It's a Gen 4. The first time I took it to the range, right after I bought it, I didn't get a single piece of brass in my face. But this Friday, it wore me out. Strange that it was so different, just a couple of weeks and 45 rounds later. I'm still leaning toward it being the way I was gripping it. But if it doesn't improve, I guess I'll have to contact Glock.

Yeah, the more I'm reading (probably too much -- over-analysis is something I'm good at), the more I'm learning how "picky" .380's can be -- and honestly, the less confident I am in carrying it at all. If I knew today I could trade it straight-up for an LC9 or an LCR, I'd jump on it. Unfortunately, I know that's not going to happen. But as I've said before, it's just so easy to conceal... I'd hate to have it sent back to Ruger again, having just got it back. But something will have to give... Thanks for the advice!

Yep, they are already gone this time around...

Thanks. It could very well be a magazine issue with the LCP. I just ordered a new 6-round factory mag from Midway USA, and if I had been thinking, I'd have "marked" the mags in some way to see if the jams were only happening on the new one. Maybe it just takes them a while to get broken in, I don't know. Sounds like the issue with the Glock 19 may indeed be the way I was gripping it. This is my first Glock, so I'm wondering, how do you go about finding a Glock Armorer?

I ordered one of the Hogue Handall Grip Sleeves tonight. If I'm still having problems after putting it on, I'm going to try the Galloway Stainless Guide Rod and Spring replacement and see if that helps. I'm determined to make this thing work -- it's just so easy to pocket carry when I can't do anything else. Although I wouldn't mind acquiring an LC9s... :D

Thanks. It's a Gen 2. I'll check out the Hogue grip.
-
Thanks. I'll check it in the morning.

I cleaned it this afternoon, and the spring looked fine. It had a few "jams" before (maybe 2 or 3 or so in about 120-130 rounds), but not like today. I'm leaning toward it being me...

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I figured whatever was going on with the LCP was my fault. I think I was so focused on the takedown pin issue that I forgot to watch my grip. I'll test it out next time I go to the range. I can live with the Glock 19 issue, it's not a big deal. Was just wondering if this was a common thing with them, not being too familiar with Glocks.

The first one has to do with my LCP. The good news -- the takedown pin continues to stay in place and not back out while shooting. The bad news - I'm having a lot of "jams." Just today, in shooing 52 rounds of Magtech and Fiocchi 95 grain factory ammo, I had about 4 times that the slide got stuck back because the round looked like it just failed to chamber correctly. I also had 1 time where a fired casing failed to eject and caused a jam. If I had been thinking, I would have stopped to notice if the problems were magazine-specific (I was using 2), but I think it happened with both of them. That many jams to me is unacceptable in a carry gun. Is this common, or is it something I'm doing? I don't have this problem with any of my other semi-automatics. The second question has to do with my Glock 19. I love shooting this gun, but it seems to eject brass back in my face -- a lot -- much more than either of my other 2 semi-automatics. Again, is this common, or is this something that I'm doing? Other than those 2 issues (and forgetting to put my ear protection on for the first shot with the 19 :shhh: ), it was a pretty enjoyable morning -- other than consistently shooting my semi's low and a little to the left, and my revolver high and a little to the right. But that's another post for another day. Thanks, as always, for helping out a newbie!

Can't even begin to tell. Just out of curiosity, what pocket holster do you use?
-
Wow, you're really making me want to check out a Shield...
-
My buddy bought one last Friday at a lgs. So they're out there periodically...
-
That's good to know. It wouldn't make any sense for the 9s to be any bigger than the 9. But stranger things have happened...
-
Yeah, if it's a little bigger than the LC9, it's probably out for me as far as pocket carry is concerned. A little bigger than an LC9 is up in my XDs 45 territory...

I received an email from Kentucky Gun Company this morning that they just got some in stock. I would LOVE to have this revolver (it's actually one of my dream guns), but unfortunately that simply isn't possible right now - and I'm sure they'll be out-of-stock again before it is. But I wanted to pass it on, because these can be somewhat hard to find. If I can't have it, I'd love for some of you to have a chance, if this is something you're interested in... http://www.kygunco.com/products2.cfm?id=28347

Got an email from Ruger today about this. The one major drawback I've heard about the LC9 is it's long double-action trigger pull. This new striker-fired version could be very, very interesting... https://ruger-hosted.s3.amazonaws.com/email/3235-SellSheet-Hf8E3P74Sa.pdf

No, but an SP101 with a 3" barrel is definitely on the short version of my wish list... :D
-
Overall, it was definitely more on the magnum -- just in a different way. I really think the exposed backstrap on the 442 made the difference and caused the pain.
-
Follow up shots weren't easier -- definitely had some flip and punch to it. But there wasn't any pain with the 357 mag load in the 640 like there was in the 442.
-
I had a chance Saturday to shoot a friend's little Taurus polymer .357 revolver -- not sure the exact model. Definitely had quite kick to it, and I certainly wouldn't want to shoot more than a cylinder full. But even THAT didn't physically hurt my hand like the 442 did. Something about that exposed backstrap I guess...
-
Yeah, I know... :D Honestly, if the 442 had been my only snubbie, I would have kept it and experimented with grips. But with the 640 around, it was easier to let it go to fill a caliber gap. I must admit, I do have a soft spot for my revolvers...
-
Yeah, I love snubbies too. I won't be parting with my 640 anytime soon. But I just couldn't handle even regular loads out of the 442. I had a chance to shoot about 45 rounds through the Glock 19 yesterday evening. I was prepared to be underwhelmed because of all the "Glock Hype" I've heard/read. But I can honestly say that I'm impressed. Very impressed. Probably won't be my last piece of "tupperware" with a "G" on it... :D
-
Well, I went down to my lgs today, and I decided to go ahead and trade the 442. But I didn't go with a "pocket 9" after all. My pocket carry options, between the XDs 45 and my LCP (which is on its way back into the rotation soon, I'm sure), are pretty well covered. However, I did still want a 9mm - didn't have one in my collection, and that gaping hole needed to be filled. So I actually went with a Glock 19 Gen 4. My first Glock. I actually expected it to not feel good in my hand, but it did. So for what it's worth, I bit. And I still have a j-frame in my 640. Best of both worlds... :D

Honestly, the 442 was an impulse purchase. At the time I was trying to ankle carry my all-steel 640 (Galco Ankle Glove). I could do it for about 3 days, and then my ankle would just start killing me. So, I thought I needed something lighter. Thus, the 442. Since then, though, I've pretty much given up on ankle carry except on very, very rare occasions. So the application I got the 442 primarily for isn't a need anymore. I tried pocket carrying it some, since my LCP has been "down and out" lately. That works OK, and I could continue to do that when I can't pull off the XDs 45. But honestly, I like the LCP better than the 442. So, my dilemma... Oh, and I have a Ruger GP100 for target fun too :D
