  1. By the way, Virginia has permitless open carry. I've been in a hotel for the last couple months in Virginia Beach, and frequently carried. No undue comments , no one has attacked me to get my pistol (which, thinking about it, seems like a good way to win a Darwin), no one has told me to leave their business. Frankly, 90%+ just don't notice. No doubt this has been a statistical fluke, and tomorrow morning, I'll have a SWAT team take me down, unintentionally saving me from the 3 muggers who are planning to 'get my gat', and providing the waiting TV news team and half dozen state politicians with that one incident they've been waiting for in order to ban handgun ownership in the state...
  2. Open carry accomplishes 2 things - acclimatizes people to guns, and provides those who are curious about obtaining their own HCP, but needing information, with a point of contact (Hey, how d'ya get to carry a gun?) and with further incentive to go ahead and get their own. At one point automobiles were a rare and somewhat frightening sight on the public thoroughfares. At one point, seeing a womans' ankles, or seeing her smoke, was unheard of. At one point, seeing a black man in the 'wrong part of town' was cause for alarm. Use good judgement, don't be an ass, and "take not counsel of your fears".
  3. 3 inches high and left is pretty darn good, remember you are shooting lead balls... and these are usually a lot higher (the originals were zeroed for 75 yards)... if consistent, though, the easiest way to correct for windage is to file the rear sight notch - of course, you might want to go real easy with that....
  4. MIke, it is corrosive, berdan primed, brass...
  5. Nate, maybe its' because Harvey Korman just passed away...
  6. $20 here if it'll help... need contact info/address, though.
  7. Dotsun, a case (80 boxes, 15 rds/box, 1200rds total) is 299.95 Is it a 'real deal', and secondly, who's gonna shoot the thing that much?
  8. I'm not shooting these things! I got 'em as gifts, I guess.
  9. Well (he said, cheesily resurrecting an old thread) I bought a couple yesterday. 79.99, or 10 bucks off that price if you buy two, so of course I bought two. Two is enough, right? Arsenal refinished (they look brand new) M44's, with pouch, cleaning kit and sling. Bought some Prvi Partizan 7.62x54R to boot - reloadable brass cartridges, 15 to the box, 3.75 a box in quantity. I only bought 20 boxes, does anyone think I should go ahead and pick up a case (80 boxes)?
  10. He's dealing with child services, thank Heaven he didn't get a social worker that demanded he get rid of his firearms (its' happened) before he could take custody of his daughter. Get the trigger locks so the child 'services' nazis are happy. When you get your safe, you can lock 'em all in that w/out the locks. Congratulations, by the way, on getting your daughter home!
  11. Birthday gift, or just so she'll have something to shoot at the shoots? If it fits and she likes it, its' a deal. I'll charge off the difference to my good deeds/new shooter karma. By the way, last night bought a couple of arsenal refinished tomato stakes.. Moisin Nagant M44's, I mean. 69 each, with the slings, cleaning gear, pouches and whatnot. Prvi P ammo was 4 bucks a box, so bought 20 boxes. Gonna give 'em away, I suspect. I'm not in Kingsport, either - in Norfolk... Jersey next, yay me Enough thread hijack, lets' get back to the burning questions of which pistol is next on XD's list, and who else has gotten smoke in their eyes... Gunslinger, XD's '51 was a closeout at the possibles shop - pretty hard to beat for the money.
  12. Aww heck. I was gonna ask 135 for mine - I paid 165 for it. If she likes it, will take... 90? Has a nice scope and sling, wood stock, 2 10 rd mags and manual.
  13. Mike, before you go blowing the gun fund, what sort of rifle? I bought a 22 semi a while back because it was in very nice condition, with sling and scope. I'm in a position to offer you a deal on it...
  14. Well, Governer, we all know of your preference for the Remington. Where's your secretary, is what I want to know.
  15. XD, the one Angel likes is the 1862 Police (fluted cylinder, round barrel) Uberti, which I got from the possibles shop. The other one I brought out was the 1861 Navy, Pietta made. Both in .36 caliber. If you lean toward .44 then the 1860 Army is the way to go. Looks like Possibles is out of the 62's, but this guy http://www.redbearhunting.com/shopping.asp?SubCategoryID=240 has them in 2 barrel lengths and is $20 cheaper.
  16. The civil war was the beginning of the end for states rights, FDR finished the concept off. A complete inversion of the system the founders built. They didn't want a strong central government, because it would inevitably lead to incremental loss of liberties.
  17. Possibles shop also has Ubertis at decent prices.
  18. XD, Cabelas sells both Pietta and Uberti. I saw yours, and I'm a bit confused - it looked darn nice to me!
  19. I'd order some, Mike, but I won't be home again until mid July. We are out of the yards in a week, no more weekends for me.
  20. Found an interesting site... cheapest balls I've seen, and great price on lubricated wads. Also does custom finishes on BP revolvers, prices seem pretty good.... http://www.bpstuffllc.com/capandballrevolvers.htm
  21. No seatbelts in my Plymouth, so I wear seatbelts most of the time. I despise the govment telling me I must, and using it to generate revenue.
  22. XD, Angel, we enjoyed your visit. You could'a left Bailey with us, she's got a good headstart on wrapping folks around her little finger. XD, next time you and Dakota get up our way, I hope the wimmenfolks will let you go camping. TDR, the only cheaper revolver I know of is the brass frame from Cabela. For the extra 30 bucks, the steel frame Pietta (like XD's) is probably worth it. I'd avoid CVA in preference to Pietta. Ubertis used to be much better fit and finish, but judging from XD's, not so much, anymore. I will note that Ubertis are closer to the original dimensions, are more historically accurate, and don't have the slightly annoying stampings on the side of the barrel - Black Powder Only, Pietta, etc. Also if you want a small frame ('62's, for example) you need to buy Uberti. For a '51, though, Pietta will be more than fine - and XD's was very nice. I doubt that a Uberti '51 is really worth the extra 60 bucks you're likely to pay.
  23. Oh yeah. I think I now have 3 or 4 of them. Great stoves. I don't know if Sue will let me e-bay it, as I did not have a tourist before, but if I do I'm gonna owe Mars some more money.
  24. Well, I think XD and family had fun. That '51 he got has really pretty case coloring - prettier than my ubertis.
