  1. Get your picks in early, who will win, who will be awful.

As usual, Vandy will probably only win one or two games, none in the SEC, IMO.

UT will be 5-5, 5-6, depending on how hard covid hits their schedule. Score a bunch of points, give up a bunch of points on defense.

Bama should win the SEC West but keep an eye on Ole Miss. They may climb above LSU for the West #2 slot.

Were I a betting man, I'd wager on GA for the SEC East. Lots of talent there, good coaching as well. FL might be hit or miss, Gobs of talent but a bunch of 5 cent heads, IMO. Everyone else will fight for 3rd place except Vandy.

Bama vs GA in the title game. Coin flip on who wins.

Elsewhere, the usual suspects. OSU, Clemson, maybe Oklahoma? No clue about the West coast at the moment, who's good or not.

    NFL

Titans looked REAL good in preseason despite playing all back-ups. Both back-up QB's looked sharp as did the RB. The rest of the AFC South is in a rebuilding mode for the most part. Indy lost QB Rivers to retirement. Houston is a mess with the legal issues around their QB. J'ville is with a first year college coach & rebuilding as well.

KC will win their division along with the AFC West. Buffalo might make some noise in the AFC North. I don't see NE winning it nor Pittsburgh.

KC & Titans in the AFC title game with the Titans winning it in a close game.

NFC will almost certainly be taken by Tampa Bay as long as Brady is healthy. Their back-up QB played awful against the Titans, so he's not the answer.

NFC West will be a three dog race with the Rams, 49ers & Seahawks, IMO. NFC East is a dump for teams except for Green Bay.

Green Bay & Tampa Bay in the NFC title game with Tampa winning it.

Tampa Bay vs Titans in the Super Bowl. If everyone is healthy, Titans winning it.

But what happens if you need your weak hand to drag a family member or person to safety? Then what? Lose sight of the target? Lasers are not a bad thing. Especially if you are on your own turf. Even more so if you're getting older.
BTW, don't think the person, namely me, has no experience in the field. Been around the block...

Well, I live by myself, so my odds of needing to drag someone is pretty slim, IMO. But were I ever in that sort of situation, the #1 goal is ALWAYS to remove the threat before saving someone else. Otherwise I well may be lying there with him/her, no?

Studies show people whom use lasers do multiple things over time: forget to use the front sight by depending on a laser, focus on the dot rather than maintaining situational awareness. Both of those can have fatal results to the good guy, IMO.

Obviously I can't (or shouldn't) worry about what others do or don't do on their carry guns. We're all adults, we make our own choices and live with them. But as the wise man once said, "just because you can doesn't mean you should."  😉

Just wait until you need reading glasses and your front site is nothing but a big blur (or multiple blurs).  You'll change your tune about dot sights.

I passed that point a loooooooooooooong time ago. LOL!

My thought is this on electronic optics on a self defense gun: how many times have you (or anyone) picked up a flashlight & the batteries were dead? Life being what it is, we too often get sidetracked from what we should be checking on regularly: air pressure in our tires, out BP, our blood sugar, etc. It's just too darn easy to let something slide past us while we're dealing with work, family, etc. I know I'm guilty as hell in not shooting my carry guns enough. Shame on me. I hope it doesn't bite me in the ass some day. BUT! None of my carry guns require batteries in any way, shape or form. I've modded their sights in such a way that all of them are completely usable by me in any condition.

But, as I've said, we all seek our own solutions in what we deem the best way. My solution just doesn't need batteries, so Mr. Murphy can keep on trucking.  😉

If by "worked" you mean 100% effective, then no. No vaccine is 100%.

There's some stats from Israel on their current covid issues. Almost half of those in the hospital have had some sort of shot from one of the various makers. Google it up.

Now I have no clue what the US stats are nor do I doubt anyone else does either. Hospitals have been caught time & time again changing covid numbers. But I again say I know multiple people whom have had shots also contract covid & end up in the ICU.

And IF the shots work, why wear masks? Makes no sense.

Over 90% of hospitalizations for Covid are unvaccinated people. The vaccines work, period.

If they "worked", then people wouldn't be getting covid after they've had the shots. Since they get covid after they got the shots, it's NOT a "vaccine" per se.

For the record, I'm doing the shots. Had the first, waiting for the second. But I'm not closing my eyes to the reality of the situation.

  6. Personally, I was ok leaving it at 21 for handguns. Yes, I know that runs against the norm in most circles.

But current 18-20 year olds can't change a tire nor drive a stick shift (mostly). Most probably couldn't name their own Governor, IMO. Couple that with some alcohol floating around a group & you've got a recipe for disaster, IMO.

I hope everyone here realizes that you know enough to see how little politicians understand firearms. I further hope you realize they have the same amount of knowledge or economics, healthcare, safety, environment, foreign policy, etc. It's really scary when you stop and think about it.

Possibly even scarier is the MSM. But either are dumber than a box of hammers.

Spotting you by the bad guy is movie nonsense. Not that it can't happen, (highly unlikely), but neither you or the perp will be waiting to ambush from the bushes.

Never cleared your own house, have you? Or investigated a noise from your pole barn? Or live waaaaaaaay out in the country, where there's no neighbor from a good bit?

A moving light (no matter how small) is easily seen by someone. Not my idea of concealment. Holding a flashlight in your weak hand, away from your body line is the method I've decided is the safest for me. Obviously everyone will pick which one they think works best. But why give a meth head a leg up over you?

Lasers at night are great for telling the enemy exactly where you are. I suggest night sights or a new red dot sight.

    This.

