1. I don't currently own a 1911, but it's on my wish list.  Before I buy one, I plan to take a long hard look at the Ruger SR1911.  For the money, I think it might deserve some serious consideration.
2. Welcome from up the road in Athens, TN!
3. Just buy plenty of band aids, and you should be good to go...  :D  Seriously, looks very interesting.
4. Yeah, thanks to you guys, I'm finding a whole lot more of them than I realized were out there.  Problem now is that my savings account had taken a beating.  So many Smith's, so little money...
5. Very nice find, Patton! Yeah, Carmen said she doesn't get them all that often these days. That's why I just couldn't leave without it.
6.   Dave, what's the best way to remove the powder marks from the front of the cylinder?  That's the place when I clean my revolvers that I can never seem to get clean.  Thanks!
7.   Thanks for the comparison -- that was very helpful.  I've actually shot a friend's Glock 21 (probably a Gen 3) and felt like it was too big for my hand.  Didn't really enjoy it.  So, I think I'll probably pass on the deal.  Thanks again to everyone for the input!
8. Even though it looks like a good deal, I'm having trouble pulling the trigger on it, since I can't actually hold it in my hands and see how it feels first.  I have pretty small hands, and a lot of guns just don't fit me...
9.   Yeah, I've met Jeremy.  Seems like a great guy, and that's a very reasonable fee.  I'll definitely check him out if I go through with this deal.  Thanks!
10.   Wow, more power to 'em I suppose...
11.   The whole FFL process is completely new to me.  What would you consider a reasonably priced FFL transfer fee to be?
12.   So true.  I tried to carry a S&W 640 in a Galco Ankle Glove.  Great gun, great holster.  Love the all-steel Smith's.  Hate dragging around a boat anchor all day.  The only think I've found that works for ankle carry for me (when I just can't do anything else) is an LCP in a Galco Ankle Glove Lite.  I hardly know it's there.  Quick accessibility, though, with my limited experience, is extremely difficult.  But it works in a pinch.
13. Just wondering what y'all thought about this deal.  Look like a pretty good price on a 1911-looking pistol, a look which I happen to love.  And it's a Smith & Wesson.  But I don't know much about the gun.  Is this something worth jumping on (if I can persuade my wife), or not?   http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/1089/products_id/411554502/TEAM+BUDS+FAST+TRACK
14.   Whether the lock is big deal really depends on who you talk to.  Personally, I'm not too concerned about it.  There's been plenty of discussion about it over at the Smith and Wesson forum (and I'm sure elsewhere as well).  You might want to check it out and form your own opinion.  Congats on the 657 by the way!
15. A Smith & Wesson (or Ruger, for that matter) revolver.  Snubbie, 3 inch, 4 inch, doesn't matter.  My reason:  comfort level, reliability, and just sheer beauty.

that XDS recall

I'm thinking of adding both the XDs 9mm and .45 to my wish list.  One of the things I've read is that the trigger on them post-recall is pretty bad, at least until it's fired a few hundred times and re-broken in.  Just wondering what your experience has been in that regard.  Thanks!
17. I, too, am curious what gun shop in Chattanooga this is.  I live about an hour away and shop there sometimes, and I wouldn't want to deal with a shop that would feed me a line like that...
18. Hey, thanks for all the replies so far.  Definitely gives me something to work with.  Sounds like most of you custom order yours rather than picking them up at a local store.  I may check out Gander Mountain, see what they have, and then make up my mind.  Thanks again!
19. When I was looking for something to carry in my pocket, at least some of the time, I couldn't find anything that was as easily concealed at the LCP.  Get a good holster (Desantis, Alabama Holster, Recluse, etc), and it practically disappears.  I also carry it sometimes on my ankle in a Galco Ankle Lite, or on my belt with a Bulldog PDA Case.  The Bulldog is a little bigger than your typical cell phone case, but I'm a big enough nerd that I can pull it off...  :D
20. One thing I've learned pretty quickly in my journey into carrying a handgun -- I need to invest in a good gun belt.  I'd really like to get a couple -- one that's more dressy, and the other more casual.  And while I want something of good quality, I don't want to spend any more than I have to.  Just wondering, what should I be looking for?  And, is there a store in the Athens/Knoxville/Chattanooga area that has a good selection at decent prices?
21. Excellent!  Glad it worked out so well for you.  Enjoy that beauty!
22. If it's a 686 + and is in great condition, I'd probably pay $699 for a 3".  I've seen them for a lot higher on Gunbroker.  But it would certainly be nice if you could get them to come down a little bit.
23. So I went to Fugate's today to shoot the LCP I bought there last Friday. And I just so happened to remember what Patton said about Carmen having a S&W 640 last week. So before I left, I meandered nonchalantly over to the revolver case, and sure enough, guess what I saw. It's a terrible picture, but it looks something like this... And no, there was no way I could leave without it. Simply too beautiful. My wife was with me, and I guess my big, sad eyes made her feel sorry for me, and she actually let me buy it. That, and my promise to not by another gun for quite a while... :D By the way, thanks for the heads up, Patton!
