is a spin off from USPSA in an attempt to be more "practical" IDPA is limited to more practical guns, concealment, cover, and 18 rounds max per stage USPSA has both practical and race guns, no concealment or cover and 32 rounds max per stage
  9. Yes I did the big popper, two small poppers, then the clamshell. This was about 1.5 seconds faster than waiting on the clamshell. It was the one stage that I won
  10. The heavier bullets are more consistent on steel, and to me have less felt recoil.
  11. You have to shoot a custom loaded 147 vs a factory 115 sometime it is a vast difference. Catch me after a match and I'll let you shoot some of my 147 loads.
  12. Hard to beat a 9mm 147 grain load for IDPA, the problems you saw were likely a combination of 115 grain bullets and low hits
  13. But you do need to join IDPA to have a classification, we will hold your classifier times for a bit if you have a pending membership
  14. Glad everyone had a good time, next match is an IDPA classifier. This will determine your skill based classification that you compete in, join IDPA and come back Feb 18th to earn your classification. After the classifier our next IDPA match will be March 17th. Look forward to seeing all of you back on the range.
  15. Comp-Tac, Ready Tactical, Bladetech for holsters in that order of preference for great competition gear. Here is the definition of weighted grips: Weighted Grips: Any set of grips that weigh more than two (2) oz. over factory standard weight for the model.
  16. The last time we set them up, we had one blazing fast and the other just smokin fast. You will just have to come out and see what we do with them.
  17. For an intro match we aren't going to be nazi's on gun division rules. For SSP (stock service pistols) the modifications allowed are pretty slim, but you can move to ESP (enhanced service pistol) that allows more modifications. On holsters a strong side belt holster either IWB or OWB no worries. There much better holsters for reasonable money than a Serpa but if thats what you have come on out, just dont shoot yourself or me in the leg with it, LOL. Here is a link to the IDPA rule book: http://idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf Equipment rules are on pages 17-27 Also for this intro / BUG match it is all going to be shot from a low ready position. So you dont even need a holster, just a case or pistol rug to transport between stages as there is no gun handling unless you are on the line to shoot or in a marked safe area. If you have a strong side holster thats great bring and use it but you wont be drawing on the clock for this match. Hope this helps!
  18. Here are the stages that I put together for this match: http://www.mctsclub.com/02042012_MCTS_Bug.pdf These stages contain the basic elements that you will see in a normal match. This is a great way to get started without the pressure of trying to figure out how to shoot a complicated stage. They are also setup to challange you if you wish to shoot it with a BUG (back up gun), that j-frame or Glock 26 is a whole different animal once you put the pressure of a clock on you. If you have been on the fence about trying competitive shooting then this is your perfect chance to get out there. Look forward to seeing you on the range!
  19. Scores are up! IDPA JAN 21,2012 Match Thank you John and Carla for getting those out so quick.
  20. Scores are usually out the evening of the match, next morning at the latest.
