Fatimah Ali: We need Obama, not 4 more years of George Bush By Fatimah Ali Philadelphia Daily News AMERICA is on the brink of a long, harsh and bitterly cold winter, with a looming recession that the GOP won't even admit to. The policies of the current White House have brutalized our economy, yet the wealthiest think that everything is fine. Rich Republicans just don't understand that millions are suffering. But many of their working class do, and they're beginning to abandon their own party. When lifelong Republican Barney Smith told the Democratic convention that he'd vote for Barack Obama for president, he gave pause to even the most conservative members of his party. Smith, like many disgruntled working-class Republicans, is ready to turn his back on his party because he's having such a hard time providing for his family. Like others, Smith fell victim to the loss of 3.2 million American jobs as factories closed or their work was outsourced to cheap labor markets overseas. Poet Langston Hughes once wrote, "Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, Life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly, Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams go, life is a barren field, frozen with snow." Many wealthy folks live in a dream state and ignore people like Smith, whose tale of personal woe preceded Obama's acceptance speech. He opposes John McCain because, he says, America can't afford another four years of failed GOP policies that have extended $200 billion in tax cuts to big corporations but not to the nation's 100 million families. Our national debt has soared from $5.6 trillion to $9.6 trillion under Bush. The Republicans have overstayed their welcome and dragged us into a nightmare that must end soon, or this nation may be headed for chaos. Obama tugged on the nation's heartstrings when he challenged McCain's tough talk and told the truth about the current policies. Critics of the GOP believe that a four-year extension of the Bush administration will be disastrous. People are struggling, and the privileged are so out of touch they pretend it's OK that children go hungry. Over the last eight years, we've lost 3.2 million jobs, and started a war that's cost trillions. The lies and deceit that got us into Iraq in the first place are just the tip of the iceberg and have ruined America's reputation across the globe. Meanwhile, our economy continues to crumble, while crime, homelessness and poverty continue to soar. Despite the fact that thousands of immigrants risk their safety to come here because this country may offer them better opportunities, the truth is that poverty lives right here in our own backyard. Suffering is widespread as the gap between rich and poor widens. The Bush administration doesn't get it and neither does McCain. He is so out of touch that he hasn't a clue how many homes he owns, while the working class struggles to hold on to one. The Democrats desperately need many more voters like Smith to cross party lines in order to secure the White House. Obama says electing him to the nation's highest office will not only help restore America's moral standing globally, but will lift the nation's low morale and improve our declining economy. He promises to cut taxes for 95 percent of American workers and ease the burden for millions of families. And I believe him, although his critics say he's out of touch with the working class and blast him for not having a lineage that includes slavery. But just because his ancestors never wore shackles, and he has paid off the student loans from his elite education doesn't mean he doesn't have compassion. Or that he doesn't understand the pain of those who live in dire poverty, who've lost their homes, who want yet can't afford college, and who lack health insurance. His acceptance speech indicated that, unlike McCain, Obama gets it because hard times aren't so far behind him that his memory's been erased. If McCain wins, look for a full-fledged race and class war, fueled by a deflated and depressed country, soaring crime, homelessness - and hopelessness! Plenty of Americans would rather stay in their dream state than to recognize the poverty sweeping across the country, right here, right now. Obama understands that people are suffering. Every week, prices go up at the supermarket, and people are unable to feed their families. It already is dark and stormy for millions, who can't even afford pencils, book bags and lunch money for their children. But when Obama wins the White House, we may just see a revolution that can turn the tide and improve this nation for everyone, not just a select few. And I expect him to keep his word.:screwy:

Palin's 17 yr old daughter prego
latisimusd replied to Mike.357's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Wasn't Obama born to an unwed mother? -
Like I said I have one democrat in the house and she's now in the Palin camp. I only know what I know and only see and hear what I see/hear - should be a "very interesting" election period. Safe, long, & happy Labor day to all!
-
My wife who's liberal leaning has been reading up on Palin ever since the announcement and is on board - a first in my home! Also at work, grocery store, gas station, most people fired up about her (not McCain) and future of conservatives.

