  1. My first batch will be 40 grain V Max bought in bulk off Cabelas to generate some brass then I'll work up so differing loads. I'm still getting into reloading and don't have a chrony yet so data will be shoot and see. It will be interesting though. I just like the ability to shoot the AR platform in micro and cannon forms!
  2. All of mine are loaded for marine use.... If there is ever a day when needs be, they will all be lost in a tragic boating accident on Old Hickory. What I need now is some really big diameter PVC pipe. Remember when planting PVC to do it up and down, not length wise, less signature!
  3. :up:Assemble your own and get some "kewl" factor to boot. ETS here or OEF-vet over on ARFCOM just did a group buy of Sabre Lowers and had them engraved with the TN three star logo. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=38&t=271897 Great price at $152.00 The lower has a better finish than my RRAs. I have not put a LPK in it yet but will do so this weekend as I have a .204 Ruger upper that will deliver MONDAY ! ! ! Take a look. Upper is a RRA UTE (universal tactical entry) and the Sabre Lower. You can see the super fine black anodizing they use. The RRA is a bit more shiny than it normally appears as I used BreakFree to clean it last time.

Tip for anyone that does purchase a light railed pistol in the shorter barrel lengths. If your light extends beyond the crown at all, put some tape on top of the light so you don't powder burn the finish. Most of mine buffed out from the first time but it will change the look. The larger frames where your under the barrel it won't matter a bit. Also, for my money, don't bother with the Insight X2. I got the light/laser version for a very short lived purchase of a Para Light Hawg and it was total crap. The laser would not bore sight well and the light would go off after every shot. The battery compartment is plastic housed and not strong at all like the TLR-1 or 2. Save your money. It was small but small and non working is worthless. The pistol had issues as well. I owned it less than 30 days.
  5. I was going to say, this thread was about as heated as girl scout cookie sale from what I was reading. I was getting a little scared about all the apologies and "lets just all get along" posts when I hadn't seen anything harsh. If you haven't been in group discussion or some of the more "vocal" variant topics (try 6.8 vs 6.5 threads) over on ARFCOM, you won't know what I mean by this being tame. I have been to Franklin Gun shop, nice place, great inventory, nice folks. All I have ever bought there was ammo. I did have to sit in their parking lot for a half hour waiting for them to open but I just showed up, no reasearch and had forgotten their times. Thats on me. I also love Guns and Leather in Greenbrier, another great selection. I say we try and keep as many gun shops open as we can. Its nice to "hold" one before you buy it. Would have saved me 200 bucks as I bought a Para subcompact Light Hawg and couldn't stand the thing after it arrived. I lost 200 in the trade to get a Kimber. Continuing on now.
  6. You guys are killing me....I thought I had to go the the TEAM room on ARFCOM to get all this stuff. For any newbs, the guys previously posting on buying a complete factory rifle first are dead on! Get one from a reputable company (I have only RRA so can't talk about anyone elses stuff). After that you will have a base model to "build" your own. Unless your a machinist your not really building but "assemble" your own would be a better description. The only portion of an AR that is considered the weapon is the lower. The part with the serial number on it. Everything else for a standard AR can be shipped to your door step. There are tons of sources for the lower and after that its how much you want to turn the wrench or tap in roll pins. I like to assemble mine but don't want to mess with headspace and measuring of the chamber by putting that section of an upper together. Buy a complete upper from somewhere (again RRA has some of the best equipment for the blue collar guy to buy, but you will have to wait for it as everyone wants their stuff). Go to AR15.com and download the assembly instructions and go to town. The really cool part is after you have your first 5.56 togther you can just start ordering the upper assemblys and use your one lower to slap them on and go shooting. I have a .458 Socom (see pic of magazine in sig line) upper on its way from the developer, Marty Ter Weeme of Teppo Jutsu in Texas http://http://www.teppojutsu.com/. Big slamming 300 to 600 grain bullets from the same platform you were shooting your 55 grain screamers! You might also look at White Oak Arms http://http://www.whiteoakarmament.com/complete_uppers.htm for some fantastic uppers. Check out the .204 Ruger! Its just what ever you want to put together now adays. Lots of custom builders out there

Back on track Pistols fit everyone differently, cost, groups, how it feels in the hand. What you'll get from us is "our" experience but your doing the best thing, create your own experience. I will say this, make a collection as sometimes you need a gun that "fits" the situation. Personally, I like the Kimber line. Semi custom 1911s that look and shoot great. I have the Compact Stainless II as my primary carry, a Desert Warrior for open carrying down at my families farm (and the Kewl factor). Now your first post was referring to Taurus pistols. I have a PT 24/7 with rails that shoots lights out. It was a third of the cost of the Compact Kimber but shoots right with it, albeit in the .40 S&W. Not much to do with it as far as upgrades but when I feel I could be getting into wet or dirty situations where I don't want to "mess" up the Kimbers, the Taurus comes out to play. Its also the "accessible" one in my home. Check these out and get you a TLR-1 so you can blind and see em at night. Then keep collecting so you have choices. Your girlfriend has more than one pair of shoes....right!
  8. Thanks Frank from Elite Tactical Systems for alerting me to this site. Avid hunter and shooter, looking to get into 3 gun this year. Building variant caliber ARs has been my love of late. I can be found daily on 458socomforums.com or on ARFCOM as Rightwinger or RightwingerTN Looks like I have another forum to consume even more of my time Thanks for having me.
