  1. I have an Alabama Pocket Holster for my XDS.  Well-made, fits nicely.  I'm sure the model for the Glock 43 would be as well.
  2. Rachel, not to hijack this thread, but I'm actually considering making a purchase through Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore, and I notice that y'all are on file with them.  Even with the distance, if I make the purchase, I'd like to use y'all as my FFL (Powell's not THAT far from Athens, and I'd love to support vendors at TGO if possible).  If I buy it, would it be best to contact you via the phone number on your website, or is there an email address that would be preferable for you?  Thanks!
  3.   Wow, wish I lived closer to Powell.  Can't beat that price and that kind of service...
  4. If you were going to purchase a Springfield Armory Range officer Compact, would you get it in 45acp or 9mm, and why would you choose that caliber?  Just want to pick the brains of you 1911 guys and gals... Thanks!
  5. Congrats on the 27!  I also crossed (again) to the dark side this afternoon - bought a Gen 4 Glock 26.  Had a Gen 4 Glock 19 before, but traded it away (wanting to be different from everyone else, I guess).  But I rented a 26 at the range today to try it out before I bought it, and I was reminded once again - these things may be ugly, but I can shoot them better than pretty much anything else I own.  They just shoot that naturally for me.  YMMV of course...
  6. Thanks for the responses.  Is it a bad sign that I had to google Blue Loctite to see what it was?  Now let's see, where's that gunsmith...   It doesn't sound incredibly difficult - I'd just hate to mess up my gun...
  7. I have a Springfield Loaded 1911, and I'm considering putting on thinner grips that fit my smallish hands better. Seems like I've read somewhere in my research the last few weeks that with thinner grips, the grip bushings would also have to be changed so they'd fit correctly. (Kinda new to 1911's, so bear with me...) So my questions are: 1) Can the grip bushings on the Springfield Armory Loaded be changed? Seems like I've read that on some models they can't... 2) If so, is this something that would be easy for me to do myself, with no experience at all and not much mechanical inclination? Or would it need to be done by a gunsmith?   3) If I go with a gunsmith, who are the one's you'd trust in East Tennessee (Chattanooga/Knoxville area) to do 1911 work? Thanks!
  8. I had an LCP, but I traded it several months back for a p238.  It's not quite as small and light as the LCP, but it's close enough that I'm willing to put up with the slight increases in order to get much better sights -- and with the Hogue wraparound grips, a much better purchase on the gun.  I'd probably just keep the Sig and try to make it work.  But of the other options you mentioned, I'd probably go with either a 2nd gen LCP or one of the new Custom models.  I'd say right now the 2nd generation models can probably be had pretty inexpensively...
  9. Have any of you ever purchased a gun through Davidson's Gallery of Guns?  Was it a smooth transaction?  Did you pay exactly what you expected to pay, or were there any additional charges that weren't spelled out directly in the Gallery of Guns price breakdown?  How do local dealers feel about handling Davidson's transactions?  If you had to use the Davidson's Lifetime Warranty, did it work the way it was supposed to?   Lot's of questions... Any experience y'all could share would be much appreciated.
  10. I think "Guns & Ammo" did a 9mm single-stack "shoot-out" recently (a couple of issues ago), and the 709 they had did very well.  I mean, *very* well - right up there with the big boys.  Probably worth a close look at that price...
  11.   Do you think finding one that covers the safety entirely will help, or is that unnecessary?  I haven't seen any leather ones that do (though there are probably some out there), but I know of several kydex models that cover the entire slide of the gun as it rests against your leg.
  12.   So far I've been using a plain old Blackhawk #3 pocket holster while I've been trying to figure out what if anything I might need to order to replace it with.  I was hoping the cheap Blackhawk would work out, but I think I'm going to have to get something else.  I may try that first before calling Ruger.  That'll be my last resort.
  13. I've been pocket carrying a Ruger LC9S for about two weeks now. I specifically bought the version with the manual safety because I prefer them for pocket carry. I've noticed a couple of times that the safety somehow was switched off in the pocket during the day, with nothing but normal activity. It's doesn't have near the firmness in tension that my Sig p238 does. That thing has never accidentally been switched off, no matter what I do. I know that if I keep my finger off the trigger, I'm still good-to-go. But I like having the extra assurance in the pocket of a manual safety that I can trust. Right now, I don't have a lot of trust. Has anyone else had this experience with the LC9S? Is there some way to make it's tension a little firmer?
  14. Thanks for all the recommendations.  We stopped at the Outpost Armory on the way up, and made a quick trip to the Nashville Armory once we got in town.  Both very nice stores.  Had been wanting to handle a Glock 26.  NA had a new Gen 4 for $549.  Is that a pretty good price based on the market right now?
  15.   Lipscomb University area.  We'll be staying in Brentwood.
  16. My family will be in Nashville for a conference Wednesday through Saturday.  If I get some free time (not sure if I will or not), what guns shops in the area would you put on the "must stop and look" handgun list?
  17. Glad they worked out for you.  I live in Athens and saw that same deal, but had just bought something else and couldn't swing it right now.  I wasn't familiar with their warranty, but it's pretty amazing.  Not only is it a lifetime repair warranty, but also if the gun is lost or stolen, they'll replace it.  Now THAT'S some kind of warranty...
  18. Picked one up at my lgs today for $389 on sale (has the thumb safety).  Prices seem to be coming down - might be good to just call around to the stores in your area.
  19. I'm guessing as well that there's no sales tax when it's done through the FFL down the road in TN?
  20.   I figured that must have some sort of deal like this worked out.
  21. I'm assuming since they're located in Georgia that anything bought through them would require an FFL dealer.  Those of you Tennessee residents who've bought handguns from them before, how exactly does this work?
  22.   Most definitely, Greg, most definitely!  Thanks for the info and advice.
  23. Again, thanks to all of you for your helpful responses.  I just gave her a good once-over with Ballistol - as you might expect, it was fairly dirty.  Didn't do much for the pitting and spotting on the finish, but I can live with that...
  24.   Thanks, EssOne!  I just checked using your method, and the hammer block is clearly moving up and down.  So it looks like I'm good to go.  And thanks for the offer relative to any other questions I might have.  I really do appreciate that - it's one of the things that keeps me coming back to the forum.  Folks here are just so helpful, and don't speak to you condescendingly or make you feel stupid for not knowing what they know.  I've learned a TON here.  I'll definitely keep your offer in mind, and I won't hesitate to drop you a message if something comes up.  Thanks again.
  25.   Thanks!  I'll just do that before I do anything any more invasive.
