I can't imagine thinking these charges are worth throwing my life away by getting killed during an escape? Obviously these guys weren't in the situation they were in by being smart. Jeez.

It was tough for us to find 5 acres, 2400 sq’ house and outbuildings not in a subdivision, outside Crossville as of last summer.
I understand others not wanting to do this, but were I in the same boat I would at least think hard about doing it this way:
1) Find appropriate acreage in suitable location & affordable price & buy it.
2) Park a decent double wide on it, plumb it, add a metal skirt.
3) Hire someone to build an appropriate sized pole barn, design of your choosing.
All that would come in both much cheaper & with less stress than a never ending search for something that may not even be out there? Again, I understand why some wouldn't want to do it this way. Good luck to those fellas.

Sarcasm. You missed it.

That is one of the many reasons we now live in free America.
Also one of many reasons cops are SO beloved among the gun community too.

Not locked? Few people are stupid enough to steal a police car. Would you really want a cop fumbling with keys if they had to be somewhere in a hurry?
Cops lock their car every time they leave it to eat, go in a store or go to the bathroom. Doesn't seem to bother them there does it? What does it take to unlock a car? 2 seconds? 3 seconds? That's nothing.
I don't disagree with the stupid people stealing a police car. But here we have Exhibit A in such a stupid person. Cop was well away from back-up, by himself & had no knowledge of the person on the interstate, i.e. his state of mind and/or physical status. Looks like he found out both, IMO. Had he simply bothered to lock his car, NONE of that would've happened, would it? Nope.
QuoteNot a threat? More people are killed by cars than guns. He already initiated a wrestling match with a cop. He's in a police car that probably has a rifle and/or shotgun inside. He could easily impersonate an officer for nefarious purposes if he got away.
Quite the leap there with the driver becoming a vehicular battering ram. Where did you pull that out from, thin air?
Last I heard, ALL rifles & shotguns were locked up in a rack inside a vehicle for this very reason. Have you heard different? If so, please share it.
You also skipped over the cop shooting at the driver, endangering a lot of innocent people. When did auto theft become a capital crime? Not carjacking, auto theft. Cop should be suspended for a lot of things but certainly for firing his weapon on a crowded interstate. Stupid.

Two many good firearms out there for under that, price figure.
"Two" is about right for under $600 with both of them being a CZ of some sort.

Why does it take so long from approval to actually receiving the stamp?
Why would they hurry? Have you never been around gubbermint workers in any form?
Now, if they got paid by the # of approvals they would indeed get off their ass.

And precisely what does this mean???
Just an attempt on humor, nothing else. No description was given on the escapees, so who would we look for? Fat women?

I don't understand why that is ironic.
Several reasons, actually.
1) Women claim men "never listen". Here's actual proof.
2) The ONLY gun mfgr that has a female CEO is one of THE most reactive to their buying base.
3) CZ USA has come from being a rare, communist-owned gun mfgr to a small importer to one of THE largest gun sellers in the USA. All because they listen to their buyers.

Atlas 2011s are fairly common in USPSA for Limited and Open division. I’m currently experimenting with their 140/40 mag with my STI Edge.
It's been several years since I've shot a match, but I don't recall ever seeing one there. Might've been before their time?

A possible help might be some rubber wrap-around grips? I think Hogue used to make those?
Another option is get a 9mm 1911 where the recoil is a good bit less.

Might be able to find some steel plate matches? Those are as much fun as bowling pin matches, IMO.
I got a bunch of bowling pins that a local alley was throwing out & they gave them to me. Must be a dozen or so? If you have enough property you could roll your own?

Glad to hear everyone came through with no major issues.
The skeptic in me wonders if commercial burglaries went up in the areas where the power went out? Alarms not working, that sort of thing?

I think it would be beneficial if somehow someone in management at Smith and Wesson could receive a link to this thread and read it.
Why do you think upper management never goes to the SHOT show or NRA conventions? They don't want to associate with the unwashed masses nor hear their complaints. Nor are upper management "gun guys", they're f-ing bean counters, MBA's. I bet none of them have a carry permit & can count the number of times they've been shooting on one hand & have fingers left over.
Here's some irony. The best gun mfgr currently that responds quickly to customer's concerns & desires these days is CZ USA. Their CEO? A woman.
But I wouldn't hold my breath on big wigs listening to their buying public. H&K is infamous for this.

