A am a 357 guy and my EDC is a 7 shot Taurus snubbie. A 4" would be even better. Would like to have a 8 shot 357 Smith 5", but too stingy to put out the Lolli!  I am not a 1911 fan.

I believe the .357 mag is the most versatile handgun caliber there is. It's also the best fight stopper. Still love my .45s for carry and I shoot them better than revolvers. I want the redhawk 8 shot .357 but I'm like you, can't bring myself to shell out the bucks for one right now.

oh yeah, my 357is the 4 inch ported fully polished. It hurt my wallet.

I load 8 different rifles for myself and one for a close friend. Then I load 8 pistol calibers.

I couldn't tell you the last time I bought factory center fire ammo.

Oh, I remember it was about 2 yrs. ago, I was walking through the sporting goods department at ww and noticed they had Federal 150 gr in the blue box for $9.99 a box. I bought 10 boxes and still have 8.5 boxes sitting on the shelf.

    RP

If that is 150gr 30-30 it has tripled in value. I had my wife pick up 3 boxes early last year at $15.99 a box. Last time I was forced to go to WW they had .22 WRM, 12 and 20 ga shotshells and nothing more.

I am not trying to start a war on this. I hike and have the option of a four inch 357 six shot or a full size 45 with 8 shots. Just wondering what people would of have carried between these two.

I'm a HUGE fan of .45 acp for personal protection from two legged predators. For backwoods hiking where large fou legged predators roam, I would carry the .357. of course I have an 8 round .357 but even with six gun I'd take the .357 with 158 grain full power loads.

One of the other significant struggles is polymers. Since our volumes are considerably less than that of the automotive industry it can be tough to find domestic injection molding places that will take on our work.

Of the molders I used to work for over 3/4 of them are closed permanently. otherwise I would hook you up!

Ive got some blackhawks and a 10/22 target version which has an excellent trigger. I dont favor his political views. But I bet there is alot of things we buy we dont know the political direction of the parent company. I try not to support most of that

Procter & Gamble would be one. I don't care for most actor's personal political views but I still watch TV and movies. NFL and NBA are out of the question though. Bet most watch SEC sports that support the liberal teaching Colleges. Ford and Chevy are built outside the US gor the most part. Harley Davidson uses more foreign parts than Honda's Goldwing. It's all a crapshoot and as one member put ot on another post if we boycott everyone who doesn't follow our political/religious beliefs we will end up naked living in a cave.

that being said, still pissed at Hornady, will NOT watch Ellen and think Rosie O'Donnell should be publicly flogged. NIKE is banned for life for supporting Kopernick. we all draw the line somewhere. so what does that have to do with bobsguns new Henry?

Congrats bobs, I'm bummed with no pics too. 🙂

  7. I had just started shortly before all this mess hit so I don't have a stock if powder or primers so I am stuck. I have powder and bullets but primers as we know are scarce and very expensive. Since primers are the most time consuming component to make, the ammo manufacturers are going to get the bulk of what are produced. I only have dies for .45 acp and 30-30 so I haven't been loading. I have enough to load up about 1000 rounds of 45 but I only have a few LRP. 30-30 loaded ammo is near $2 per round so my Marlin has not been fired in two years. Very sad but I will sit on the 80 rounds I have and shoot my .300 BO for now.

my recently purchased .357 mag is in the same boat but .38/.357 is starting to become available again!

I see a few folks have mentioned single shot shotguns, and can see why they make the list.  I have a couple of them.  One is a like new 20ga that I got for Christmas when I was a kid.  I upgraded to a 870 a year later which I still have.  Honestly in the 25+ years I've owned the 870 I recall pulling the old 20 out once for a rabbit hunt because I didn't want to carry the 870 all day.  The 20 will be waiting for my son in a few years, but at this point there is also a 20ga auto for him to use if he likes so I'm not sure how much he will use that single.  I also have a .410 single that seems to get used often for skunks and rats.  That said, a 12 ga, would likely see less action that my 20 does.  I would say that most anyone who is remotely interested in shotguns upgrades to a pump or auto fairly quickly, but the used market on singles has gone up quite a bit in recent years.  If you look at the current offerings you will see why.  My .410 is a Hatfield from Walmart and has very poor fit and finish.

Easy to see why most single shots sit in the cabinet with so many better options available. I would never have bought one had it not been for my grandfather giving me his. not practical for the hunting I used to do. I had a store branded bolt action built identical to my hunting partner's Mossberg goose gun save for the 4 inch shorter barrel and adjustable choke. Used to hunt Canada Geese when I lived up north so that was what was useful. The fit and finish on my gun was well below what my friend's Mossberg displayed but it was a field gun, used for hunting, and all I could afford at the time. It would be pretty useless to me now.
On the 410, I wanted one to build a custom snake charmer/tactical style just because. I ran across and old Iver Johnson 410 that resembled my 12ga, I can't cut it up but I had to buy it for it's simple elegance. I don't need it, it serves no purpose, so is it useless? Not ot me, it is just a working piece of mechanical art. It is useful in my eyes if I never pull the trigger.
some of us are collectors, some shooters, some see firearms as merely tools. so many sub sets in just those categories. BUT in my eyes there isn't a useless firearm, only some less useful to me.

