I still firmly believe that the vast majority of Police officers all over this country are good people. Its only the bad ones you hear about.

No argument there. But the problem as *I* see it is the good ones keep covering for the bad ones time & time again. No one else does that to the extent that I know. Certainly not at any job I've worked at. If someone was drunk on the job, he got mentioned to a supervisor. If someone was a thief or did crappy work, it got mentioned. But cops don't do that. And that needs to change, IMO.

I read headline this past week that stated ethanol is worse for the environment than gasoline with higher carbon emissions. I didn't read it so can't comment.

I know ethanol is hell on small engines & doesn't do vehicle engines any good either. I refuse to use it & pay extra for alcohol-free gas.

Thanks to the farmer lobby in the mid-west, the ethanol requirement will almost certainly never go away, IMO. The tree huggers pile on that too, so there's extra weight to fight off.

I personally think that every Citizen should be allowed to attend the POST training, figure a reasonable cost and let me go.  My tax dollars pay for everyone else that gets to attend, why not me?  Graduate the class, carry everywhere.

I can hear the screams now were this proposed in the Assembly.  😆

Never forget the "Sheriff for Life" bill passed by the TN Legislature.  The Sheriff is the Chief Constitutional officer elected in each County and until the 90s was elected first and then required to attend POST Certification school.  The Sheriff's Association strong armed the GA into granting the requirement that ONLY POST certified individuals can seek that office, hence the Sheriff for Life status we now enjoy in TN.

I thought one could be a sheriff but had to gain certification within so many days of being elected? Or am I wrong on that?

I think it's a good idea for a sheriff to be POST qualified, IMO. I remember when I was little (I'm 63) & hearing older folks talk about rural sheriffs being barely able to sign their name, much less read a warrant. They got elected via political machines & not ability. Thankfully that's changed a great deal in almost everywhere.

LE is a job that I sure wouldn't want to take on, but I am eternally grateful for the GOOD men and women who choose to do it.

As we all are. I have several friends whom are or were cops. I thought the world of Buford Tune of Nashville. But I despise the whole "blue wall of silence" of cops whom cover for those whom they KNOW should not be cops or even security guards for that matter. The whole "no-knock" warrant thing is completely out of control & multiple Metro cops were just up for disciplinary action for one. One or two got fired over it, IIRC?

The "asset forfeiture" thing over carrying cash is another perfect example of "theft by badge". Yes, I realize the various legislatures passed the law on that. But cops seizing people's cash & requiring them to spend $$$$ on a lawyer, go to court just to get their OWN $$$ back is horse manure.

If cops would police their selves & get rid of the ones they KNOW are bad cops, there may not be all those civilian review boards, IMO.

So here is the part where I get banned:   "Would  be willing to get more training and further vetting for the privilege of carrying in the aforementioned prohibited areas."

I don't necessarily disagree with that, BUT! I think there should be a few exceptions for that requirement, IMO. Someone with mil background, perhaps certain MOS'? Someone whom has had a permit for over 10 years with no FUBARs? Those sorts of things. I don't think extra training should be mandated upon those whom already have their permits & may not want to add the additional areas of carry?

As one whom has worked the inspection station at a gun range, NEVER underestimate the stupidity of the general public! Cops aren't generally any better either, IMO. They're not "gun guys". There's multiple cases where a cop drew their weapon, thinking it was a taser (their words, not mine) & fired it. A cop up in MN just was found guilty on that very thing. So training is a good thing, even among experienced shooters. That's why I like shooting matches & watching the "good" shooters, I always learn something at every match.

But as we keep writing, it'll never get out of committee, IMO.

This was ran on local news several weeks back. My take (since we are in hate cop mode in the US ) is the ability to place more scrutiny and more accountability on a permit holder when a gun related incident occurs. Under those conditions it should pass with flying colors as its a bigger bullseye on believers in 2A.

Given the amount of stories with no-knock raids on the WRONG addresses (often resulting in death), falsifying evidence & lying on the witness stand, videos of being complete assholes on traffic stops, I think we can at least acknowledge that the old days of Officer Friendly has long been buried, at least in the urban areas. There's just way, way too many cops who took the job for ego, power trip & lack of skills to do anything else, IMO. I know some personally & I wouldn't hire them to sweep my driveway, much less be a cop, sadly.

But this bill has no chance of going anywhere, IMO. It's political posturing for his constituents & not much else, IMO.

We're preparing to move out of crazy Oregon to oh, so perfect for us TN. Riding there is one of the things I so look forward to. I have a 2001 Harley Fatboy and a 1986 Harley FXRC. The latter is a beauty I inherited from my dad. Lots of sentimental value, plus I like old school (my daily driver is a nice 66 mustang). I'm thinking about selling the Fatboy before we move and eventually get a touring bike for exploring TN and so that my wife will want to ride with me more.

Depending on which part of TN you're in, the riding can vary greatly. Lots of rural areas to ride in, certainly. But from (say) the Cookeville/Manchester area to the eastern TN/NC border is where the best riding is. Options of riding in the valleys for the flatter roads to taking to the mountains for the twisties (Ducati/BMW!), there's plenty for everyone, IMO. Dealer support is good too, especially in Chattanooga.

My advice is to avoid the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area like the plague. Bumper-to-bumper traffic almost all the time. Ride the Dragon once just to say you did it & then avoid that one too. Lots better options out there with minimal traffic.

I'm down in the SE TN corner, where we do all the kayaking & rafting. Perfect motorcycle riding territory too. Let me know if you need help on anything?

