1.   I've heard of the Rami, but I've never seen one.  Honestly don't know much about CZ at all.  From what little I've read about it, it's probably a bit too big for my pockets.  But it's close.  Yeah, I get down to Chattanooga every once in a while - either to visit someone in the hospital, or to drop by Shooter's Depot.  Nice city - unless you're on I-24 at rush hour...  :D
2.   I saw that one in the classifieds.  Looks like your son got a very nice gun!
3.   Getting that way quicker than I care to admit... lol.  The XDs slide isn't really hard for me to rack, but you can't do it gently.  Every time I forget that and rack it like I would, say, my Glock 19, I end up with a jam...
4.   Thanks for the advice - I'll keep that in mind.  I've got a Springfield XDs .45 that's the same way.  If you don't get a good hold on it, including racking it like you mean it, it'll jam up for sure...
5. The best thing about this gun to me so far, in addition to the added weight to help with recoil over the LCP, the night sights, and the overall beautiful 1911-like look, is the hogue grips with the finger grooves that came on it.  They absolutely fit my hand like a glove and allow me to get a great purchase on the gun.  I'm looking forward hopefully to taking it out to the range Friday and seeing how it feels...
6. Made my first trip to Bud's in Sevierville today. Saw this in the used gun display. Had been toying with the idea of maybe getting a P238 to replace my LCP, but the new ones are so dang expensive. This one was priced right, had a few extra goodies, and I got a pretty good trade value on my LCP. Couldn't leave without it... :D
7.   I must admit, that is one beautiful gun...
8.   A Glock 19.  The 1911 wouldn't totally replace the G19, but just add another option.  I know, those are 2 totally different platforms, and that isn't ideal.  I'm just attracted to the looks of the 1911...
9. That's pretty much what I've found so far.  There are a few models that are *almost* pocketable, but not quite.  I really like the looks of the P232, but there's no way I'd be able to carry that in a normal pocket on a regular basis...
10. I know this is a completely different platform than my 1911 question, but I'm also intrigued by the DA/SA with a Decocker (like a Sig has).  Does anyone know of a model like this that could be pocket carried?  I've done a little internet research and found several models, but they all seem to be too big for pocket carry.  Thanks!
11.   Caliber is .45.  Price point is probably somewhere in the $600 range, maybe up to $800 or so.  I'd maybe be even a little more flexible on that for the right pistol.
12. I'm thinking about getting my first 1911.  It won't be carried all, unless I sometimes decide to take it with me in a Day Planner type concealment holster.  It will mostly be a nightstand/just plain fun to shoot gun.  I'm looking for the most "bang for my buck" -- I want a nice, reliable pistol, but I don't want to pay a premium price for my first one.  I guess I'm mostly interested in the traditional-sized government model, but smaller models aren't out of the question either.     I'm a relative newcomer to shooting compared to most of y'all here, so I'd love to get your recommendations.  You've helped me a great deal with questions I've had in the past.  So, which 1911's should I be considering?
13. I have a 19.  Only issue has been brass-to-the-face with 119 gr ammo.  But that's more of an annoyance than an "issue."  Otherwise, it has been absolutely flawless.
14. If the 3-inch j-frame is truly everything you want in a small handgun, but not quite suitable for pocket carry, I'd probably go with either a S&W Airweight, Ruger LCR, or maybe a steel j-frame with a slightly shorter barrel, like a 640.  Pretty close to the gun that's everything you want, and much more pocketable.  You might also try the new LC9s - I hear the trigger is much, much better than the old LC9.
15.   Thanks.  Y'all help me out here.  How will changing the Recoil Spring Assembly eliminate BTF?
16. I sent an e-mail to Glock Customer Service last week, describing my problem and just asking their opinion about the whole BTF thing.  Got a reply from them this morning, saying they were sending me a new RSA, and that this should solve my problem.  Two questions:   1.  What's an RSA?  I assume it has something to do with the extractor...   2.  How easy will this be for me to replace myself?  Remember, I'm new to firearms in general and Glocks in particular.   Thanks!
17.   I'm sure that's a part of the problem a lot of times.  In my case, however, that wasn't the cause.  Made it a point to watch my grip, wrist, etc.