A huge night sight on the front is the best option, IMO. No batteries to worry about nor fool with. It's always there, always "on".

A red dot is a mechanical device. Any mechanical device is both susceptible and prone to failure.  And sure as god made little green apples, it WILL happen at the worst possible time. My life is worth more than a $200 (or less) red dot sight.

Not to mention a red dot getting knocked off of point-of-aim.

Not on my carry gun, no thank you.

  10. My vote goes to Rock Island. I have two of them, a Commander & dbl stack 2011, both in 10mm. I would buy both again, which is the highest recommendation I can give a gun.

Tisa's do have a good rep, although I have seen a couple come back to a shop for warranty issue. No gun in that price will always be perfect.

Sorry he died with Coved, Seldom  listened to him. My advice, GET THE SHOTS. I did.

Edited to add; My wife has a nephew and great nephew, his son)  with coved and one is on a ventilator and the other in intensive care 3 weeks now. Both said they wished they had gotten the shots. Sadly, too late now.

Sadly, the shots don't prevent one from getting covid. I know multiple people who had both shots & STILL ended up in ICU somewhere.

I wonder if a better option would've been making cheap testing kits, do-it-yourself ones for home. Test yourself everyday & catch it before it gets ramped up & hammers your lungs. Because clearly the shots are neither preventing it nor slowing it down. They're also going to be mandatory as soon as the FDA approves them next month (I read on the news).

May China's govt rot in hell over this.

Good luck and be careful. I stopped riding bikes in 2001. I've worked a bunch of crashes with bikes to the point where I was looking more rearward than forward when I was riding to keep from getting rear-ended. Look out for cars , loose gravel from driveways , and animals.

    All good advice.

One thing I do to help myself is wear one of those construction worker reflective vests. Bright yellow, so it's easily seen & stands out. I got mine @ Greene's Military & Police in Donelson, TN.

I never get on my bike w/o that vest being on!

I'd love to find a local dealer that sells on gunbroker to list the guns on a consignment and commission basis but I haven't had any luck in that regard.

The Gun Crew in Nashville does a boatload of GB sales. I mean insanely crazy level of sales. However, I can't speak for them on if they would sell your gun for you or not, you'd need to speak with them over the details.  In fact, I will be in their shop next Sat picked up two transfers.

*I* would still try a couple of gun shows first. I know multiple dealers who often buy from walk-arounds. A win-win for both, IMO.

    It will be officer dependent.

Which will be a huge disaster, IMO. Police should enforce the law(s), not interpret them, IMO. *I* don't want some mouth breather trying to decide of someone is violating the law or not. *I* prefer the law to be crystal clear. Sadly, the TN Legislature doesn't get voted in because of their brains....................

I guess I'll point out again that there were Conservatives relishing the death of both RBG and John McCain. Both "teams" are nasty these days.

I understand McCain being reviled. He screwed America on voting for Nobama Care, he screwed America on voting for anti-gun legislation at every opportunity. He was no friend to conservatives & shafted us at every opportunity.

Ginsberg was against virtually everything America stood for, IMO. Hated guns with a passion. How can a USSC Justice support all the Amendments except one?

  16. GB is geared more in a dealer's favor over an individual, IMO. Already mentioned are the fees & taxes added on. Another negative will be your lack of rating on your first couple of sales. Not many would chance $500-600 on a non-rated seller, IMO. (Reminds me of job hunting. "We can't hire you because of no experience." Me: "How can I get experience if you won't hire me?" LOL!)

I would stick with this site for sales or maybe hit some gun shows & do a walk-around sale? Or perhaps a consignment with a local dealer, if possible?

Also, what happens when a buyer damages a gun himself & then claims it was shipped that way? That's a HUGE headache for a private seller. I've seen it happen to others.

  17. Personally, *I* wouldn't get within 50 miles of Cades Cove. Traffic & tourists make that area a must-avoid for locals, IMO.

What *I* would do is slide a little further south & ease around the Chattanooga area. Take a train ride on the TVA Rail run, maybe go white water rafting on the Ocoee River or tube down the Hiwassee River if you prefer calmer adventure?

Much better entertainment options as well as less traffic in SE TN, IMO. Regardless, drive safely!

Greg, as an old guy who has cut my share of trees,  some with a hinged limb such as yours. Poison ivy aside, it's a dangerous situation.

Hire a bucket truck & crew.

    This!

What's your life worth? Or getting paralyzed?

Trees don't care who you are, how nice you are, how many kids you have or where you go to church. They hate everyone equally. Hire a pro for this one, IMO.

Is this for real?   How can it be harder to put stuff on a tray instead of putting it in a bag?  If anything, bagging is harder.

As usual, the answer is: $$$$$.

They have to have a person collecting the trays in the lobby, they have to have a person cleaning the trays (I would hope!). That's extra expense in their eyes.

My local places do this & I've bitched about it constantly as I hate eating out of a bag. The local McD's lobby isn't even open nor are the ones in Bradley Co. They claim they can't find enough help.

The previous state record was 9.45” recorded in Franklin on May 1, 2010 during the flood.

Doesn't sound like much in comparison, but the issue in the 2010 flood was all the western rivers & lakes had already reached capacity when the rain hit the Mid State area. The water had no where to go, so it backed up. I was working the Opryland Hotel that day & we evac'd guests at 2am to McGavock high school. I stood on the first floor in the Delta section (closest to the river) & saw water 3' (yes, feet) above the room window sills. It was surreal to say the least.

It also rained for like 3 days straight non-stop.

Of course, none of this negates the suffering of those poor folks in Humphries Co.