I'm a little behind on my reading but I just finished an article from a couple of months ago in MotorTrend where they took a couple of Rivian R1Ts coast to coast on the Trans America Trail. If they can take them all the way across the country off-road and still find enough charging spots, I think an EV will suffice for most other trips. Sure it will take a little more planning of charging stops than driving 'til the fuel light comes on and stopping at the next exit, but within a few more years even that extra planning will be a thing of the past. It kind of already is with apps like Tesla's trip planner.

I haven't read the story so I can't comment on the specifics of their trip. But there is no telling how much planning HAD to go into this trip in order to meet their charging needs.

I also ponder when one of these breaks (which all vehicles do from time to time), how easily Jim Bob's Garage is going to be able to fix it? I have no worries about my Nissan Frontier getting parts or repairs, OTOH.

Battery replacement cost is sky high these days as well, costing $5-6K from what I've read. Nor are the old batteries able to be recycled, they simply store them. Doesn't sound like a viable plan from my perspective.

I don't see how our 2nd Amendment rights can over rule a property owner's rights. Schools, government buildings and such, yes. But if a private property  owner chooses to post their property, No. Their house, they make the rules.

Frankly, I don't see any way in hell this will pass.

What about when private businesses had signs saying "whites only"? Was that right or wrong? Their rules, right?

If you open to the public, you get/have to serve the ENTIRE public, IMO. Maybe I don't want people with purple hair? I still have to serve them. Maybe I don't like the Irish like they did in the 1800s? I still have to serve them.

But I agree this bill will pass when they serve ice cream in hell.

I’ll refrain from commenting on the gun show silver-tongued devil talk. 😀

Well, I did lead all sales staff in total guns sold on any given weekend.   😉

But seriously, if a gun sits on a table for weeks/months/years at an inflated price, what's it worth then? No one buys it, so it's not worth that price, IMO.

  11. Were you all going to have a handgun refinished, where would you send it? I'm thinking some sort of Np3-type of finish. Most likely the slide only as the frame is polymer. The gun may be a H&K USP that has the "rugged" look to it. LOL!

@ken_mays, please pick up the white courtesy phone.  😎

  12. I think it's pretty much as you've said. It doesn't allow for Gomer's famous "Citizen's arrest! Citizen's arrest!" for permit holders.

Gun grabbers are all blathering about guns being stolen from cars but they're silent when I point out the owners HAVE to leave them there because they can't take them in. Crickets from them.

I have mixed feelings on this bill. I think it should be cleaned up & tightened up a bit, IMO.

I ride a BMW R1200RT these days (among others). It has heated grips, a heated seat, an electrically adjustable windscreen, and has great weather protection.  And I no longer commute so I don't need to ice up my beard anymore.

What year? Mine is a 2016. LOVE this thing!!!!

you get a good picture of what kind of sucker I am for what I want

    I disagree.

We (I) would tell buyers all the time at gun shows, "A gun is worth only what someone will pay for it." Not Blue Book value, not sticker price value, not some seller's story about his granddaddy value.

You decided on the value for the gun & the seller agreed to that value. Nothing wrong with that & that's how it should work, IMO. Both the buyer & seller are happy, they both got what they wanted. Nothing to make fun of on that, IMO.

I once had a Postal Meter Carbine, FWIW, I don't know which was more "rare", them or your IBM?

Generally, if your bolt is locked back on an empty chamber, you've screwed up.  The match saver lets you fix that problem quickly.

    Ehhh, not absolutely screwed, IMO.

We would slap a fresh rd into the chamber & then slap the lift gate on the bottom which releases the bolt (which I'm sure you know). Then, if we needed to, slid in an additional extra rds into the mag tube. It's a lot faster than it sounds.

I had one match in Cleveland, TN where a clay got tossed into the air. It was my LAST target & I had an empty shottie. Everyone enjoyed a good laugh at my expense on that one.

On another match there, I fired my last rd on the last target, locking the bolt back for the "cease fire" command. Ironically, I did a (for me) super fast tactical reload of 5-6 rds shortly before. I didn't have a target count nor rd count. It just happened to work out perfectly for me that ONE time for me. Funny part was, everyone thought I'd done it on purpose. I kept quiet on that one!  😝

That maybe true but its still a form of holding the gun financially responsible instead of the shooter. My concern is that more of this will come since this did pay off.

Beretta beat them to it several years ago.

Seems a dazzling young urbanite removed a mag from one said Beretta, pointed it at his "friend" & pulled the trigger. Dazzling young urbanite did NOT clear the chamber after removing the mag & we all can guess what happened with the trigger pull.

Don't recall if it was a judge or jury trial, but Beretta was found guilty of negligence (or settled, can't remember) because they DIDN'T PROVIDE A WARNING IT WOULD FIRE WITHOUT THE MAG!

Yes, boys & girls, gun owners are TOO GD stupid to know to NOT pull the trigger on a loaded gun. They HAVE to be told by the mfgr to NOT do that. You can't make this stuff up.  🤪

Seems like S&W got sued over one of their AR's being used illegally as well? I don't recall the results of that one.

Aside from Ronnie Barrett, I don't recall a single gun mfgr having the balls to tell a plaintiff to go screw themselves over a lawsuit. Someone correct me if I'm wrong there?

The Justice Department that has taken legal action to prevent states from enforcing Federal immigration laws (that the Feds prefer to ignore)  now wants to compel states to enforce Federal gun laws.

Is the AG going to sue states that legalized recreational marijuana and make them enforce Federal drug laws?

Just another example of the Dems shameless hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy is the one thing that liberals can always be counted on as having, IMO.

I think the prevention of enforcing immigration laws by the states is an excellent rebuttal to that jackass Garland.