Chattanooga Police released new information on the police cruiser chase that happened Sunday morning.
Officials responded to the MAPCO Mart off Rossville Blvd. at 10:20 a.m.
When officers arrived, they learned the store clerk was involved in a dispute with a shoplifting suspect, identified as 41-year-old Christopher Parker. Police say Parker threw a drink at the store clerk and then left the store.
CPD found Parker walking along the I-24 Eastbound shoulder and attempted to arrest him.
Police say Parker started to fight the officer, attempting to shove him down the embankment. At some point, Parker knocked the officer to the ground took and control of the officer's patrol vehicle.
Officials say the CPD officer fired his weapon at Parker as he was driving off in the police cruiser.
Georgia State Patrol located the vehicle which led troopers on a pursuit into Catoosa County. GSP was able to arrest Parker in Catoosa County.
A) Not sure why the cop didn't lock his vehicle when exiting it? Was he positive no one else was around to just hop in it & drive off? Seems like a bad decision, IMO.
B) Am I the only one who thinks firing at a departing vehicle on a busy interstate is a bad idea? Is that a deadly force application? The driver wasn't a deadly threat to anyone, was he? Seems like that was just asking for an innocent person to possibly be shot & killed?

Atlas Gunworks makes superb firearms. I've used their components in other 1911 and 2011 handguns in the past.
Which parts, might I ask? Do they make their own barrels?

if someone you care about wants to buy their first gun, don’t make it a Smith and Wesson.
For a semi, I agree. Their revolvers are still seemingly well-made with minimal issues, or at least I don't hear about them like I do their semi's.
As for their marketing efforts, I can say I don't blame them. The handgun world is highly, highly competitive. Imports are killing the US mfgrs in the semi-auto side of things. Sadly, too much of the buying public is swayed with slick advertising versus gun knowledge or closely examining the gun before buying it.
FN is a good example of minimal marketing, IMO. You rarely see their ads other than a couple of gun rags. Yet their guns are among the most accurate & well-made out there. Yet they still lag well behind almost every other major US gun mfgr in terms of sales. Agree or disagree, it's the truth.
While experienced gun owners use ads as a means of discovering a new model, I doubt we get swayed by the ad if the gun is merely average (or worse). The ad I loathe the most is the tacticool guy with the wrap around shades who is "guarding" his wife in an urban setting. It tugs at the emotions rather than showing how their gun performs better. And isn't performance the entire reason we buy a specific gun?
Maybe one day a gun guy will once again be running S&W & can unscrew their warranty repair department?

Shop owner is a buddy of mine, sent me this link. I gather he ran into them at this year's SHOT show. He's ordered one for himself & several for his shop & GB.
I have a Nighthawk (bought used), several Les Baers, a couple of STI's & had a Ed Brown before it got stolen. So I know & love a NICE 1911. He's telling me these guys are 2X better than Nighthawk or anyone else you can name.
Their build style is similar to the SVI/Infinity builds but I can't remember what to call it. Sectional? Component? The grip & dust cover are two separate sections, whereas most 1911s are one solid piece. I guess it's a good thing to do since the top, top upper tier guys are doing it.
They give a LOT of options when ordering a gun too. You can get a slide-lock version or not (race gun version). You can get a sub-3lb trigger, which is unheard of these days, IMO. I didn't look, but I would imagine the usual suspects apply when it comes to calibers. They sell parts as well, so one can do some serious upgrading on something you already have now.
I guess when I find a bag of $$$$ a drug dealer has tossed out his car window when the cops were chasing him, I'll buy one. Their prices start at $5200.
I'd be interested to hear from Ken Mays about these, if he's played with one before?
Oh, yes. Their web site: Atlas Guns

You need two things for a home range: backstop & noise abatement.
Backstop can easily be done by backing your range up against a hill/mountain. This will easily eat up any off-target rds that might slide off target.
Noise is a mixed bag. If you shoot suppressors, that will take care of that. Otherwise you're gonna need distance/acreage. I would imagine 12-15 acres at a minimum for noise in order to be a good neighbor. Hopefully your neighbor(s) won't be yankee gun-haters. This is easily found in the Chatt/Knoxville areas.
West TN is much, much flatter. So the acreage will need to be doubled, IMO.
Since you're a work-at-home guy, this allows a lot more options for property. I'm not a cable guy, but I would imagine any property close to a major highway (not interstate, highway) would have easy access to cable internet? This is where a realtor will help a lot.
The lesser costly land will be found in the triangle between Chattanooga, Knoxville & Cookeville, IMO. Lost of rural areas, lotsa farms & so forth. Plenty of hills for backstops, IOW.
The closer you get to Middle TN, the more expensive it's going to get until you get south of Columbia, TN. The counties bordering Alabama will be less costly, IOW.
You don't mention kids, jobs for the wife, recreation desires, etc. Fill out some of those details & we can probably help you out a little better?

Don't be too modest as I value your opinions on 1911s very highly. You've always been honest in your opinions & are almost always correct on them, IMO.
It surprises me just tiny bit that you've not shot one yet. I also didn't know they've been around since 2009.
Thanks for chiming in.
