"There are proven strategies for reducing gun violence in urban communities without turning to incarceration. "

. There was one paragraph that I agree with, though. The suggestion that LE be notified any time someone fails a background check.

I agree and disagree with this. Even members on this forum have had BGC's come back denied and then approved on appeal. If someone fails just because they  have the same name as a felon they should not be reported to the police.

  3. State officials in Illinois are investigating a coronavirus outbreak at a veterans’ nursing home that infected nearly 200 residents and personnel and killed 27 veterans.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s office and the state’s Department of Veterans' Affairs are attempting to determine what caused the outbreak at the state-run LaSalle Veterans’ Home, according to multiple reports.

have expressed our feelings that if we are being kept alive artificially and the quality of life is just not there, then we will make the decision to let that person go.

I've had to make this decision twice and knowing the persons wishes helps quite a bit but I can't stress enough the importance of having a Medical Power of Attorney along with the Living Will. Things can come up that are not included in or at least not detailed enough in a Living Will to have the persons wishes carried out. Each document needs to be very specific in the wording because anything in a Living Will cannot be overridden by a Medical Power Of Attorney should the situation come up.

Hospice does it all the time. When my dad had terminal cancer they put him on liquid morphine and tacitly told him how to end his life when he wanted to. My sister questioned them about it, and they told her they do it all the time because it's a common request.

This can be done only when a patient is in pain. What I was getting to in the op was someone that was not in pain but could not do anything for themselves and didn't want to live like that.

  6.  Here’s a nice controversial subject.

I read an article a while back about another country that has legalized this and at the time didn’t think too much about it, but a case of a Florida hospital not recognizing a man’s “Do not resuscitate” tattoo on his chest jogged my memory about it. After giving it more thought, I’m beginning to warm to the idea.  Before someone gets too upset, I’m not talking about putting down Granny when you get tired of caring for her but having the legal right to choose for yourself. I know that there’s some that would be against it because of religious beliefs and I do respect that.

For reasons I won’t go into right now, I was a frequent visitor at a nursing home for a number of years. There seemed to be two types of residents there, those that were lying in their beds looking at the ceiling waiting to die and the ones in wheelchairs waiting for the time when they would be confined to bed so they can look at the ceiling. The one thing they all had in common is no one was happy, not one single smile from anyone. I’ve tried to imagine what it would be like to be totally disabled and unable to do anything for myself, whether it be the results of an accident or a debilitating disease, and I wouldn’t want to live like that.

I think that a person should be allowed to put into their Living Will a statement something along the lines of: “When I reach the point where I can no longer fill in the blank (feed myself, bath myself, go to the bathroom by myself, etc.) I wish to have my life terminated” and have it honored by law.

One big obstacle, along with a few others, would be finding a doctor that would carry out the task because of the Hippocratic Oath they take.

Ok, I’m going to go hide in my bunker so I won’t get hit by any bricks being thrown my way. free-scared-smileys-398.gif

I am reading a book by Dave Spaulding, "Handgun Combatives". In most books trainers talk about thugs can pick an easy target by the subtle ques one sends froth from the manner they carry themselves and they way they appear to others in public.

Well! I just realized that body language reading also works the other way. Give you an example.

When I was perused in my own front yard, while going to the mail box a few years back by 3 thugs driving down our road, one of them read my body language.

    Edited to add: Furtive Movements
As I squared up to the first thugs continued advance toward me, after being told not too, the second pursuer read my intent and stopped in his tracks. Loudly told the other, "it ain't worth getting shot over." Then the first guy stopped his advance. I perceived that they were coming at me in a very hurried pace.

What he read was, when he reached that 28 to 30' line, (I am oLd and slow)I had set in my mind that I was going to react, I dropped the mail, I slumped, crouching forward, run my hand quickly in my pocket, set my feet, and dropped my head in a fighting stance, another follower, of the 3, read my intent that I was preparing to fight, then he/they quickly decided they wanted no part of me. He told the other guy to discontinue his aggression and he did.

I just realized this happened after reading this book. That thug surely read my body language, and backed down, just as I had read theirs.

Now I am not bragging, but was totally glad that the incident ended, with me just being cussed at, by them, and me not being beat to within a inch of my life on that day. They all slowly retreated to their truck, entered it, all the while cursing me. When I got the chance, I beat feted it to my front porch, and collapsed in the front porch swing with knees of jelly. Thanked God my morning was not painful or deadly.

I had no doubt that was what they had intended to do to me. I read the aggressor's body language. Matter of fact, I am convinced they were the ones that almost beat one of my neighbors to a pulp later on that morning. He was doing the same thing as me, except he was 84 and legally blind, but had a little peripheral vision. His son told me he never really recovered after the beating and robbery.

Poor guy died 3 weeks later. Since he didn't die shortly after the severe beating they said he died of old age. Makes the crime stats look better for the county.

That body language reading goes both ways, guys. Trainers have been beating that into our heads, for sure, for years.

I was a little naïve in thinking I could continue to go to my mail box, as I had previously done for 30 years, IN This Day-In-Time. Almost paid a big price for being naïve guys.

I post this here so some of you young guys can learn from my experience. Many older guys here have traveled miles down this path.

Dave said, "If you look like meat, they will most likely eat."

I had a friend that would carry his weapon in his hand when he went out to get the morning paper or mail.

  8.  I think folks are getting fed up with all this.

Videos and photos posted on social media late Saturday in California showed a strong turnout for what was billed as a "Curfew Breakers" protest against Gov. Gavin Newsom's latest coronavirus mitigation orders.

Images showed demonstrators -- many with American flags or Trump 2020 flags -- reveling in what seemed like a New Year's Eve-style celebration. Passing vehicles could be heard honking in support.

At a simultaneous rally in San Clemente, Calif., demonstrators were seen gathered around a fire, with members of the crowd tossing protective face coverings into the flames.

"Burn that mask! Burn that mask!" crowd members were heard shouting.

After Newsom issued his order, several California sheriffs said they had no plans to enforce the curfew.

"We've got a lot of things to do, including taking guns away from gang members, stopping narcotic trafficking, and saving children from internet predators," Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said during a video briefing Thursday afternoon, according to Fresno’s FOX 26.

“We’re not gonna make criminals of normally law-abiding citizens.”

I looked at a video on you tube, the guy made a single cylinder from PVC for his HF rock tumbler. I see that you'd gain space for a few more cases per tumbling, not many. It would give you something else to tinker with and keep you out of the wife's way. Free PVC pipe can be found. A supply house could be cheaper than a retail store.

I saw the same video and considered making one for my tumbler but what I have works fine for handgun brass. I seem to recall him saying it required a specific type of PVC though.

  10.   I've done my part by contacting (e-mail) my reps in Nashville asking they back this bill because of the current unrest in the country. I also recommended it be given a lot of thought and worded very specifically so there is very little room for error.

We have members scattered over the entire state so just about every rep. should be contacted. It may or may not do any good but it won't hurt to try.
