With stage 4 colon and liver cancer along with 5 bypasses, I chose to do the right thing for me and my wife who has MS. You can do whatever the hell you want if you catch it and die well to bad.

That would be "too", not "to".   😉

I'm hearing that the "levee" that the railroad runs atop alongside Highway 70 is basically what caused the sudden, tsunami-style flooding of Waverly rather than them having succumbed to waters rising at a pace that would have allowed forewarning and evacuation.

Waverly police chief was on-air saying that's not true. He listed multiple creeks that were flooding & caused issues.

I saw the story you're referencing to, it was Ch 4 trying to dredge up some clicks. The so-called "reporter" was an idiot, IMO. I doubt he passed high school.

  3. Yeah, good luck with that. One of my local repair shops closed down as ALL of his mechanics left him for better paying jobs elsewhere.

Much like good drivers, good mechanics are difficult to find. If they're good, they already have a nice job somewhere. I know *I* would hate to be a business owner these days that had to hire a bunch of people. Locally, it seems like most businesses have a "now hiring if you're breathing" sign out front.

Check with the VA job placement people as well. Lots of vets getting out these days of the Biden fiasco.

    Best of luck to you!

My ex MIL, used to go there & get jugs full of the stuff. Stunk like crap & didn't do anything for her disposition or looks. I think they did cap them at some point. She's now dead & buried. I doubt if grass grows over her grave.

    LOL!  Funny story!

Older folks used to say sulphur was good for arthritis & other ailments. Never heard any of them say anything about disposition nor looks.  😆

The wells were still there a several years back. I think TDEC or some environmental outfit made the city cap the wells. I expect the advance of modern medicine reduced the attraction to the thought od sulpher water curing most anything.

There used to be a tap of sulphur water on 8th Ave North in Nashville. It sat right in front of the old Worthan Industries bldg, now an apartment complex. For decades it flowed freely for anyone who wanted it & people were always filling their milk jugs. Then the gubbermint got involved as well as lawyers. Worthan lawyers got the spigot cut down to Saturdays only. Then not long after that it was cut out completely.

RBS was a nice resort town back in the day, hotels, mineral wells. Finally fizzled out.

RBS would've fizzled out eventually anyway, IMO. It's well off the beaten path, nothing to do there & people aren't attracted to mineral springs anymore. I've been there a couple of times in the last 7-8 years. It's a quant little town, for sure. But there's nothing worth driving in for, IMO.

Their football team holds the record for consecutive losses. I think it's 88 or 90, it's well up there. Not sure what the story was behind that fiasco.

They also have a motorcycle museum in town but I didn't visit it. Very, very few restaurants in town as well.

I have several towns around me here that's dying as well. Etowah is one of them. Sad.

I was just confused why you said locals avoid it when so many of us picnic, hike, and bike there through the year.

By "locals" I mean Tennesseans in general. By no means did I mean to imply it wasn't worth a visit or was a bad place to visit, aside from the traffic. I could've been a bit more precise in my wording, I guess?

I've been stuck in Dollywood traffic, that's no fun either. The reason I moved out of Nashville was in part because of traffic. The LAST ting I want to do on vacation is sit in traffic for long periods of time. Otherwise I'd vacation in Atlanta.  😉

I worked over there Monday and Tuesday. Going back tomorrow. So many hurting souls.

I worked as a volunteer after the Nashville flood in 2010. Many folks lost almost everything they owned. Mill Creek became a roaring river in many areas of Antioch, flooding apartments as well as neighborhoods.

People were walking around in a daze, trying to wrap their minds around starting from scratch. Very, very few people had insurance, sadly.

Buddy of mine lives in Humphries Co. He told me it wasn't the TN River that flooded but the creeks & so forth that got out of control. He sent me a pic of the water on his road, it's half way up his mailbox post. He said it flooded so fast most folks didn't realize that it was time to get the hell outta Dodge. Once they figured it out, in most cases it was too late.

I saw where they've recovered some bodies of the young children who drowned. I can't imagine what their parents are going through with all that.

Unlike many folks in past floods elsewhere, the Humphries Co folks really didn't get much warning to evacuate. Someone correct me if I'm wrong there.