Glock 19

I recently bought a Gen 4 G19, my first Glock.  I've put about 130 rounds though it so far, and it has been 100% reliable.  As I mentioned in another thread, I do have a problem with brass to the face pretty consistently with PMC 115 gr ammo (and I've paid particular attention to my grip and stance).  But when I bump up to 147 gr, not a single problem.  Since that's what my defense load is, I'm not concerned with the whole BTF thing (just a minor range annoyance). I usually keep mine at the office and in the car with me in a Day Planner holster.  I typically pocket carry, so I still haven't exactly figured out how I might successfully pull off on-the-body carry with it.     Bottom line, I love the feel and accuracy of this gun.  I shoot it better than anything else I own, and I would highly recommend it.  The only possible advantage I could see to the 26 would be IWB carry.  Maybe the shorter grip wouldn't be as likely to print?  Don't have one, so not sure about that.  Probably depends on clothes, holster, etc.
19. Quick update on the LCP and Glock 19.  Took them both to the range for a follow-up session this past Friday, making sure to pay special attention to my grip, etc.  Long story short, the problem with the LCP apparently was limited to one particular magazine.  Had my friend at the range look at it, and he thinks the tension was too weak.  Took the mag apart and stretched the spring.  We'll see if that takes care of the problem.  I'm just glad it's not the gun - a mag I can live with.   The problem with the G19 appears to be mostly connected to the 115 grain ammo.  I also shot some 147 grain reloads my father-in-law gave me, as well as some 147 grain Hornady Critical Defense, and they all did fine.  The 115 grain PMC?  Most of it still ejected straight back in my direction.  I can live with that, I suppose, because if I ever need it in a self-defense situation, it'll be loaded with the HCD.  Still kinda miffed, though, that a gun as "hyped" as the G19 can't adequately deal with whatever ammo I feed it, regardless of weight.  Oh well, it is what it is.  At least it has been 100% reliable -- no FTF's or FTE's.   Thanks again for all the advice!
20. I read on another forum tonight someone's comments about pocket-carrying a Glock 26.  And it got me to thinking, I wonder how many folks can/do successfully pull that off?  I don't own a 26 (I do have a 19), but it seems like it might be a little too thick for a pocket, if nothing else.  But I'd love to hear if any of you do it regularly -- I'd have to seriously look into getting one if I thought I could possibly make it work.
21.   Yes, right front pocket.  I can't pull it off with every pair of pants I own -- some days I have to go with either my S&W 640 (only marginally different) or LCP.  But with most of my pants, it's doable.  Sometimes my pocket does tend to gap open a bit, if it's somewhat shallow.  But most of the time it's fine.  Haven't noticed it pulling my pants down.  I've got plenty of waistline to keep them up...  :D
22. I've never handled or fired a G36, so I can't make any comments relative to it.  I'm sure like all Glocks that it's a fine gun.  I do, however, own an XDs 45, and I love it!  It's biggest advantage to me personally is that I can pocket carry it, which is how I typically carry.  It have been completely reliable in the time that I've owned it, and I have no complaints at all.
23. I second what Patton said about the all-steel j-frames like the 640, and how much better they feel to shoot than the airweights.  I love my 640, but I had to part company with my 442.  It literally hurt the webbing of my hand to shoot it (I think it was the exposed backstrap more than anything).  You do have a bit more weight in the 640 and like models if you want to pocket-carry them, so there is that consideration too.  I personally chose to take my chances with the weight... Good luck on your choice!
24.   As far as pocket holsters go, I've heard good things about Alabama Holster Company.  I've ordered a pocket holster from them for my XDs 45, and it should be shipped soon.  I'll know more when it gets here.  One downside to them -- they have a pretty long turn around time.  But from everything I've read, if you like kydex holsters, they're product is very good.
25.   Two.  I think I was keeping my thumbs low enough on the slide to keep from interfering with it, but I suppose that could have been the problem.  Maybe they got up a little too high.  I should be able to take it back to the range in a couple of weeks and work on some of my theories.  That is, if I can find some .380 ammo.  Other than the high-end hollow point stuff, it can be hard to find around here.
