  1. Thanks guys. Either of you regulars over there? I'm going o to try to make it out to Nashville before 5ish, so I can squeeze in some trigger time.
  2. You're only allowed 3 mags - one in the gun, and 2 on the belt. I wouldn't show up with 2 mags. You're virtually guaranteed to run into a stage with 2 reloads. What make of 9mm are you shooting?
  3. I'll be in Nashville Monday night through Thursday night May 19-22. We have 2 indoor local ranges that hold informal IDPA matches each week. Anything like that in Nashville? I wouldn't mind coming out there and maybe meeting a couple of guys off the board.
  4. I've shot 5 low-light stages, IIRC. Standard IDPA stage, but at an indoor range with the light out. You start like normal, but draw a gun and a light at the buzzer. Reloads, movement, whatever. Just like a normal stage. You can do fun things though... We've done one where we had 8 targets, and had clip-on hands to designate 2 as no-shoots. We'd move them for each shooter. It's something everyone should practice. It's convinced me that I don't need night sights, that's for sure. The proper grip on both the gun and the light, and your irons stand out just fine. You learn a lot of things quickly. For instance, I don't aim my light directly at the targets. Like driving through fog, the light washes out in the smoke after a couple of rounds, and you can't see much.

  6. Tad, ease up, dude. I've shot exactly two stages of IPSC. It was a ton of fun, but very very foreign. I really don't understand people who are militant IDPA-only types, or USPSA-only types. They're both a lot of fun. You're not exactly painting IDPA shooters in a positive light over here...
  7. The entire match from June 22 in one video: [ame]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2117801084999533736[/ame] June 29th footage: (I'm the final shooter in all 3 videos). Stage 2 [ame]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-473405610156809956[/ame] Stage 3 [ame]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=982465960329166791[/ame] Stage 4 [ame]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4684859428188768120[/ame]
  8. I disagree with both. In the real world, getting your gun operational again, and managing to KEEP MOVING are probably the two most important things you can do to survive the encounter. I'm not retaining a magazine. I might snatch the partial off the ground if the opprotunity presents it's self, perhaps. In the handful of times you've even HEARD of a reload being performed in a real-world gunfight, I'd bet they shot to slide-lock anyway. And sprinting to cover with a locked-open gun? Why do that when you can ditch the empty magazine and grab a fresh one on the way? I enjoy shooting IDPA, but nothing is perfect, and those are it's glaring weak points.
  9. Can Dan Hardesty at the X-ring Gunshop. He's got an FFL and will do transfers. He's in Cordova near Dexter & Germantown Rd. He's done 4 transfers for me for $20. 901-634-3727
  10. Well, I finally got the video footage from this past Friday edited and posted online. For those of you who haven't been filled in, the Desoto Rifle & Pistol Club is going to be hosting informal IDPA matches. They're going to be every Friday at 4:30 (start at 5:00) and cost $7 for non-members, and $5 for members. They are also going to begin offering an IDPA event on the second Saturday of every month, similar to what MSSA currently has on the first Saturday. It'll cost $12 for non-members, and begin at 9AM. I believe their first one will be on July 14th. Anyway, this past Friday was fun. John Greer, Bob, Margo, and myself got to look really fast (for once)... But it was very fun showing a group of new guys how our sport works. Here's a couple of videos I shot. Since I arrived late, and just barely had time to shoot stages 1 & 2 before they tore them down... I only have video of stages 3 and 4. Stage 3: [ame]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=457002977093005951[/ame] Stage 4: [ame]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6589951104585304344[/ame] Evan P.S. - I'll get a map, directions, and contact information for the club posted up here within a day or two.
  11. Gil's thread covers it pretty well, without a lot of the anal-retentive perfection crap you'll see on AR15 some of the time... http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=569877
  12. What kills Comp-Tac clips fast isn't prying them open, it's what you do after that. I'll bet you pry open the clips, and use them to lift the holster out of your pants, right? Don't do that. Unhook them from the bottom of your belt, then grab the pistol and the sweat shield and lift the whole shebang out that way. Clips last much longer. Which clip is best? The V-clip, hands down. Never breaks, ANCHORS the holster in place, and conceals better than the others. You just need to get a belt with fuzzy-side Velcro sewn to the inside to go with it. I bought mine from beltman.net.
  13. I load 147-grain Federal HST in everything I own for defensive use.
  14. If you haven't bought it yet, hold off. I shoot every week at RangeUSA's IDPA night. And my carry gun is a CW9 that I absolutely love. She's welcome to try it out. Come on out to RangeUSA on Tuesday night. I'm a lefty, so I doubt I have a holster she can use, but she's welcome to go shoot it on the other range, if you'd like. We'll also be all morning out at MSSA as well, this Saturday at 9AM. There's an informal match the first Saturday morning of each month out there. Costs $12 to shoot. But I will say that I wouldn't recommend the CW9 for competition use, and I'd steer her toward a 9mm if at all possible. The CW9 is G26-sized, but a single stack... and the trigger isn't competition-ready if she's going to go at it . As for .40 versus 9mm... There's a big difference in the cost of ammo. Especially considering that it's normal to shoot 500-1,000 rounds a month if you shoot IDPA events 5 nights a week.
  15. I have to say I resepect your fortitude... Carrying a 34 IWB? Yuck. I shoot a 34 with a Vanek trigger, skate-board taped grip, and a set of CGR/Heinie/Dawson sights. I carry a Kahr CW9. If the CoF is less than 15 rounds, I'll shoot that whenver I can. I need to get a third magazine for it, so I can shoot it more in IDPA.