Are you a local? Your profile says Benton which is nearly 2hrs away from Sevier County and Cades Cove.

I live in Benton, yes. But I've been going to Gatlinburg & that area all my life, virtually every summer. I still ride my bike through that area but don't go anywhere near Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg anymore.

The Smokies are the #1 visited national park. They don't achieve that status w/o a boatload of traffic.

Hey, you want to go, knock yourself out. Have a good time. But don't say you weren't warned about the traffic mess there.   🤨

  10. Knew several members who were going with no other intentions than booing LaPierre off the stage. Now that won't happen, sadly.

For those whom have never been, the NRA convention is a way cool event. Many vendors sell at these, often with serious discounts. Optics are often good buys at these.

One can also meet big wigs like Les Baer in person, among others.

She's not saying it dropped; she alleges her purse just swung out and the gun fired.  Sounds less blameworthy than "I was fiddling with my holstered gun in my purse and accidentally fired it."

Yeah, the check is in the mail & I promise I'll only put the tip in.   (roll eyes)

Female cops, by & large, are THE worst gun handlers that ever existed. There's multiple documented cases of them having a ND. One shot a perp in the back when she drew her gun & she thought she drew her stun gun. Shot the guy in the back while he was being cuffed. Her fellow cops were not amused, to say the least.

What IDIOT carries a gun in her purse anyway? Worst place in the world for a woman (or gay man) to carry their roscoe.

The requirement is the state law referenced in my OP. It refers to government property which is not covered by other sections of the law such as schools, courtrooms, etc.

I still haven’t found out if the fairgrounds is owned by the county or privately, which would make a difference.

Most fairgrounds are owned by the city or county in my experience. If it's privately owned, it's often referred to as an "expo" of some sort. Lebanon would be an exception for that but Knoxville would be a good example.

Thank you for the suggestions.  Touristy stuff is at the bottom of our list.  The trip is mostly for recon to see how things have changed since last there in 2019 and to dial in areas for a move.  I'm sure we'll work in some fun though.

Hey, my brother & sis-in-law live in Vero, over close to the mall. Love that area! The best part of FL, IMO.

    Tuning fork?

Yes. Ask any long-time gunsmith of reputable worth & they'll tell you. Extractors will vibrate when the slide slams home empty. They're made of such hard steel they're "brittle". Repeated slamming will result in a damage extractor. Call Cylinder & Slide & ask them if you don't believe me. Or ask an experienced USPSA shooter.

External extractors such as what Sig 1911s uses don't have this issue.

I'm a big fan of the Washington Huskies, and they may have a pretty good shot at winning the Pac12 this season. Unfortunately, they've not been able to win a bowl game in recent years. Also unfortunately for me, too many west coast games start at 9pm CST. I'm not staying up til midnight to watch a stinking fb game.

DVR the game, watch it the next day. It's what I do when I have to get up early for work.

The big question is whether Josh Heupel will last the season before Volunteer fans call for him to be fired.

Nah, the fans know Pruitt left a dumpster fire behind. The defense lost a boatload of transfers.

With Ralph Bristol fired I would not want anyother local talent. My pick would be Nikki Goesser. I don't know if she would

even want to do it,but if someone here could reach out to her it would be great.

I missed it, what happened with Bristol?

I'm not sure Nikki is extroverted enough to be a radio host, IMO. She's pretty reserved.

Can't help but feel like we're being messed with.

Considering the Govt has been caught lying & changing stats, it's impossible to believe a word they're saying.

Fauci has been caught red handed lying about his connections with the Chinese lab & funding them. His credibility, if it ever existed at all, has been long well shot to death.

"Just two more weeks to flatten the curve!"  (insert eye roll here)

In TN 95% of the people who have died of COVID in the last month weren't vaccinated.  Maybe there's a clue there?

No clue, not really. Were the deaths of urban or rural people? People who live in apartments or homes? People whom went clubbing? How many had underlying health issues: obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc?

This is like including gang banger shootings, robberies & other illegal acts lumped in with annual gun death rates by ND's. Just too many variants, IMO.
