  1. I don't think I could pocket carry any of those guns, with the exception of the G43 (haven't seen one in person, so I don't know for sure).  The XDm, no way.  I can *barely* pocket carry the XDs 45 in a few pockets, but not many.  I have a Sig p238 that works well in my pocket that I carry 100% of the time.
  2. My wife's step-father works at the depot in Anniston.  Hmmm... I want one!

    My First 1911

Thanks.  I just ordered a Wilson GI guide rod and plug.  I think it'll make a big difference...

    My First 1911

That is most definitely how I felt an hour-and-a-half after I started trying to give it a simple get-rid-of-the-factory-gunk cleaning last night...  :D

    My First 1911

Finally got my very first 1911 - a Springfield Armory Loaded Parkerized. Sorry for the terrible pictures. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but I did field strip it and do an initial cleaning. A couple of observations along those lines: 1. Everything I had read about the FLGR is absolutely true. Even using the included allen wrench, I didn't think I'd ever get the thing loose. And getting it back together after cleaning? Yeah, it was even more... interesting. May eventually go with the GI guide rod. 2. Even more difficult than the FLGR, however, was getting the slide stop back in - particularly the end closest to to the grip. There is a small piece of metal that protrudes slightly from the plunger tube (I think that's what it's called) that has to be depressed in order for the slide stop to go back in. Doing that without scratching your gun all to heck? Interesting... But in spite of the first-time challenges, there was something strangely fun about the whole thing. There's just something about working with a 1911 that is, well, pleasing... Provided I enjoy shooting it, looks like I may have found my handgun niche -- a very expensive niche... :D Thanks again for all the advice I receive here about what to get for my first one. So many good options... I'm confident this one won't be my last.
  6. Just noticed that only the Parkerized comes with night sights standard; Stainless doesn't.  That will probably help me make up my mind...
  7. Yeah, I can't argue with that. I think I like the looks of Parkerized better, but I figure the stainless will be more durable long-term. I'll probably just have to look at both of them side-by-side if possible and go from there...
  8. Yep, I really like the Springfield loaded.  Still not completely sure whether I should go with the Parkerized finish, or for a little bit more, go with the Stainless.  They both have their advantages and disadvantages.  What do y'all think?
  9. Still considering the RIA I linked to earlier, but right now I'm leaning toward the Springfield Armory Loaded Parkerized.  To me, this thing is beautiful...   http://www.springfield-armory.com/products/1911-loaded-45-acp/
  10.   Well, any paranoia that I might have had about my new CZ possibly being an jam-o-matic were completely unfounded, as expected.  Took it to the range this morning and put 96 rounds of a mixture of various ball and hollow point ammo through it with no problems at all.  It truly is a pleasure to shoot, and is very accurate -- much more so than I am.  Definitely a winner in my book!
  11.   I wondered about that, because it obviously isn't the typical Sig extended mag.  Thanks for the info.
  12. So I'm just curious, how commonly found is the CZ 97?  Bud's in Sevierville didn't have them, and they seemingly have just about everything in stock...
  13.   What would you say is the difference between the p220 and 97 grips?
  14.   Interesting... What is the difference between the CZ 75 and 85 series?
  15.   Yeah, that's one of the ones I'm considering when I decide to get my next non-1911 .45.  That, or a Sig p220 or p227.  All fine guns...
  16.   Pete, I think that was me who posted that a few days ago.  I actually haven't gotten one yet - wound up getting a couple of other things.  It'll probably be a while before I can afford to get one now.  But I'm still going to -- no collection is complete with out one.  I'm actually leaning toward this one right now, but I may change my mind a couple of hundred times between now and then...    https://us.armscor.com/products/rock-ultra-fs-45-acp
  17.   Thanks,  As you say, the more familiar I get with the gun, I'll definitely check out the mods you mentioned.  I may start with the grips pretty quickly -- something about wood on a black gun appeals to me...
  18. Thanks! That is a beautiful pistol you have there. Love those grips. Did you get them from the CZ Custom Shop?
  19.   Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to yet.  It will probably be Friday before I can.  I'll definitely give a follow-up when I do.  I always have this paranoid fear that I'll be the one guy that gets the lemon and winds up with a jam-o-matic...  :nervous: But from everything I've read about this gun, and from the way it feels in my hand, I'm expecting nothing but 9mm bliss.
  20.   Oh yeah, no way I'd try to carry the 75B.  I could definitely see a Compact in my future...
  21. Picked up a CZ 75 B tonight at Bud's in Sevierville (it's probably not good for me that this place is only a little over a hour away...). Both Mechanically and Jonnin graciously offered to let me come down to Chattanoga and take a look at theirs, but from everything they said and what I've read about this gun the last couple of days, I couldn't wait. Had been thinking about the 2075 RAMI, but those are hard to find. And after holding the 75 in in my hand, it was a done deal. To me, this is just one of those classic guns that I couldn't leave without. So thanks to my Chattanooga friends for turning me on to the CZ brand - probably won't be my last. Something about a metal gun. WIth my Sig p238 now for pocket carry, I could easily see me getting rid of all my polymer eventually...
  22.   Shot 78 rounds through my p238 this morning -- some Winchester White Box, some Remington UMC, and some Hornady Critical Defense.  No jams, nothing.  It shot flawlessly.
  23. Finally got a chance to shoot my p238 this morning.  Wow!  10 times better than the LCP in terms of enjoyability, and I was more accurate with it as well.  I may have found my pocket pistol for the foreseeable future - if I can wrap my mind around cocked and locked in my pocket.
  24.   Thanks - very nice of you!  I'll definitely keep that in mind.  I've never been to the range at SD - usually just go to Fugate's in Calhoun because of the distance.  Is it a pretty nice range?
  25.   Thanks, I just may do that.  Very generous of you.  I'm definitely going to do some more research into CZ.  I've only been into handguns for a little over a year, and they really haven't been on my radar -- just don't get the publicity others do.  Do you know if Shooter's Depot or anyone else around here routinely carries them?