If the "change master" is elected what will you purchase immediately?
-
Take a trip up to Clarksville to Midsouth; http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/ they have great prices on most items - just have to pay TN tax.
-
Shawn's the "man"! You can purchase from him and will be pleased. Have bought many items from him and will continue. Highly recommend!

Good thing there's plenty of places to purchase reloading items - kinda like radio or TV you can change the channel or turn it off if you don't like it.

Anyone own a Hornady AP Progressive Press?
latisimusd replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Sold my Dillon 550 to get a Hornady Lock-N-Load and have been nothing but "pleased" with my purchase. The ejector spring is a weak link however, the powder drop more than makes up for it in "very" consistent drops. 5 stations vs. 4 means a little quicker time frame and I think the customer service from both is outstanding (too bad more companies don't follow their lead) Can't really go wrong with either! -
What do I need to start reloading....
latisimusd replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
One thing cool about reloading is that the bullet is assembled by you every step of the way. I have been reloading for over 20 years and have had "many" varieties of presses (currently Hornady Lock-N-Load & a Classic), however, the one constant is that I actually enjoy reloading just as much as shooting - since I'm really producing my own custom rounds for each caliber I shoot. I can spend hours weighing and measuring and just enjoy the heck out of it. Oh you do save quite a bit of $ compared to most production ammo prices, however the accuracy of hand loads is much better. IMHO -
I remember a fella who shot 1000's of of rounds of 175 & 200 SWC and his basic OAL rule of thumb was a thumbnail width of bullet above the case. He also checked them with a case gauge for extra insurance. I think a 45acp case gauge is "very" cheap insurance and you can buy them from most reloading stores - in fact I'll bet the Reloader's Bench in Mt. Juliet has a selection of em.

Going to be in Chattanooga early in the week, might try to run down there and take a look. Thanks

Here's the pics, I'm gonna get it out this weekend! All in all a pretty sweet deal, however, two of the mags were pretty chewed up, however, it does have extended slide release, channel plug, LoneWolf SS guide rod assbly (all the original Glock parts), slide buffer stop, 70 rounds of Speer Lawman 125 gr 357sig ammo, & some 40SW brass. I'm pretty happy with it, I know he and his wife needed the cash badly and I didn't talk him down any on price. Oh yea - I brought them pizza and beer for selling the pistol!

I'll Pick it up this afternoon! Thanks for the feedback. Post some pics if want.

I know someone who shoots a 9mm in his G35 can't do that in a 34. However, having loaded for 40SW I know it can have really low recoil factors. Just never owned a Glock so not sure of capabilities. Have had HKs & Sigs! JUst thought a good price and helping a buddy out who needs cash.

Remember the old Lays potato chip commercial - Betcha can't eat just one! Same applies here- except you usually end up with more than one

Are these old rifles getting harder to find? I used to see them fairly frequently - trying to decide between another Garand or a 1903. I'm not that old just appreciate the old technology. If anybody knows of a decent one let me know!

Got a chance to get a Glock 35, low round count 5-15 round mags, Dawson green front sight, Glock adjustable rear, extended mag release, tupperware case with all the original stuff, original and 2 extra barrels (LoneWolf 357 Sig & LoneWolf 40SW-to shoot lead). Owner does not like the 40SW round - too much recoil. I really like the 40SW and reload for it. Worth $499? or Opinions Please

I'd like to hunt with my M1-Garand and the iron sites. Legal in TN?

Home Burgler alarm went off today
latisimusd replied to Volzfan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Glad you got it back - doesn't usually turn out that way! I would have waited for LEO response too. Course I wasn't there with adrenalin pumping and it's easy to armchair quarterback. -
My XD 40 Tactical was shooting way left when it returned from Tripp Inc. (Slide Matt chromed). I removed slide and put it in vise (rubber faced jaws) and moved it easily (rear sight) with nylon punch - no scars on any surface. It can be done, however, you need to be cautious and somewhat skilled with this approach.

Bought a CZ453 from Reloader's Bench in Mt. Juliet, it is now one of my favorite rifles, cheap to shoot and extremely accurate.
