Spot on about everyone loving their nearly 50 year old pistol design. It's working for 1911s, why not CZ-75 variants. I think that's what's keeping their pistol business alive. Sadly, a lot of new shooters only want polymer striker fired handguns and CZ's attempt at that flopped really bad.

What's wrong with the P10?  They hold their own in the competitive world and I know several people who carry a P10C.

The current generation of midtown weirdos are something else but residents of the area never have gone around in whatever “state of readiness” that has been displayed here. 😀

Legal or not, it makes other gun owners look bad and only pushes anti-gun movement legislation. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Agreed.  There is a push to legalize carrying long guns, but I think it would rarely be prudent to do so.  Discretion is the better part of valor, or however the saying goes.

I’ve been keeping up with this since yesterday when the Memphis Reddit hysterics started loosing their minds.

No, I do not have a Reddit account or participate but it’s free to look. 😀 Since I am in fact from midtown I kinda keep up with what’s going on down there.

Dude was not carrying a rifle as is obvious in the pics.  It’s clearly a “pistol” but of course it is not being reported or discussed that way.  He also might just be a spaz.

But now leftist media is melting down because they think he was walking around with an “assault weapon.”  It’s not clear if he was too close to a school, but he otherwise did nothing illegal.  However, he is getting more attention than those who actually shot someone and were released without bail.

  4. I haven't seen .20/round 9mm that I would put in my gun.  A friend told me that Academy had Blazer brass for .24 each yesterday. That is about as good as I've seen.

I've been through these cycles several times now.  Components are cheap>people get complacent and say reloading isn't worthwhile>Democrats win/covid hits etc>people freak out>ammo disappears>I handload for .10/round>people want to get into reloading.

Back in 2018 or 2019 when primers were $22/1k, people on this site were telling me reloading isn't worthwhile.  The same people were scrounging for ammo in 2020/2021 and probably standing in line at Academy every Thursday morning.  I can still load pistol ammo for less than half what it costs if I use components I bought when they told me I was wasting time and money.  With components bought today, it's still worthwhile.  If nothing else, it's there when the next run starts and I don't have to hunt up and down hoping to find some.

  5. I don't think I've ever handled a Staccato, but if they are using the same grips STI did, there is room on the sides to remove material and thin them down.  Extreme Shooters https://extremeshooters.com sells slimmed-down grips or works on grips provided by customers.  I have one of theirs on an STI 2011 and it was worth it.  Not that long ago, you could buy a complete Extreme-treated grip for under $200, but their prices have gone up (like everything else).  I'm not sure if Extreme removes material from the back of the grip like you mentioned, but if there's material that can be removed, they have mastered it.

  6. Holy smokes, a trip down memory lane.  The first car I remember is our 1970?? 2 door army green Coronet.  My not-so-fondest memory of it was when my dad slammed the hood on my fingers (I was maybe four years old and he didn't realize I was standing next to him on my toes trying to see what he was doing under the hood).

I know it’s petty, but Federal primers come in gigantic boxes that don’t stack well. I’d be less particular if I didn’t still have a bunch of primers.

They are bulky, but Federals are my favorite.  They seat the easiest when loading and they are the softest - nobody gets light strikes with Federal.

    You could call I suppose.

I meant if I lived fairly close and I were a handloader, I would get a stack.  $70/thousand may not make tons of financial sense to some, but between two wars, an upcoming election, and a less than 2A friendly administration, I don't get a warm and fuzzy feeling about the near future price/availability of ammo and components.  A big pile of Federal primers will not lose value and is more versatile than an equivalent dollar amount of store bought ammo.

Agreed with all said above. I will say that he did come out and say that when the NM gov came out and banned carrying in certain cities he was quoted as saying this a constitutional violation. Not supporting anything else he’s said or done but I was surprised to learn he did have a limit to his gun grabbing.

I’m not sure he has a limit. I suspect he just saw the writing on the wall and was thinking hey guys, we can’t be this blatant.

I stopped in there today. Looks like supplies are trending back toward somewhat normal. They have some primers, but not all brands/types. They have a pretty good selection of powders, but not much in Alliant.

It would be a good time to stock up if you’re running low on anything. Who knows what this war will turn out to be, but I bet it won’t help future availability.

What kind of primers and how much were they?

I also don’t think that it is odd that mass shootings happen with “assault type weapons“. Their design is for rapid shooting and increased damage. Why would somebody choose to do a mass shooting with a lever gun, or a bolt action gun. Bad people want to do bad things to as many people as they can and “assault type weapons“ make that easier. it’s not the weapon’s fault other than that is what they were designed to do.

In the same scenario, a skilled F-class shooter with a hot rod bolt action could have killed more people than Paddock did in Las Vegas.  I fear we still haven’t seen (fortunately) the havoc that a truly talented shooter is capable of wreaking.

I'm not sure how this is any different than the 100 other mass shooting events we've had. Certainly no worse than any of the shootings involving kids. In a week this one won't even be in the news.

You may be correct, or MSM may drag this one out because he’s a white male, apparently hetero, and oh my goodness, he’s a firearms instructor.  Probably a white supremacist by Monday.