yep, I talk too much 🙂

Got 36yrs as a Pipe Welder, started when I was 18 working with my father doing Pipeline Maintenance on high pressure Natural Gas Lines in PA were I was raised. The last job I worked with him was a 36" line that stretched 68mi on our part, the rest went down into WVA. to a pumping station. I got out of that line of work for a little while. Moved here to TN and started welding for the Pipefitters Local 572 in Nashville, did that up until a year ago. I went in the hospital for some basic stents, but that turned out to me having heart surgery. Well 5 bypasses later while I was getting ready for the bypass surgery, I got digonased with stage 4 Colon and Liver Cancer. Been almost a year on Chemotherapy Treatments and they seem to be working. I had to take a disability retirement early (I'm 55yrs old) they gave me a 5yr window so hopefully I can beat this. But I can tell you this I enjoy being retired, just not this way but I don't miss crawling around in the dirt, or being 200' in the air welding.

    you have my prayers,

Yes, I'm very aware that many (most?) people really like their AR's.  I tend to be much more of a collector than actual shooter, thus I like really old guns with some historicity about them, preferably made from wood and steel.  Revolvers, along with old bolt action, black powder and single shot rifles are more up my alley than AR's and the current crop of plastic fantastic pistols.  Each to his own ...

I shoot less often than I would like due to ammo cost. and I prefer steel and wood myself. I was looking for a wood and stainless mini 30 when I bought my AR. Black powder has never interested me until lately, I'd love to get one of the Uberti revolvers to play with. I don't have a large collection and only three plastic pistols. two are specifically for carry when I need something light. Since we are discussing our most useless firearm I can't include AR in the mix. It's quite versatile and tons of fun to shoot, I don't really have useless since the one I never shoot is a keepsake and I bought a box of shorty shells to knock the dust off of her. Even the ones I've sold because they were of little use I'd like to have back. Oh well, enough rambling about everything for now.

I'll let the other clowns keep you laughing, but I'll gladly say a prayer that your November is far better than October has been.

Thanks David. I'm glad I joined.

  12. I had surgery yesterday to repair my ring finger on my left hand. Doctors call it trigger finger, a knot on the leader where it goes through the guide. A simple procedure, no big deal. I was afraid I would have to put it off after coming down with covid but I recovered in time. The stress of worry has been very trying. My step son lost his father last week from complications of the same lung ailments I have. He didn't have covid but I have no doubt that it will be recorded that he did. I don't doubt many have died from this virus but it has been blown way out of proportion. Add in the anger and tears from the abandoning of Afghanistan, worry that I will lose my job for not getting the jab. How am I not crazy you ask? I have a good wife and an all powerful God that love me through thick and thin. And a bunch of friends most of whom I've never met in person here that make me laugh and yell daily. Thank you God and thank you friends.

In terms of the likelihood of it ever being shot, probably my 1889 Berdan II single shot rifle.  The (single) action screw is broken, and thus far I've been unable to find a replacement anywhere on the planet, plus the ammo (components) are fairly rare, often out of stock, and expensive.  In terms of how I feel about it, the most useless is undoubtedly my AR15.  A few years ago I built one, just because, shot it a couple times and put it away.  Not a big fan of this platform, I wound up with quite a few parts in anticipation of building others, after the first I just lost interest ...

I am sure we could find new homes for the stock of parts. I have an AR pistol in .300BO but I'd like to build another just to do it. they are a good arm to have around even if they do eat a lot.

I have an old Hopkins & Allen 12 gauge single shot. Best guess is it was made around the 1930s (?). It was used for many years with old corrosive ammo and rarely cleaned. The bore pretty much resembles the surface of the moon. 🙄  But it belonged to my Grandpa, so I keep it. 😉

Same story with my Iver Johnson except mine has a crack in the comb. I haven't ever fired it but I don't consider it useless at all. Since I don't hunt now I guess they are all useless to some but I love them all.

At the risk of offending some, I agree with the OP, I see no use for the .410 wheelguns, but I still want one LMAO.

  15. I worked in plastics for too many years, Several different factory positions until China became the manufacturing place to be. Mechanic at several places then Management at Travel Centers. Worked for a company that builds dump bodies and snow plows as office manager/admin. Now work for a large autoparts distributer as product support specialist.

In other words, I've not stayed with anything long enough to get to the top or retire. 🙂

I can't disclose whom I work for, but we sell stuff to NASA and parts for the F-35 and the guys here won't be forced to take the jab. So parts for the F-35's and NASA may be scarce. We shall see who hollers foul first. Masks are optional you want it use it you don't then don't.

I watched some of the NYC anti vax march, lots of firefighters and cops. y'all know what happens when the NYC trash collectors stop working. 🙂
